MASONSGG .... Too funny... my mum is called GG also! emoticon

Yes, I love her cardio kickboxing! I found it on youtube too. I also only use 3lb weights. I don't mind bulking a little ... then I have a little something to show off! I measure every week! I even gained 1/2" in my waist??? I am at a loss. I have actually stopped the Shred and for the past couple of day I have eaten my top calorie range ... this morning I AM FINALLY DOWN 1/2"! As for gaining muscle ... my thoughts went there too. Regarding muscle weighing more than fat ... I think this concept is based on volume correct? Does that mean that we gain and lose muscle and fat at the same volume? Oh heck ... I don't really care ... I just want MY volume GONE! hee hee Think I will have to maybe alternate the Shred with Cardio Kickboxing. Anything is worth a try! Thanks for your help!!

MUMMYLICIOUS, love the name. I did the 30 day shred and I lost about 15 lbs. I love Jillian Michaels Videos. Do you measure? I slowed down on the weight loss too and everyone said I was gaining muscle and it weighs more so Your still making progress. I only used 3 lb weights because I didn't want to bulk up on muscle. She also has a 20 minute Kickboxing video that I found on you tube for free.
Honey... Whew! I thought you were superwoman! LOL
truly keep up the good work. You look fantastic!

Ok, all I keep reading about is the Heart Rate Monitor, I guess that is one essential piece of equipment you really do need to track calories burnt. I do some videos on Comcast under sports and fitness and there is no way to track them. Thank you all for your input, good luck to all on all your endeavors!!!!

I am doing the same ... figured my BMR and subracted 500 calories from that which left me with 1500 calories. Plus, my goal is to burn at least 500 calories per day in exercise. Went and bought a great HRM too that tracks calories in and caloried burned etc. I am staying perfectly on track with both nutrition and exercise, however, I have stalled in weight loss and am not seeing much in the way of inches lost. Terribly terribly frustrating!!! So, I have two thoughts ... one is that I should eat the top of my calorie range (1830) for a few days to perk up the metabolism. Two is that I started the 30 Day Shred about 10 days ago and am doing it daily as part of my cardio and I wonder if the strength training incorporated is slowing down the weight.

Any thoughts?

Keep up the great work Honey ... hope you soon reap your rewards!!

Sorry guys I did mean 3500 calories burned per week. LOL I was typing pretty quickly this morning.

I just bought a $38 heart rate monitor at Wal-mart that also does speed, steps and distance along with exercise time and calories burned.

Hi HONEY032086: It sounds like you have a good idea of your goals and how to keep on top of achieving them! I'm curious, did you mean burn 3500 calories per day or per week? A daily 3500 burn would mean burning 700 calories/hour for 5 hours. That's a lot of exercise!

As for me, I keep watching my weekly calories burned and adjust my intake if necessary. I like to see my calories burned go up as I continue to have more energy to exercise. So far it's gone over a month from about 1800 to 2500 to 3200 burned weekly. I'm happy with that. For me, increasing my cardio to achieve results seems to backfire. I don't see the results necessarily and I push myself too hard before I'm ready. That's just me.

As far as looking at number of calories burned per activity, someone said running a 6 min. mile for 20 minutes only burned about 360 calories. Yowza!!! 360 calories in 20 minutes? AND being able to run a 6 min. mile? That's pretty stinkin' good IMHO. :-)

I use dvd's like Tae Bo,BL Cardio Max and BL Bootcamp dvd's to burn lots of calories. I try for around 3,000 a week. I can do this with exercising 6 days a week for about 40 - 50 min a day. However, I've worked my way up to this amount over 3 years. I didn't start exercising this much until this year.

That link is good and seems pretty accurate. I personally have a heart rate monitor that I use when doing any exercise seeing as I have a personal goal of burning 583 calories a day for a total of 3500 a week. I have been losing a pound a week so it has been working. The total calories burned for anybody is going to vary from person to person, so a heart rate monitor is your best bet! I have noticed Sparkpeople calories burned is way off sometimes. Hope this helps :)

I've found that SP's calorie calculations aren't right for me. I went to Wal-Mart and got me a $25 Heart Rate/Calorie Counting watch and keep track of my burned calories that way during exercise. It gives me a much more acurate reading and lets me know if I'm in the right exercise zone as well.

I drink lots of water and I snack on fresh fruit all day. I just don't get the whole calories burning thing. I thought I was doing really good with my burn goal. I just don't see how anyone would have the time or energy to burn so many calories in 1 day.

Well I just checked to be sure and for Running: 6 min/mile for 20 minutes I only burn 360 calories and for swimming breaststroke for 30 minutes will burn only 327 calories. So how are you burning so much? I don't get it. Sorry

I have a treadmill at home, which is great for winter months when you can't get outside. However, if I ever had the money to buy a new piece of equipment, I think I'd go for the eliptical.

I've done the same thing! In fact, I keep going in and modifying it... I change how many days and for how long each day I do cardio. I change my goal date or how much I want to lose per week, going from 0.5 pounds to 2 pounds, just to see what that does to the daily calorie recommendations. I didn't set it up with maintenance in mind --- I'll have to try that!!

I'm also working on adding more fruits and veggies to my daily meals, as well as more protein, to help combat that hungry feeling.

Also -- more water. Whenever I think I'm hungry, I drink about half a cup of water (it's always right next to me anyway) and then wait 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I find that is just enough to satisfy me, and other times I really do need that snack.

11Well I have been really hungry lately probably because I've been exercising more so I put in for 1lb per week instead of 2lbs so I could eat more.

For an experiment though, I put in to stay at this weight of 138 and SP came up with a range of 1980-2330 calories per day. I put in my goal weight of 125 by 8/20/09 and the range came up to 1480-1830 calories/day. This is with burning 3500 calories per week from exercise. So essentially I'll lose 2lbs per week...since the difference between 2330 and 1830 is 500 multiplied by 7 is 3500 calories I'm cutting from my diet.

Anyway this is a tip for those of you who are super hungry, change your goal to 1lb per week and up your exercise if you can. I think I'll stay around the bottom range though but I at least can eat more for breakfast now. :)
