Don't tell her what you put in it. I do that with my husband all the time. He is always saying he doesn't like onions, but I cook with them a lot. I either cut 'em up so small that he doesn't know they're in a recipe or I cut 'em big enough that he can pick them out. He's even weird with veggies...if I ask him if he wants some he says no, but if I just put them on his plate he'll eat them...go figure.
If you are worried about the garlic over powering the recipe, scale it back a little. Maybe put half of what the recipe calls for.
