Hi guys, thank you for your support. I am feeling much better about things and gradually feeling like I'm getting a grip and getting back on track.I think the nice weather has really helped with that!!

Hi mary,
The 5 msmall meal a day option does sound quite good!
Unfortunately I'm on a music course in bournemouth when it's pontefract races, and I'm going to a wedding en-route,so managed to triple book myself!!
We all should try to meet up this year though!!

Hi Liz
I've been in a similar place recently so decided to have a nutritian session with my gym instructor. He's pointed out that I'm eating quite a high carb level so I should reduce that - total calories in v cals out and all that, but as I'm having around 200 grams of carbs a day, I'm not using my fat reserves when working out.
It's taking some getting used to, but eating 5 small meals a day seems to suit me. I've hidden the scales (well hubby has cause we've been replacing our bathroom) so I'm not obsessing over it. I too am a stone heavier than I was when I came back from holiday last June, although everyone says I look the same / thinner than last year, I don't see it,......

Are you going to do the Pontefract race for life with Val and I?

Hi Liz,
yeah a steady jog sounds good, though I am very slow and only normally do it on the treadmill at home so it will make a big change for me. and would be good to meet up. Just send me a spark mail once you are ready and we will sort it. x

Thanks guys,
You have all offered me some great advice!!!
I already have photos on the fridge but I think I am going to change them and have heavy ones one side and photos of me at my lightest on the other. I am used to seeing them now so I do suppose they blend into the background.
I am following Sainsbury's diets at the moment. The meals are really tasty, but when I say follow, I mean that loosely, and often eat more food than suggested. So I am going to stick to that more closely in the week, and then have 2 days when I can treat myself / be a bit more relaxed if I feel like it.
I have also reduced my weight loss goal to show baby steps rather than my overall goal. Already it feels more achieveable!! I have avoided weighin myself recently and that has made me less accountable for eating those extra calories so I think I need to get those back out on a weekly basis!

Val I am starting my new job next week and based at Castleford (next to ASDA) so as the weather gets better then we could meet at the race course and do a bit of jogging?
I'm hoping that the new job will help as I get quite hungry working from home and don't move around as much, I just need to make healthy lunch choices.
Fiona it'd be great to meet up in York. I've not been for a while and still think we should all arrange a meet up, perhaps a picnic, especially for those who can't do Race for Life.

Thank you again! Just writing about it helps.

Hi Liz

Sorry I'm late with my reply to your post. As Val said, don't give up and don't get stressed with trying to do everything at once. I am now only 4lb lighter than the heaviest I have ever been so I can't empathise with how you feel and what you are going through *but* my husband has lost over a stone and a half and still has a way to go. With my husband we usually try to be exceedingly good for 4 days of the week and then don't track for 3 days as he finds it easy to stay on track when he is working (Monday to Thursday) but not at the weekends when he isn't. We have also stopped eating lunch at the computer (we both work from home sometimes) so we have to take a proper lunch break.

I often get into a rut and, since Christmas put on 7lbs and I only lost about 8 or 9lbs in the whole of last year! I need to get out of my rut and am now slowly getting in to the mind-set where I am ready to do that. However, as you will know from the "challenges" so far this year, I am trying to build healthy habits again rather than do challenges as I tend to give up half way through the month or do 3 weeks and then take a month off!

Would it help if you hid the scales for a month? Change your weight loss goal to either lose just 1lb in the month or even maintain? This would make your calorie limit higher and you may find that you could stay in that if you know you are allowed to have the treats. Finally, set small goals and make goals away from weight loss and food.

I know you sometimes come up to York and if you ever want to meet up for a coffee and a chat, let me know.

Fi x

AHHHG! DON'T DO IT!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Maybe you need a change? are you a bit stuck in a rut with food and work outs? maybe doing the same kind of thing when you need to get back on the wagon?
I fell off last summer and put a stone on, I couldn't get back on! I had to rethink and reset goals and change the way I went for it. I just changed it all again this week, if I get doing the same things and aiming for targets I tend to lose focus and enthusiasm.

I worked with a friend once, she was only about as tall as me (4' 10") and she was so petite and slim and fit for her age! She left where I work, then I saw her a while later and didn't recognise her, she had ballooned, and her face was so chubby! I found out that she had just lost 6st when I first met her, and had kept it off while she was working, but in the couple of years between seeing her last, she had gained 7st. It was good to see her again, but so sad! she had wanted to travel and had all these plans, but couldn't do it any more, no energy and couldn't manage all the walking involved.

Why not just do what we always suggest and go baby stepping? I would look at what is doing the most damage and target that first. (for me it was only having 2 slices of bread and butter a day, and drinking water in place of coffee at work) no logging, no gym, no pressure! just a gentle bit of control to steer you back towards the path!

You live close enough to me, we could meet up for a mutual butt kicking over a coffee if you want!?

PLEEEZE hang in there!!

Post pictures on your fridge. Pics of you at the lower weight on one side, and pics of the heavier you on the other side. In the middle, put pics of fruits and veggies cut from magazines. Tell yourself "I can do this", go to bed earlier so you don't snack, eat breakfast every day, and be careful what you drink...ohhhh those liquid calories!

Hi all,
So I have (in the past) lost 6 stones, I have slowly gained just over a stone and I can't seem to get a grip, control my portions, and stick to a calorie limit for the day.
I am petrified of becomming a size 20 again. I am also scared of getting trapped in the old cycle I used to be in, which consisted of getting down for feeling big, eating to compensate, getting bigger, eating more etc etc!!!
Crazy I know as I have done it before but does anyone have any tips which might kick my ass back into gear?!
Thanks
Liz
