I put yolks back into my diet since I'm low carbing now and they make eating eggs taste a whole lot better.

Good for you - you are brave and willing. Lot of folks aren't.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Hey I tried the egg in my oatmeal .... yeah it's not for me. I don't know why but I could eat it all. It was just ........ emoticon ..... weird I guess. Can't really explain. It taste bad, so it must of been the texture of it. But it's not something I will have again. But I did try it!

SP posted it on Health News too. Can't wait to see the next study that rebuts this one. Who funds all of these flawed studies?

I've never tried the steel cut oats or cooking them in a crock pot.

Have you guys heard about the study saying that egg yolks are as bad as cigarettes? It was on Good Morning America. Yahoo had it in their videos. why don't they just leave eggs alone? I'm still eating my eggs!

Thanks for the great link on yolks. I think eggs are incredible nutritional powerhouses, and I eat the yolks. Plus, we raise our own chickens, so I know what they eat, that they are happy little hens, and the egg yolks are a beautiful gold color.

On the oatmeal front, have any of you cooked the Irish aka steel cut oats in the crockpot overnight? There are several recipes on the internet. In the wintertime, I use this method all the time and pack a thermos for DH and myself for breakfast on the run. Makes a lot, so I portion out the rest in containers, ready to go. Somebody I know freezes her oatmeal and pops it in the microwave to reheat at work. I don't use an microwave either.

Well, that's my 2 cents. Thanks!

Peace,
Fran

I'm the only one in my house that will eat oatmeal, so it's just easier to nuke it. HAHHA!! that is want I'm doing to it ..... maybe I should see about finding a small pot to cook it on the stove. would probably taste better that way. Maybe I'll look tonight, I got some errands to do anyways.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I made my oatmeal on the stove this morning and what a difference!!! (I didn't put an egg in it.) I used the same 1/2 cup of oats that I always use, but I did use a cup of water, instead of just enough to cover the oats. And man where they creamy and twice the volume. That was crazy!! The small pot that I do have will work, guess I will have to wash it out every morning .... oh well. The oats are so much better this way. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!

I never cook with a microwave so I don't really know. I always put the egg in when I pull the pan off the heat and let the heat from the oatmeal gently cook the egg while whisking it up in the pan. You might just do that when you remove the oatmeal from the microwave.

I really am much more comfortable with direct radiant heat from a stove than the electronically generated radio wave thing. That just sort of creeps me out. But each person must do what they feel comfortable with.

I like my oatmeal very creamy so I start with cold water and oats stirring it a lot before it heats up so the starch from the oats turn into a kind of pudding surrounding each grain. I've done it the other ways too but always come back to this yummy, creamy mouth feel thing.

I never thought of putting an egg in my oatmeal. Great idea, but my dog won't agree.

I'll have to settle for buying pasture raised eggs at the health food store. They do taste better than the regular eggs.

I didn't know that you could put one in oatmeal!! I will have to try that. I need to get my protein numbers up and that would help. My oatmeal with molasses is only 208 calories, so an extra 70 wouldn't hurt!! thank you!
Now I microwave mine for only 30 seconds ..... would I have to cook it for longer?

There are tasty ways you can use an extra yolk. You can simply mix a raw yolk into plain yogurt, add sweetener of choice and some vanilla extract. Great nutrition!

I drink eggnog - raw egg (and egg yolk if I have one), raw milk, stevia, vanilla, pinch of nutmeg. Oh my! Maple syrup makes a great sweetener for eggnog too.

Throw an extra yolk into some scrambled eggs. Whisk one into your oatmeal immediately after removing it from the heat. Makes for extra creamy oatmeal - I love this and make it for my grandbaby. I just whir some oats in my mini processor to make a fine meal and then cook it into a lovely, smooth dish--adding smashed banana or pear makes her chomp it down with glee!

I give raw eggs to my doggies too--every day! (from pastured raised chickens)

I've tried egg whites and to make them palatable, I have to add lots of stuff for flavor. What's the point?

For those rare recipes that call for just egg whites, then the dog gets an extra treat. She loves her two raw whole eggs that she gets every week.

I have never been an egg white person. I want the whole thing! Never really could understand why some body would throw away perfectly good food.
