I'm thinking that what Laura meant by "heating up" is not that some juicers make the juice real hot, they just work the vegetables in such a way that they get warmed up quite a bit sometimes. I have an old Vita-Mix and it does warm things up. Stuff can actually get very warm if you let it process for a time. The older Vita-Mixes actually sold this as a plus for making bread as it made it warm enough to start rising right away.

Maybe the newer Vita-Mixes keep the juice cool; I don't know. But for sure with a masticating juicer there is no heat and even though it separates the juice from the pulp, the pulp gets very chewed up and you can always put all or some of it into the juice if you want. I don't believe that is necessary because if a person is eating whole foods all the time then they are getting a lot of fiber anyway and they are also going to benefit a lot from just the vitamin and mineral and micro-nutrients that will be available in the juice. I often mix the tough fibrous leftovers with dog food. Doggys love it!

You know what else I like about my masticating juicer? It's quiet!

Just my opinion here and info for those who might want it.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

If anyone has a DVR that allows you to do a Search, here is a program to search for: The Incurables.
It is on a tv station called Veria. You can look it up www.veria.com/

www.locatetv.com/tv/incurables/36226

In the program they talk about people who had chronic/deadly diseases that use alternative therapies to survive. There is lots of talk about juicing, diet as well as other therapies. It is worth trying to watch.

I have an Omega masticating juicer. It's one I've had for about 6 years and I really like it a lot. It doesn't heat, it just chews the batildies out of the veggies (any kind of veggie and fruit). We always put the fibrous stuff that comes out the bottom through the juicer one more time. I'm sure the new ones work even better but...ahem...no money for that. Glad I've got the one I've got.

Here's a link to the Omega site. They have awesome juicers www.omegajuicersdirect.com/

Don't ask me what a batildie is 'cuz I just made it up.

I went to link but don't have time to watch the movie right now. I was just curious to see if was the same guy.

You mention in your first post about buying a juicer. Just thought I would suggest the Vita Mix since it wastes nothing. It doesn't have a heating element. It will maintain the temperature whether hot or cold because it blends so fast.

It was an investment for us as well. It's a multi function machine with the ability to process fruits, veggies, nuts or grains at top speed. 1 machine multi uses which I love due to our limited counter space! emoticon

My book was written by Ruth Ann Russo. I heard about Food Matters. I should have mention that. Oops. Sorry Laura!

They are not selling a juicer.
I know the book you are referring. Mark Bittm,an is great. That is a good book.
But, I am talking about the documentary. Again, the link is in my first post.

I bought a GREEN STAR juicer. When buying a juicer, I have spared no expense. If you get a cheap one that HEATS up the juice, there is NO POINT in juicing.

I ordered the GS 3000. In Canadian funds that is about $800.

Is this made by Mark Bittman? There's a book called "Food Matters" it's on my reading list.

I haven't watched this movie but I intend to. I don't know what juicer they are selling but have you heard about the Vita Mix. It's better than a juicer because it uses everything in the fruit or vegetable. A juicer pulls the pulp out taking a lot of the fiber with it. We Vita Mix everyday, there's very little waste. You can make all sorts of recipes with it too from smoothies, veggie drinks, hot soups, and breads.

Infomercial? No. A DOCUMENTARY. The link to the website is in my first post.
I think the idea to eating raw foods is this....
if your diet contains LESS than 51% of raw food, your body does not really "welcome" cooked food nearly so much as the raw food.
Anyhow... it makes sense. Watch the movie.

What exactly did you watch? I am a little confused. Infomercial? I, too, am interested in eating more raw foods. Although, I eat quite a bit now. I do enjoy my soups...not sure I could give all of them up.

I've been eating raw for a while now. I bought that book called The Raw Food Lifestyle and I've been following it closely. Not sure about that gadget, but I think I'm doing OK with the book. My body is showing me big time how my eating is affecting me. Love!

Mmm Raw! I love foods that still have their natural crunch! Cooking the life out of them makes them sad, which just tells you they aren't good for you anymore.

Way to go Laura. Thanks for the link.

I just watched it. I am SURE I'm gonna buy that JUICER now. In fact I already ordered it. The movie is in total agreement with what my dad did to cure himself of his cancer.
I remeber him telling me that the bodybuider/nutrtionist had GUARANTEED him that "unless it is God's will tha you DIE from this cancer, then I GUARANTEE you will beat it like the common cold"
He was very sure of himself, just like the people in this flick. It all really just makes good sense doesn't it?
Anyhow, I'm gonna start juicing and eating MORE raw foods. I'm glad I kicked the pasteurized milk. It really is a DEAD food.
Anyhow, I'm gonna start with at least 51% of RAW foods in my diet. I'm gonna try to work up to 80%.
Juicing, fruits & veggies, omega 3's, Vit. C...

I also feel that we should all be doing more to DEMAND Nutrtional Therapy as an option for treatment.
So, people who are sick and dying have a right to ask for this when they see a doctor. Apparently it is ILLEGAL for a doctor to try and treat diseases such as cancer with nutrtion or mega-vitamin doses. There isn't any MONEY in it. So sad... emoticon
