I work in a small rural school district and believe it or not most of my colleagues are conservative and live in the same community they teach in and yes, it's 95% white; middle to lower upper working poor and the woman that said it is a teacher's aid which doesn't really mean anything except that she doesn't get paid as much because she doesn't have a teaching certificate but any way, there are a few of us liberals and though I am NOT ashamed of what I stand for I have learned to be somewhat muted because I gotta work with these folks and it seems that when I say something positive about the President (mind you NOT negative comments against conservative politicians or talking heads) I get hammered just as if I personally insulted them.
We have one woman (Marcia) who grew up with family involved in the ALF-CIO unions of the early 70's and she doesn't put up with any crap and her presence is so big wherever she goes no one argues with her because you can and will look stupid by the time she's done with you and made one lady cry because she voted conservative when in her past she had to rely on gov't ass't for food and other public programs. Well Marcia had left the lounge just for a minute when my colleague uttered that statement, I kept quiet and so did the her fellow conservatives in the room and when Marcia walked back in and asked why we were all quiet........lol, you could cut the tension with a knife. No one said a word and then a different topic came up.
I know I need to be more vocal about what I believe in especially here in Pennsylvania where this Gov Corbett is about to put our entire pension on the open market and cost the ta payers millions in lost revenue but at my work I tread lightly, it's bad enough I am Hispanic in an all white community soooooooo.......................
But hey, I LOVE it here, I love the kids!
