When we have company, they eat what we eat, so I can't use that as an excuse for poor eating. Our meals are nutritious, tasty, healthy. If my kids eat this way without complaint, I don't feel a need to apologize for cooking tasty and healthy meals for my guests.

Your daughter is lucky to have your influence. If mine lived with me it would be different..lol. But I suppose on the flip side of things, they do sleep late. And I'm an early bird so I get a couple of hours of quiet time in the house before they get up. I do love having them but this one issue is a big one for me. Am I old school? Is this how most young families do it now? Makes me wonder...

My grandson, who came first, didn't have much of a bedtime until he was getting ready to start to school. But by the time his sister came along, his mom and I were much smarter. She's 3 and goes to bed between 8:00 and 8:30 (we aim for 8:00), and his bedtime is 9:00. This summer, I've tried to keep them on the same schedule, so we don't have to regroup for school. Good thing, too, since school starts in about 4 weeks, and I don't have to retrain.

You're awesome, Lily! I love letting my grandchildren get so totally filthy their parents wouldn't recognize them..lol. I have them both now, just tucked the older one (6) into bed. I always let him stay up later so we can have some time together. We had 4 years of alone time until the baby sister came and I miss it. My biggest complaint with how these kids are being raised is they don't have a bedtime! I can't imagine any mother of small kids not wanting to have a couple of hours to herself at night..lol. I put my granddaugter in at 8 and she's still awake now! And she's only 2! Some weekends it's enough to make me really ambivalent about them coming because I'm tired at night and want them in bed by 9 at the latest. They do go, but they can lay there awake for a couple of hours before falling asleep. It's nuts!

We actually had a very good time I sat them down with a movie. then out side where they ran in the sprinklers I put it in a place with no grass so it became a giant mud pit I let them paint themselves and through it at each other with only a small set of rules no throughing it at me or in the hair or faces. I got great picks. when they were done with that I lined them up and hosed them off. I like that part the best. then it was clean cloths. Next activity was small paper plates glue and dried food for frig art masterpieces. then there best part same size plates frosting for glue candy for art supplies eatable art. By then it was time for the balloon butt busting contest they got to pick there prises in order of # of balloons busted. Next piazza presents and birthday cake. my next best part they all went home except for the 11 year old and two teens. next day came the teen, birds and bees and stds talk. what a weekend

I am quite sure the exercise made up for any food choices you made over the week end. Bless you for taking on such a task.

SuperGram!!!!! I know I about keel over from exhaustion when I get my 2 grandsons. But it is so worth it. I am in NY and they are in CA... I will be going out there in 2 weeks and will have baby duty all night (she is a month old) and then the boys (almost 3 and just 4) all day. Mom and Dad are exhausted and expect me to pick up the slack!!! But even though I know I am going to come home EXHAUSTED, I know I will also come home and miss them. So I will have 18 days to spoil them ROTTEN.... and then leave them to mom and dad!!

Wow! 7 at one time! I have 5 and can't even imagine having all of them at one time. Don't even beat yourself up for getting off track. I'd say you did good to retain your sanity! Good for you for being a great grandma and for acknowledging and moving forward.

My hat's off to you. emoticon I only had my 3 today. The boys started to grumble as soon as the oldest came in the door. I had to sit them on the couch until I fixed breakfast and 15 min. afterwards. The baby is sick, she has a head cold and pink eye, so the doctor says. I'm ready to pull my hair out. emoticon or better yet have a stiff drink even though I don't drink emoticon
