being a child of walmart (mom retired from there) ..... walmart is a ZOO!!! And I hate shopping there. BUT .... they are cheaper. And if you really look you can find good healthy food ..... in any store. ... but it does take time.
In the world that we live in today, trying to find true organic, no chemicals, not genetically modified foods or seeds ..... well I personally don't think it is possible. Even if you grow your food .... your still getting chemicals on your food. .... How many of you use a car? Or AC? Or even have rain fall on your plants?
I think ..... I think that as BLACKANDI has stated that we have to just choose the less evil of what is out there. Read the labels, research ..... and do your best.

Please, Please watch and listen for motorcycles while your out and about!

Peace, Love & Hugs

I ranted in another conversation here about a week ago about the whole healthy food costs too much excuse...I just think it's ridiculous. If someone wants to be healthy he/she will do her research to find out about good options at places like Walmart if they only had that place to shop at. I say make the best food choices wherever you go.

I just got back here. You guys are great! Personally, I HATE Walmart and would never buy any food there. Just don't trust them for reasons that are pointed out in this thread and also because just being there makes me crazy! I bought an air conditioner there once and a slow cooker. That's about it.

I posted this mainly for the people who might be struggling to get started eating real and unadulterated foods because of the cost. But you obviously have been around the park a few times and have made your own minds up. I'm glad to see you all care about this and are doing even better.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

The rallying cry was "It costs too much to be healthy!" "Well, how much is your health worth?"
Then the grocery industry (my term) got into the act and hit us with frozen healthy dinners with popular labels on them related to health. Yep, bad for us. Then the 'organic' craze took hold--BIG TIME!! And the grocery industry got in to that and in just a very few years cheapened the quality of those foods via their influence ($$) on our lawmakers.
So now we are back to either wasting our hard earned bucks on almost phoney organic foods or deciding to live as healthy as we can in a world of dyed, sprayed, injected, gmo'ed, etc, etc. that we are not in control of. Hey, I'll grow my own! Hey, numb-nut, unless you produce your own plant seeds, the seeds you bought are 'coated' with micro-fertilizers, etc.

Just live the best you can in a world that's trying to tell you how to live they way they want you to.

The above sermon was free!

Oh, I agree, however the last thing that I read is that Walmart is the only big chain that agreed to sell GMO sweet corn. Safeway is the only big chain that sells uninjected pork in our area. Vitamin Cottage quit selling organic chicken. There's no place for one stop shopping.

One thing I've noticed is that when I pay $7 a pound for organic grass fed beef or $5 a dozen for organic free range eggs, there is no waste! At those prices I'm a lot more careful to use everything up, so my grocery bill has stayed about the same.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

I don't think we can just point the finger at Walmart. Every single grocery store I have been in has food that I don't agree with. It's really a supply-demand thing. Stores are there to make money. Bottom line. If customers want it, then they sell it.

What stuff about organic?

The meat at our Walmarts are so injected with chemicals, that my dog won't even eat it. Also, Walmart has agreed to sell Monsanto's GMO sweet corn, so no matter where it's grown, it's toxic!

With the crazy stuff on SP coming out about 'organic(?)' foods grown here in the US, buying non-organic would be the same thing. Our Super W-M has signs posted above the produce, dairy, and meat sections that say if its grown/ranched in this state, the US, or its country of origin.

Yeah... I would also. except the small stores want 500% more for a lot of their stuff. A bottle of supplements that are $65 at the local health food store are only $13 at Walmart.
I'm lookin' out for #1 these days. lol

Yea, I don't go into Walmart if I can help it. I prefer to support the small stores and my local farmers here on the island if I can. I live ~3,000 miles from the mainland and it's important to me to support the people here.

Our Walmart in Seattle was a "zoo" for sure! I couldn't stand to go in there at all. But in this little town it's very pleasant. They are in the process of making it a super Walmart and the people that work there are very friendly and the customers are small town polite. I buy lots of stuff there. Way too expensive anywhere else. I am sorry for the smaller businesses though, They won't have a chance.

Yeah. I don't think I'd buy meat or produce there.... but I know they have the same brand name food there as the grocery store. And, if I'm there buying oil for my car (or batteries, lightbulbs etc), and I need some Greek Gods yogurt. I might as well get it there.
Walmart isn't going anywhere. lol

The dog won't eat meat from Walmart. Makes me wonder...

I mostly buy toys there and to save a trip to another store, I might buy something organic.

I can't stand Wal-Mart enough to go into it. I call it a zoo, but that's just me. But if I had to shop there I'd go for the frozen plain veggies, fruits and frozen grilled chicken...not sure about the fish...last time I was there (long ago) the fish doesn't come from our waters - that whole Fukashima thing has got me paranoid anyhow so I really don't eat fish anymore anyway.

I watch a lot of Youtube videos of people who in shape and I see that they have the walmart brand foods in their cupboards and in their refrigerators so I guess it's not all that bad...it's just not organic.

I don't know. I can't shop there. No patience. All the Yoga I do cannot even help this. :p

Interesting article. I've found that our local farmer's markets are REALLY expensive and the produce doesn't even look fresh. I've had better luck shopping at the farms and better prices at Natural Grocers or Sprouts. I don't bother with farmer's markets anymore.

I don't know... all I know is that if I'm at Walmart and I need something that they have, then I may as well get it there. I usually only buy certain types of foods anyhow. If I need Greek yogurt and they got, I don't see any reason to make another stop at another store.
I think buying unprocessed foods sends a message to retailers and manufacturer's no matter who they are.
