morticiaadams I agree!
Luckily my husband is certified to teach at International Baccalaureate schools. If McSame wins we might head to Canada or Europe, how sad is that?

The hardest part for me was when everyone said how they had always been proud to be Americans and I thought about Selma, Little Rock, the little girls murdered at church, Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, etc. I am proud of how much we've changed, but I'm not proud of how this country treated some of its citizens. I lived through the 4 people being shot in Ohio while protesting Vietnam. It's easy to always be proud if you ignore what happens to other people. I personally had it easy. My dad always had a good job, I had nice clothes, etc. but doesn't it say "whatever you do to the least of these?"

I watched very little of the GOP convention. I finally broke down and watched Rudolph's, Palin's, and Mccain's speeches. I wasn't impressed.

With RG's speech I was mainly reminded that he is so yucky, totally repulsive. Sorry but I can't help it. He's strangely weird. I've always thought he was an over-hyped egomaniac. No offense to others but the mayor of our tiny town would have done the exact thing that he did during 9/11. What do you expect them to do - run off and hide while screaming, "Every man, woman, and child for himselves!!" ??? It doesn't take a lot of guts to run around town wearing a mask. Heck, I could have done it. The real heroes were the people who died in the World Trade Center and those who walked into the buildings to save them knowing they might never walk out again. I'm tired of Rudy putting himself on their level. I'm sick to death of this ugly man period. Besides, I can't believe anyone would vote for some creep who moved his wife out of the mayoral mansion to move his mistress in. But then McCain and he are of the same cloth in that area. Where I live we aren't really into whore mongers. I did think it was befitting of Rudolph that he made fun of Obama's service working for the poor and disadvantaged since I recall that one of Rudolph's big projects while in office was to arrest homeless people to rid New York of the riff-raff and make it a prettier place. You wouldn't want to help these dirty vermin - they don't vote. Rudolph is a scumbag.

Re Palin's speech. It's going to be real hard for me to listen to that shrill grating voice for months or years on end. Or look at those black eyes and almost black looking lips. She and Cindy look like over-made-up call girls. They both need a makeover. I was shocked when I saw Palin's sister who looked and acted normal. After Palin's speech I had even less respect for her than before. From it I deduced that Barracuda Sarah is heavy on balls and light on intellect.

re John Mccain's speech. Try as I might I had difficulty concentrating on McCain's speech. I kept thinking he reminded me of Walter Brennen in the Real McCoys. His mannerisms, his geezerness. The content was so sketchy that it dawned on me that the morons there must be voting for a personality and not an agenda. Or they were heavily medicated. If John had said that he was for baby genocide they would have all been waving their flags and hooping it up. I will give Mcain the last few minutes as I have seen him relate about his captivity in Vietnam before and it is quite moving. But in it this time he talked about missing everything about the U.S. but apparently he didn't miss his wife and children that much because he had no problems dumping them. I feel sorry for anyone who was a prisoner of war but I'm like one of the men he was imprisoned with and don't feel that being a victim qualifies him to be president.

Thank God the conventions are over and it's on to the the election. If McCain wins I'm seriously thinking of moving out of the country. I can't stand the thought of 4-8 more years of this bull crap.

Their little "prosperity" signs really bothered me, prosperity for who? Certainly not for me whose husband is a teacher, certainly not my mom who worked 30 years in a hospital laundry and cannot now afford her prescriptions so has to pick and choose which ones she can do without.
I actually did not finish watching her speech, it was so unmoving I did not feel it was necessary. It was like listening to my neighbor speak, and I don't find that reassuring. She spoke on no important issues, she threw snide remarks out like candy at a christmas parade.
The funny thing is that she and her family looked totally out of place onstage with Cindy LOL
She tossed us an energy rebate check the month of her nomination hmmmmmmm. She promised better pay here for teachers, hasn't happened.
There was a caller after her speech that claimed she knew Palin well and trusted her to do what she says she will. When asked how she knew her she said their boys were on the same soccer team LOL Way to base a political opinion yeah!
We aren't all morons here in Wasilla Alaska and there ARE Democrats here! I just WISH the press that is flocking in here would stop ME on the sidewalk LOL

alright now, you girls pull those claws back in. Gov Palin DOES TOO have family values. In her family it is a TRADITION to get knocked up and "have to get married". For all you know, it might even be a family tradition to keep pushing babies out, (even when you have important "worldly" stuff to do, like run for VP) so you can leave the infant care to your daughters (btw, have you ever seen the "daddy" carry the "5th" child?), so they can get in plenty of practice before they get knocked up. And why shouldn't she use her 17 yo daughter's pregnancy to get media attention? She is running for VP! That is, she has been told, an important job (and they're gonna tell her exactly what she's gotta do pretty soon now). In the meantime, she will continue to stir up stories about the 17 yo and it will get her the media attention so that America can "know" her; [[Jon Stewart had it right - After BillO’s Jamie Lynn Spears/Bristol Palin hypocrisy: “You see what happens with opinions on teen pregnancies is that they gestate over a period of months.” ]]

Gov Palin however, will not be giving any interviews of any sort for the next several weeks, so don't even think about asking about troopergate or who da mommybaby (or find out that Palin raised taxes as governor, supported the Bridge to Nowhere before she opposed it, pursued and received pork-barrel projects as mayor, served on Stevens' 527 board, tried to ban books at the local library and thinks the war in Iraq is “a task from God.”)

BTW, did ya'll notice that the "hot" RNC ticket to the "hot" party was thrown by TOM DELAY? Did ya'll notice that "balcony" seats above the convention floor were reserved for corporate big-wigs and lobbyists -- you know, so the owners could see their "little people" whipped into their fanatical support to vote against their own economic and civil liberties' well being? You know, the hard core repubs who support mcsame because he is one of them and not an "elite" like obama.

One more level of hypocrisy is when the right-wing pro-lifers picket for their 'cause' but turn a blind eye and deaf ear when babies mommies need formula and diaper money. Oh, and what about when those babies grow up, turn 18 and go to war, come back to the states as VETERANS and can't get adequate health care?

Yes. I read the conservatives calling us hypocrites for attacking Palin and her family. I'm not attacking her family or the daughter that is pregnant "out-of-wedlock" - I have no problem with that. I have a problem with Palin having done this to her family: putting her teenage daughter on the world stage like this. Palin is the one who does not believe in sex education because it should be handled by the family, who believes in the sanctity of the family, who believes in creationism, who doesn't believe in abortion. She's not done well in her own house - it happens. It happens even to the best of us. But her hypocrisy in it all is what is being avoided. The hypocrisy of the republicans who shout "no christian morals" at any discretion by any democrat... and accuse the democrats of smearing them on this. Leave it alone, they say. But now apparently the girl's boyfriend is joining them at the RNC tonight... good way to put a lid on it? did I miss a logic there?
Blah. I am so sick of this soap opera. My heart aches for the daughter.

I just can't relate to these people. John's father & grandfather were both Admirals in the Navy. I'm sure that position pays pretty well. John, not unlike GW was a privileged kid. I'm sorry but,I came from a family with 8 kids. We weren't rich by any means. My dad was a trucker & mom was a stay at home mom. It would have cost more to put the kids in daycare than to have her work. But, we were able to make it. We didn't have everything our hearts desired but, we had what we needed. You know, I think that Barrack Obama & Bill Clinton's upbringing were a lot more like mine than McCain's or 'Lil Bush!
How in the world when most of the people out there can relate to how I was brought up possibly eat up the crap the spin doctors of the Republican party throw at them. I am amazed when I go to work (blue collar job) how the people there eat that crap up.
If Hannity, O'Reilly or Limbaugh say it, it's like it came from the mouth of god himself!!! It makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on what country we're talking about, doesn't it? Seems many 'publicans are living in the state of Denial. Oh, wait....De- Nile is De- river in De- Egypt, so I guess the USA is on it's way to becoming BFE? (chuckle) Sorry, always though this country was supposed to be a bit more cosmopolitan than that. Never thought I'd see any of the major parties conduct themselves in a manner so obviously un-American, as the GOP has.

OK, we all agree we don't like Cindy doll and HER money which we know she worked hard for. But do any of you agree that the party has a bit of a problem to explain their Country First motto? I cannot find a way that party can work with that.

The money is Cindy's. And massive amounts of it. That's why Johnny Boy agreed to marry her before he was even divorced.
You'd think with all that money she would do something about that poorly bleached hair. Just goes to show you $$ doesn't buy class.

P.S. Yes, I know that was bad and a cheap shot but I'm not in a very charitable mood today.

Normally I watch all of both political conventions but this year I have to admit that I have skilled the GOP one. How are the speeches?

I thought Hillary Clinton gave an excellent speech and Bill Clinton's was even better, but to me Joe Biden hit it out of the ball park. Barack was consistently good as he always is.

Actually, it's Cindy that has all the money. Her daddy left it to her. They own a major beer company. John married her for her money and because she was a beauty queen. He fooled around with her while he was still married to his first wife, even applying for a marriage lisence six months before his divorce was final!

Well, as I see it the Repubs have a rather tricky task. They are proclaiming Country First, but they are built on the philosophy that everyone can pull him/herself up by the boot straps (no matter they don't have boots) and that they SHOULD do it themselves.

After all, they proclaim, this is AMERICA. The land of opportunity where you can become anything you want and make all the money you want starting at a minimum wage that can't keep you alive but forget that, and you shouldn't be burdened by having to give any money or taxes to social programs or to the poor. The churches can do that. Me, says Cindy... I EARNED this money (by marrying a rich man with, um, I don't know how many houses - and if I want to wear three strings of pearls and a huge hanking diamond ring, it's my right.

If you don't have them, then honey you get off your butt and stop taking welfare checks and make something of yourself. Then you too can buy diamonds and pearls. Hopefully the schools will be good enough to educate your children, but maybe you'd better earn more money while you're at it so you can send them to private schools. Then we don't have to invest in our schools either.

Now - Country First... where does that fit in? I'm confused.

Well first of all there was plenty of salmon with lemon butter sauce and very expensive white wine being served there. Them peeps sure are rich LOL

And did you SEE/HEAR that moronic man they interviewed after the speeches? He said he did not see why so many events were getting canceled just because a few folks were getting rained on (Gustav) and that he thought it was unfair. I wanted to poke him in the mug for real!
I knew they'd play that ticket too. "Welllll we did not get as much EXPOSURE due to this &^%#$@^% storm, we feel ripped off as a party." (grimace)
Seeing McCain's wife tonight onstage in that stupid gold/yellow laser dress with her three strings of pearls and BLAZING diamond broach trying to tell me how much she cares for ME? I'm sorry, could she have LOOKED any richer? These people are so strategically stupid.

I noticed that too!! The Repug convention is filled with old, white, BORING people!! Remember all the constumes and silliness in Denver? An oddity for the R's.

I'm old and I'm white and I'm an ex-flower child but I'm not a Republican. And I'm only boring sometimes.

OH, don't give up on us yet - since I'm in that generation, too! I haven't seen any statistics, but I have a very hard time believing - without seeing it - that the hippies and instruments of change from "back then" are voting for the Repugs. None that I know are!!

What's extra depressing aobut the fact that so many Republicans are white, middle-aged people is that back in the day we were going to make the world a better place. As a white, middle-aged person, I'm pretty disappointed in my generation.

Let's see... which would I rather have?
1. Wonder bread with baloney and mayo and iceberg
or
2. a good healthy whole kernel, ecologically and enrivonmentally grown bread with all varieties of meat (or not) and dressings and lettuces to choose from...

HMMMMMMM. Not a tough one!!! I'll take the diversely delicious tastes that open my taste buds and make them want more of this good healthy food for the soul! emoticon

(I had enough of wonder bread and baloney growing up. Wonder bread and baloney just make you fat and lazy and indifferent to LIFE and CHANGE and NEW BEGINNINGS)

There are many differences in the two major political parties. Last week we were privileged to see the many diverse faces of America at the Democratic National Convention. Tonight I took a peek at the Republican National Convention. The thing that really resonated with me was, about 97% was their party consists of white, middle aged people. Although I knew this, it really hits you right between the eyes when you see them all together! This is not the face of MY America, nor do I want it to be.
