Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Well. And the other thing is. This team has over 17,000 members. However there are only perhaps 1-2 dozen people that really post here. So, on not sure why I should be overly concerned what the older members think. They have most liked already moved on.

Maybe a new team name that reflects new nutrition. Includes fats. Nothing associated with Tosca. Not necessarily low carb. But something that says unprocessed and natural food.

I'm gonna think of more names and when we come up with one and the concept behind it I will make a team announcement.

You have a point there Electralyte, Maybe getting the "clean" out of the team's name is a good idea. Maybe a lot of the members that are still happy to follow Tosca have joined to other teams because they disagreed with some of the things that we discussed here or maybe they are more active on the Eating Clean team--I don't know. Maybe if we changed the name to something completely different we would eventually attract a whole new set of members. Maybe, maybe, lots of maybe(s).

I agree too that Tosca's dietary recommendations are a real good idea for so many people who were eating the typical SAD diet (mostly refined foods, sugary commercial foods and soda pop). Like you it really got people turned around in a big way. I commend Tosca for that...just can't stand her media/commercial style; just not for me.

And as Laura reminded us, a lot of Tosca Reno's advice is too much based on popular and even ignorant ideas concerning fats and other nutrients without really educating people on nutrition. She also is a little too much into the one-size-fits-all mentality like the USDA food pyramid recommends. Some of us have learned that this just isn't enough. Some of us have learned that eating healthy fats is a very necessary thing for our health and that cutting down on grains and sugars of all kinds is beneficial.

Maybe it's time to move on

I think there are more than one team named Clean Eating or Eating Clean etc. for Tosca followers.
I don't know if keeping the Clean thing for new members is honest! LOL
Also very confusing for newbs.
You may be stuck with old members, like moi!
I loved clean eating for losing my 70 lbs. Going from horrible habits to Clean Eating is a great start.
But for maintenance and losing that last few lbs. it is NOT working anymore. I for one think that for me anyway, a change is needed.

I like that Laura! But when people come to Spark they are attracted to the word "clean". And so not to lose any potential teammates add the word clean to the description at least if you take that word out of the team's name. Just a sugg.

You know I've been doing some research and watching videos on Youtube about a diet called, "IIFYM" aka "If It Fits Your Macros"...basically you can eat WHATEVER you like and still lose weight, lose fat, build muscle and/or live a healthy life I don't agree that you can eat whatever you want and live healthy, but this is one of the "good things" about this diet along with the other stuff. Apparently some steroid bodybuilders and natural bodybuilders use this diet and have had and still get good results. Not to say that bodybuilders of any kind put health first, but I guess you can achieve any health goal or look by eating whatever you want following the rules of the diet. I have never been successful with doing a diet like this ever, but then again I wasn't following the structure of this diet either...who knew a diet like this existed?

Anybody heard of it???

I like that name too. When I Eat to Live, I maintain or lose. When there's an emotional component in my eating, I get in trouble real fast. I have to constantly remind myself that food should be fuel, not fun.

I am subscribed to your blog Laura and love your recipes.

I also subscribed to Kandi's....so many workouts!

I use Tosca's clean eating principles and when I'm not dieting I use her portioning method. When I start training for my first comp I will have to go back to 6-7 meals a day to help fuel my training. The bad part about fasting is the getting all the calories you need in order to lose weight if you have weight to lose or if you're trying to build muscle in such a short time (I have 6 hours to get in 2400 calories). I must admit that I am full between the hours of 12:30pm and 7pm and I look like it too - almost falling asleep, but my body fat percentage has decrease A LOT over the time I've been doing IF so I work with it.

Oops sorry...in the bodybuilding world meals are referred to as M1, M2 and so on and so forth. The basic setup is like this according to time:

M1 - meal 1 - breakfast
M2 - meal 2 - snack
M3 - meal 3 - lunch
M4 - meal 4 - snack
M5 - meal 5 - supper
M6 - meal 6 - snack

Some people eat several times a day (not going by time) so M1 can be lunch depending on the time you eat. Hope I explained it so that everyone understand. I only eat three meals and I eat at M3 in regard to time which is lunch, then M4 which is not a snack (but really is a full meal) and M5 which is supper.

Good info. I had considered subscribing to Clean Eating Magazine, but didn't for many of the reasons you've listed. I just don't do well when I eat grains. Plus, when I keep my meals simple, I'm less likely to get overwhelmed and pick up take out instead.

I definitely won't buy any of Reno's cookbooks. I still have a bunch of your recipes to try. Got my stevita, but then life got kind of crazy. I'm looking forward to doing some holiday baking. My doctors are going to have a cookie exchange and they promote organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free baking using stevia and coconut products as much as possible.

She is the one who started he "clean eating diet". Many people sort of think of her as the "pioneer" of clean eating. However, the first time I heard of the term was at least a decade ago from a bodybuilding waitress that I used to work with. I asked her what she meant by "clean food" Her reply was, "chicken breast, lettuce, tomato on a multigrain bun with mustard. That's it. Clean" she said... lol

So, anyhow, Tosca has taken the principle and churned out SEVERAL books on the subject. They are all filled with the exact same information in each book. Nothing new. But, it's all the SAD diet with a healthier twist. But SAD just the same. Lots of whole grains. And the low fat thing! God! No fat yogurt, skim milk and broiled chicken breasts coming out my "you know where!!!

LOLOL!

Sure. Let's think of some new names. I don't like that the "CLEAN" thing is so closely related to Tosca Reno, and I'm a bit bitter towards her right now....

Let's all brainstorm some ideas and see what we can come up with. Laura's our leader so she can make the final decision.

-Dr. Andrew Saul

Good info. This goes right along with what my doctor recommends. I sent the link to DH.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."

What does " m3, m4 and m5." mean?

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

I think 6 small meals a day is the way to go for most people because IE is not for everyone and not everyone can do it. Some people I recommended it to said they are starving. This one chick on Youtube said she tried it for two weeks and since she knows her body so well, that IE did nothing for her. What a spazz. Anyway, to each his own. I'm glad it works for you too Laura!!!!

I am totally on board with IF. I eat lunch around 12:00 - 1:00 then dinner at 5:00.
It's nice to finally figure out what what was wrong with me; why I was gaining so much weight on such a CLEAN diet and lots of good exercise.
It wasn't WHAT I was eating, it was WHEN I was eating.
It took me over a year to figure this out because mainstream health "gurus" all tell you the same thing.... eat 5-6 mini meals per day.
So, my foods haven't changed one bit. I'm a calorie counter, so I know that the "X" factor is the mini meals.

I intermittently fast everyday...1 go for 18 or 19 hours though. Lean Gains' says 16 is good enough, but I'm doing so well with it I've upped the number of hours. I only eat during m3, m4 and m5. I've dropped a lot of body fat since July (it's when I started).

I like this too. I usually eat around 5 or 6pm and then don't eat again until 10 or 11 the next morning. I have days once in a while where I feel very hungry earlier in the morning and when that happens I fix myself something small and high protein like a raw egg/raw milk eggnog.
