I'm still trying to find out more, too. Let me know what you find!

WOW!! Thanks for that article. I admit that I'm too tired right now to understand it completely but I will go back to it tomorrow. I too have been under the misconception that somehow nutritional yeast was "different" than other baking yeasts. This is very interesting. Thank you for posting!!

I noticed too just now when I looked up some of the different brands of nutritional yeast that none but one of the ones I looked at listed Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the ingredients. Interesting.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

I don't know... I just did a little research, and found that nutritional yeast does indeed contain MSG. Check out the following link:

I was glad I found this link, because I am already familiar with Dr. Blaylock and truly respect his research and opinions.

Kellcat I agree with you about the microwave; I rarely ever use mine except to re-heat my coffee which isn't all that good for me anyway! There's been a lot of testing of what changes go on in foods when exposed to microwaves. Doesn't look very healthy.

Also, there are, as has already been mentioned a lot of things you can put together yourself using "clean" ingredients to flavor your popcorn. Nutritional yeast is a great idea. It also comes naturally smoked.

You can spray the popcorn with a little vegetable oil spray and then toss in any of those seasoning mixes I shared on my blog. Now I'm getting hungry for popcorn! No, no, no! No grains for me after 2pm and only 1, possibly 2 small portions a day.

Laura - your gut was right about the microwave. The radiation denatures the food.

And I'm not sure there is too much that is safe or clean to put on popcorn. A lot of those things everyone mentioned sound a bit suspicious. Check the ingredients. If it says "natural flavoring" or "spices" but doesn't tell you what those flavors or spices actually are, beware! Unfortunately, many companies use MSG to add flavor, and it goes by many names:

Hey kids, if you're going to eat popcorn better only eat a small amount (really small amount) even if you don't put anything on it. Those starchy carbs will turn into sugar which, as we all know, causes your lovely bodies to store fat.
Also, remember, corn is NOT a vegetable, it's a grain.
Just sayin'
Love you all!

I bought mine from the kitchen outlet in San Marcos, but I've seen it at walmart and Target too.

Hmmm, where do I find an air popper? Also, Half Naked popcorn is good right? It says light olive oil and whole grain.

It is kind of nutty and high in B vits. You will need to go to a health food store. I get mine in bulk, but if you an not in a lager city you may need to buy it on internet. I also like it on veggies and potatoes.

my first spritzer was from pampered chef and it didn't make it very long, but I'm now using one that bought from marshall's. It's silver and black and I like it. My mom has the same one and she's pleased as well.

Have an air popper, but can't seem to find a oil sprayer that actually sprays. They seem to send an oil stream out LOL

I like to spray with some olive oil and sprinkle parmesan on it.
Oh. I always use my air popper to make it. Something doesn't seem right about eating that microwave stuff. emoticon

I like Tony Catcherie's (sp?) seasoned salt, or smoked salt added after I spritz with a little bit of olive oil. I've used some dried ranch dressing before too.
My husband loves his salt and butter though, but at least I've gotten him to switch from store bought microwave ready, to whole kernels in the bag.
Do you have a popper? We bought one that you don't even have to add oil to...you can dry pop it in the microwave.

I love popcorn, but I know that butter and salt are not really healthy for you. So how do you dress it up to taste yummy?
