I admit that I too love to shop on-line and have, in the past ended up sometimes with c..p that I didn't need. But most of the time I've been thrilled with what I get and it's so, so easy for this slightly agoraphobic person.

I found the cure for the shopping on-line obsession though...no money...LOL! Our small business, dealing in a luxury item as it does, has been hit really hard by the recession. Actually it's good for me to get back to basics and be content with what I have. Lord knows I have enough!!

SparkPeople is FREE...except for the time I spend chatting like this...

Next month I'm going to join a challenge to not shop for non-essentials for the entire month. I really need to calm down. I have a huge clothes and makeup addiction and I've had it for years. Don't know how to stop.

I just ordered Julia Child's French cookbook.

HELLO! Why didn't I think of that - the WISH LIST, yeah, that's what I'll do too! My mom is always nagging (in a good way) for Xmas ideas! And it is right around the corner!

So, I'm off to the bookstore this weekend to make my list! (And I'll probably stop by the children's section to pick up a "little something" for Carter - can't resist that either!)

I love to buy cookbooks too. My mother-in-law and I both love to read cooking magazines and cookbooks. Now are husbands are just sitting patiently and waiting for us to cook. LOL!

Hubby has a wonderfully smelling beef stew slowly cooking in the crockpot filling our home with a delicious aroma right now. I am blessed indeed. :0)

I am addicted to certain kinda foods...all of the bad ones!!! Hahahaha!

And I'm with you 212...if it ain't got pictures I don't want it. How can you sell a cookbook w/o pictures? I do want that Julia Child All About French Cooking book, but I don't think it has pictures in it. I don't cook fancy, but it would be nice of me to do at least one recipe for Hubby since he's half French. Hmmmm...maybe.

Laura, where do you suppose we get the ingredients for that stew recipe you got there? I doubt any of that is at my farmers market or at Whole Foods. Totally confused here.

I have all of Rachael Ray's books...30 minute meals. I have yet to work with those since I have to make them clean which is another exhausting thing to work with as well.

Anyway...I'm tired of typing now. Ha!

I picked up Clean Food a few weeks ago at the book store, briefly looked thru it (What! No pictures?) and put it back down. My thought was to take another (closer) look this weekend, but maybe not now after your suggestion - Thank you! I may not waste my time since I have access to none of those ingredients listed - or even know WHAT they are! LOL!
I will however take a look at Earth to Table.
Thanks for the review!

Yes. I am addicted to food, exercise AND shopping. Cookbooks are not the ONLY thing I bought today! LOL! I won't go into my LENGTHY LIST! HA!

Anyhow, upon skimming through the books, I am not so sure I would recommend them to just anyone... they are great books, don't get me wrong, but the average housewife just doesn't have the TIME or INGREDIENTS in these books. Especially the CLEAN FOOD book. It is clean food meets GOURMET cooking for sure... here is a sample of SOME of the ingredients in ONE recipe...

• strip kombu
• burdock roots
• kudzu
• gomasio
emoticon That is just ONE recipe... a STEW recipe. But there is a similar tone throughout the book. Not something a busy family of five has readily available in the cupboard, you know what I mean?
Anyhow, it has some great looking recipes, but they are for the extraordinary cook. Not the average, working mom. (generally speaking)
I really like the other book much better. Earth To Table. Easily identifiable ingredients emoticon and much simpler recipes. They use bison mozzarella in a few recipes. I wonder if that bison ranch here sells anything like that. Although, I guess, like raising cows, a farmer raises EITHER beef cattle OR has a dairy farm.

Well hey, I often, very often read recipes instead of eating. Somehow it helps. Yes, you are right, about me if not about Laura. I am a food addict.
Hello, my name is Duckbill. I'm a foodaholic....AND PROUD OF ...no not really. I'm dealing with it...sigh

Ooooh, these sound like good book choices. Maybe I can find these jewels used or at my library. Funds aren't available for me to increase my cookbook library...sigh. Anybody got some rich relatives in Portland who want a family portrait done? LOL! Probably shouldn't be soliciting on sparkpeople. I'm joking anyway!

Hey, do any of you ever watch Harvest Eating videos on Keith Snow's website?

Oh oh. The last one you posted about, I bought as well. I'll have a look!

I did get into making my own bread when our newspaper had a big article about how easy it is to make your own artisan bread. And they were right! It turned out beautiful. I was so proud I sent pictures of my creation to all my sisters and a few friends.

Thanks!

OK. I got two more cookbooks today. Couldn't help it. I really DO have a problem and apparatly no shortage of CASH! LOL!
Anyhow, I got

I can't wait to try the Sweet Potato Gnocci... we often had homemade gnocci when I was growing up, but I like the healthy twist of using sweet potatoes instead. Also, Maple Shoofly Pie, Wheat Berry Beer Bread, Venison Pub Pie... it also tells you how to start your own herb garden (I had one at one time; long time ago I started from a kit...)

Anyhow, next on my list of books are WHOLE GRAINS COOKBOOK, and 200 FAST & EASY ARTISAN BREADS; one bowl, no knead
