Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Ani, I have been there and like you my list of furries that have gone on to where you believe they go is long. I know that our Eskie will be the next, we have had him about 16 years. I still miss my Kip who I had to put down almost 3 years ago, wasn't until recently when I added the munchkins this Dec that I actually change my desktop picture from him.
Hugs sweetie
May Boss greet you when you leave this earth....

I'm sorry I got behind in my email and just now saw your post, Ani. I know how much you love Bossy - and how much he loves you. And I know you two will be together again, with ALL of your other animal friends. I'm still missing my Sophie lots, even after a few months, but I know she's still hanging around "here" somewhere. I can just feel her "here" at times. And it's comforting. I hope you can feel Bossy "there", too.

A Little Dog Angel

High up in the courts of heaven today
a little dog angel waits;
with the other angels he will not play,
but he sits alone at the gates.
"For I know my master will come" says he,
"and when he comes he will call for me."

The other angels pass him by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And he watches them with a wistful eye
as he sits at the gates alone.
"But I know if I just wait patiently
that someday my master will call for me."

And his master, down on earth below,
as he sits in his easy chair,
forgets sometimes, and whispers low
to the dog who is not there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
and dreams that his master's voice he hears.

And when at last his master waits
outside in the dark and cold,
for the hand of death to open the door,
that leads to those courts of gold,
he will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
a little dog angel's bark.

Ani, our newest dog, Corky, was rescued through a pit bull group and came to my home as a foster over the holidays. (I've got pics in my gallery.) He was supposed to be put to sleep in Ontario where any dog that looks like a pit bull will be destroyed. You probably know that such laws exist all over North America. Anyhow, I did not go looking for a pit bull -- gosh, just imagine a librarian with one on a leash and you know what he and I look like together LOL -- he just found me and now I can't think of why I ever feared bully dogs. Thinking that a government thought he shouldn't live because of his appearance makes me very angry.

I know it is very early yet, but perhaps one day you'll find room in your heart for another dog that needs you.

Thank you very much PRAIRIEDAWNPAM, that brought another rush of tears. To see Bossy run up to me that way...and "Maggie"...and "Little"...and all the rest of my lost animals...oooh "Genny", my boofer who just disappeared one day many years ago...and Ouray, my appy colt and his mother "Lady" and "Sheba" my childhood horse...and...and... To see them all again happy and whole is a beautiful vision. What a mess of gorgeous animal people!! I could just sit and watch them play for hours and hours--so soothing.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This is so hard but I know that a lot of you know me (virtually!) and have looked on that kooky dog face for a long time.
Bossy is dead. We buried him in the back field where the goats graze. We had a sad but good "funeral" complete with everybody bawling and telling Bossy stories 'till we laughed through our tears and then bawled again. I'm still bawling--I really miss that bowser bad. He's been everybody's favorite dog. He had a real list (this is true) of adopters ready to take him in a flash if we couldn't keep him any more.
He's gone now...it's a Bossy-less world...can't believe it yet...I'll get better in a while.

We all crowded around and placed our hands on him as he passed through the door of no return. We hadn't planned that; it just happened. Bye bye Bossy; see you on the other side.
