Okay, here is what I do sometimes. There are certain e-mails that just lend themselves to this. You can actually change only 2 or three words in some and turn them in to a liberal message and send them back to them. I replace the false statements with facts. This is good for those who won't take you off their list even though you have asked them to both politely and not so politely. I usually start off with please don't send me political e-mails and go from there. On this response you can even say..."This is the way I heard it..." or something like that because you are sending them back the facts to replace the false statements.

One particular one was about the publicans, but referred to them as Democrats or liberals (can't rmember which). I just changed the word publicans to the obvious...Republicans and the message made a lot more sense. Then sent it back to the person who sent it to me.

It was actually from a Democrat, forwarding what her sister had sent her, so she sent it back to her sister altered to make the message read true. It went out to irritate a great many republicans I am sure, but then they should stop lying and tell the truth. This has worked with great consistency. emoticon

"Just wondering....Would any of you send overtly liberal musings to a conservative relative/friend?"

Not out of nowhere ... tho I've been very tempted. I have responded to some right wing crap tho, occasionally hitting "reply all" on the ones with multiple recipients, just to embarrass the hell out of the person. That usually stops them from sending me any more stuff. LOL ... my bad ... & getting worse with age!

Trace, what's ldk? or is that idk? I don't know?

Cinderelic's response is PERFECT... but it will prolly get gone... wingbutts tend to be comment deleters, I've noticed...

Like I care...

My question, Irish, is that if this person is so goofy in their views, are they REALLY a Sparkfriend?

Idk... I've been clearing the debris out of my life, too... I don't miss people like that when they go away...

I suspect this person didn't dig deeply enough into my Sparkpage to see that I belong to both this team and the Obama 2012 team, and that he wouldn't have made me a Sparkfriend if he had.

I don't comment either..but sometimes it's cuz I'm biting my tongue bloody to keep from it! This is what bothers me the most..those that inundate me with racism, right wing agendas, their form of Christianity, etc are doing so without provocation or invitation. I do NOT do that to them. I talk politics only here, or if somebody specifically asks me about my leanings, unless I am actively assisting in a campaign. Even then, I keep it to the areas I am supposed to cover. Other than that? I do not discuss politics and religion at all. If someone has never been in my home or asked me, they could know me five years and not know my spiritual beliefs. Those matter to me and my family, but are personal.

It depends....

I have sent political stuff (mainly jokes) to friends that I KNOW have the same the understanding as I do but otherwise, I wouldn't...nor do I comment on some of my friends FB status's where they are professing their love of Beck/Palin...

Actually Penny, I don't forward political or religious e mails regardless of whether they be from Left or Right, Tea party, GOP or Dem, Christian, Buddhist, Wiccan, Muslim, or in favor of the Church of the Rolling Green. It's tacky.

Yes, there are a quite a few of us who believe in God and the ACLU (and other Leftist organizations). You can gently remind your friend of that fact.

LadyIrish, that is a tough one. I think your simple comment about God & the ACLU would be perfect. When I was active here in the past, I remember someone commenting on my page that they had never heard of the "Christian Left" which is how I described myself. Good, I was happy to inform her that yes, we do exist. You don't get into heaven by voting Republican, lol!

Bridie, that is so sad about your sister. I bet I know where she gets her "news".

Cinderrelic, your e-mail response is awesome!

I think what you suggested about loving God and supporting the ACLU is good. I usually handle people who send me these usually very good e-mails to a point that veer off into politics, bigotry, and hatred with a note that says. "As a Christian I cannot forward this kind of e-mail as it is made up of false statements and half truths. Please remove me from your political agenda list. However, I would love to stay on your friends list for material that is spiritually uplifting, humorous without malicious commentary berating something or someone, or informative about non-political agendas. Prayerfully," and sign my name.

I find myself in the same boat, BRIDIE5 -- not with my brother, but with my cousins remaining in this area ... it's me who's closing the door on them in this case, because I just can't stomach the ignorance anymore.

Irish, I'd post the comment as you stated here ... (actually, I'd be more likely to really give 'em hell) ... aye me emoticon

I love your line about it being perfectly possible to love God AND to support the ACLU! Possible? heck..it's mandatory!

I don't know what to tell you. People like this usually don't hear you..they are too full of their own ego and agenda. In the sad saga of the deterioration of my relationship with my sis, I learned that ignoring things like this with her just encouraged buckets more of the same. Then I flat asked that we leave politics and religion out of our up to then loving and close relationship. She couldn't do that..even tho I never brought the subjects up to her even once. Later still, when she hadn't ceased, I reminded her of that fact, and of how personally offensive I found racist speech and attitudes, and religious bigotry. I also told her that while she had the right to her opinions, I had the right to have my personal wishes respected. She was careful for awhile. The last time I spoke to her was months ago..as I gently hung up the phone on yet another loudly offensive racist rant against Middle Easterners, Hispanics and black Americans. If she screamed the N word once that day, she screamed it 20 times. We were not raised that way. I would never choose someone like that for a friend, and I could no longer be an audience. So it's with a light heart that I recognize that and move on these days.

One of my Sparkfriends left a comment on my page asking me to read his new blog entry, so I did. It involved the building of a giant cross somewhere, and a wish that "the atheists and the ACLU supporters" don't interfere, or turn from their evil ways, or something like that.

I'm at a bit of a loss. Do I post a comment gently reminding him that it's perfectly possible to love God AND support the ACLU at the same time (like me)? Do I leave a noncommittal "very nice?" Or do I just say nothing (which I've done so far)?
