I had two people show up at my door one day and tell me "The world will end in your lifetime." I told them "MY world will end in my lifetime. How would I act any differently if I knew it would end tomorrow?"
I try not to blame God for what happens in the world. He is mysterious to me. I think it belittles him to associate him with the outcome of a football game.
Do I dare disturb the universe?
We must risk delight.

Glad to hear that. We usually agree on things and still do.

Good Lord, no! It's complete idiocy.
"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."
"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)
"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)
