True dat, Irish..but then the far right don't want to spend money on feeding the poor, taking care of the elderly, educating the young..so instead they pontificate endlessly about superficial non essentials.

Yeah, but have you noticed that the Far Right is absolutely fixated on the fluff?

"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)

"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)

I'm the same a BRIDIE5. Learned it the old way, then switched to the "new" way. Don't care either way. The pledge of allegiance was started by a FLAG COMPANY for God's sake! Santa Claus was started by Coke! Let's talk about feeding the poor! educating the young, healing the sick! The rest is fluff.

If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence it's probably astro turf.

I'm the same as ALFBUNDY in that I have been saying it for all of my life...however, I don't think I would actually miss it because I know that there are a lot of people that find it offensive...

It was part of "The Pledge" when I learned it; so after all these years, I just automatically say "UNDER GOD", along with the rest of the words.
I am NOT a person who "likes" CHANGE, so I would miss it.

My patriotism has nothing to do with my religion. That is the way I learned it and I never gave it a second thought.

It's a non-issue for me too. I was 10 yo when they stuck it in the Pledge..stumbled the first few times getting used to it, now don't really care one way or another. Those that get all discombobulated over trivia have too much time on their hands IMHO. We have much bigger fish to fry in this country.

I don't have a problem with it, but I would not miss it. There's no special place in my conception of God for any particular country.

so the cold war era conservatist (McCarty and the likes) had under God added into the pledge of allegiance. I don't have a problem with it and I don't have a problem with those who find it offensive either, I'm okay with myself saying it.

What's your opinion on this?
