I was glad to hear that my experience is not unique and that I am not alone in delaying the test or having the callbacks good for us for doing it anyway! best of luck to all who have decided to test and those who are waiting to hear

I have been there getting that callback! Not fun and no matter how much you tell yourself to put it in God's care - you still worry. Most of these are just being extra cautious. You are in my prayers. Gloria

i just received notice for my yearly mammogram. I tend to be too busy to bother as never felt threatened by breast cancer but after reading all these messages I will make my appointment.

I will pray for you too. I have had to get a second mammogram 8 times, but only 6 ultrasounds. Had a lump removed and watching another.

Shannon ~ I'm 28 and had my first mammogram this year. I have several cysts that come and go. As they got bigger I become more alarmed and was told that I should definitely have a mammogram. I went in and was told the same thing as you...I have dense breasts which made it very hard to read. I then had to have a sonogram. It turned out to be nothing serious but I would definitely recommend listening to the doctors and their instructions. I work in the insurance industry and cannot tell you how many cases we've seen where the cause for premanent damage was lack of patient responsibility. They provide the instructions (come back every 6 months or take this type of medication) for a reason. Best of luck to you. I will keep you in my prayers.

I know how scary that can be. I had to go back 3 times when I received my first mammo at the age of 39. As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about, but each call-back makes you worry a little more. My breasts are very fibrous, so I guess that contributes to the confusion. I would take solace in the fact that the docs are not having you back in right away. We will all be thinking about you.

I have been a mammo tech for over 18 years. Majority of the time the answer to the question on the mammogram can be simply answered by redoing the mammogram by taking the images in a different way. Sometimes it's an overlap of your normal tissue, sometimes it's an artifact that makes it difficult to tell if you grew it or is it something new, etc. About 1 in 10 patients have a chance of getting called back for additional imaging. About 1 in 10 of that group will need to gone to have a biopsy or additional follow-ups. To add to that, about 80% of all breast biopsies in the US turn out to be negative. With all that being said, it's still scary - bottom line. I tell my patients that no one will tell you anything worse that what you already have told yourself. It is hard to find anyone that doesn't have a relative, church member, friend or know someone that has had breast cancer. Be thankful that you went to a facility that has physicians that are discerning enough to want to investigate thing further. Unfortunately, I'm sure there are places where doctors pass things off. It's easy for me to tell you, "Don't worry until they give you something g to worry about." I will be praying for a good result for you. Please feel free to contact me if I can answer anymore questions for you. God Bless!
May God richly bless you & yours!

RJANEWWAY makes a VERY good point!!! NEVER EVER put off your mammo appt, even though most of us just dread going. As she pointed out, things can change in between those visits, and even though we sometimes think the docs are being overly-cautious, really they are looking out for our best interests. I am so glad to hear you are doing well RJ! You make very valid points on why not to put these things often. I pray the worst is over for you now and you are returning to great health.

I'd say the love is dripping off the walls in here, girlfriend. Let us know how you fair.
Okay, Tillis and all, I'm not trying to be an alarmist here; BUT just adding a touch of the other side of reality. Ten years ago I had the same experience as Shannon. I went in for the three follow-up appointments every six months with no change. I was supposed to go in at 24 months, but was busy and didn't. They called (4 times), but I kept putting it off. At the 12 month mark since my last mammo (6 months late), I went in. I had 4 tumors, 3 were malignant, and all 3 were malignant with 3 different kinds of cancer. My point is, don't freak out - my situation is very unusual, but don't get too comfortable, either. That's what I did and by the time I went in, I had Stage 2 ca in only 12 months. Just be sure to do whatever they tell you and don't miss any follow-up appointments just because they've all been fine. My story has ended very well so far, but had I kept that appointment, I probably wouldn't have needed chemo.
Again, I'm not trying to be an alarmist. I just don't want anyone else to be too "busy" to keep their appointments. Best of luck with yours, Tillis! - RJ

I also have been a mammo tech for 16 years and completely agree with TWUKAWITZ. I have also been called back and my mother was also. Thank God they were all fine. I think I was worse with my mother as far as anxiety! Anyway, I'd say 99% of the time everything is fine, but I will still be praying for you. Feel free to also email me privately if you want. God Bless!!

I definitely will pray for you that you get good results. Why are they making you wait so long. That doesn't seem right or are they that booked in advance. I know I just went through this just a couple of weeks ago and they had me set up and appt for another one. I got in within the week. I just relaxed and said to myself if this is a tumor then it's in God's hands now. Well I sure didn't get all anxious or any thing like that. When I went they put me in a different room and I could see what they thought to be a lump or tumor. They took more pics and seen that it wasn't anything to worry about. I am good for another year. I just pray that is what is going for you too!! Blessing coming your way.

I can tell you from experience, I've had this happen to me repeatedly. I had my first one done well before the "typical" age since my doctor suggested it. The first time I went in, the next day I had a call back and went in that same day. They needed to take more pictures because my breasts were "dense" (and I'm a big girl) and some of the views they had were fuzzy. I was given my results right then and there, which was a relief. Each breast had a lump in it that they believed to be benign, and I was told to have mammograms every 6 months for 2 years to check on these. Well, 3 times and 18 months into it and I was told I could go back to yearly mammograms because the lumps had not changed in shape or size. I know just how you feel when you get that phone call, but I think it's just the radiologists being very good and thorough and probably want to get better pictures in case they saw something. I still have the lumps and I have very fibrous tissue as it is which makes it hard for them to see. Call backs are VERY common and most places will have you wait right there for results to make sure the radiologist doesn't need any more pics. They know how stressful it is to get called back in, so they'll want to relieve you of that. You hang in there and try your best not to worry. The fact they didn't want you back immediately is a good thing too. We are ALL here for you in prayer in hugs.

I have had the double whammy 3 times followed by ultrasounds just to check I quivered the first time
however all three have proved negative now I make sure that before the 2nd mammo is ordered, that they check the previous years

My prayers are with you....I would like to put your mind somewhat at ease though.
I have been a Mammo tech for 12 years now and most of the time a callback, such as it sounds like you might be experiencing, turns out to be nothing worriesome. Please try to rest easy, you will more than likely get your results on the same day. I know this is a tough time for you but take it just one step at a time and don't stress too much.
Feel free to email me privately if you wish, T
PS I will be out of town until Sunday evening.
