I just wanted to say that Shumsky was in touch with me, my order has been resolved, and ALL of the people I emailed with from Sparkpeople were incredibly responsive and helpful. SparkPeople has some of the best customer service I have ever encountered--they get major kudos from me!

The store is run through another company, Shumsky, which is not in Cincy. So, there is not a way to do that.
Sorry about that!

Sacred - Shumsky is the vendor that runs the store for us. Their contact info is listed on this page: www.sparkpeoplestore.com/content.cfm?uid=7 092. You can email or call them about your order to find out what is happening. If you don't hear back from them by Monday afternoon, please let me know and I will look into it for you.

I also ordered the same kit--NO tax or shipping cost came up. I halted the process and started over, thinking it was user error. Again, no tax, no shipping costs given. So, I placed my order, and in the "notes" asked someone from the SP store to contact me BEFORE charging my card/shipping item, to let me know the shipping costs. This was...Tuesday night, I believe. No one has yet contacted me. I haven't received an email confirmation. I do, however, have a "pending charge" on my credit card for $33.70 from a company called Shumsky Enterprises. Is this SP? I have no idea, and my bank can't tell me. I'm still waiting to see if someone from the SP store will contact me about my order. (I gave email and phone # contacts.) I hesitate to buy locally not knowing if my SP order is coming.
Now I am worried that the $33.70 is a shipping cost and not even the cost of the item. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the SP store?

It's wonderful that everyone jumped in with advice about the probable cause of the high shipping and handling fee. It's great to know that it was resolved well and gives me confidence to purchase Spark stuff! Thanks to those who provided the info about the free shipping this month with a $50 purchase. I'm buying a few things.

I used to work for USPS so I understand shipping costs (by the way USPS is the cheapest and they do a very good job--seriously) but the handling charges is what really bugs me. If a company offers free shipping, they get my business!

Mollliebean - they have a shipping charge schedule - based on the total price of the order - you are correct if it's under $30.00 -- overnight shipping is the $33.45 that she mentioned.

Ra-neigh -- I just went to the SP STORE and entered the Starer Kit that you ordered. Once you enter what you want, the full price comes up, showing you the shipping charges. If you click on the line it will bring up different shipping charges. You may have requested OVERNIGHT shipping because that is the $33.45 you mention. The Starter kit is $25.00...

This sounds like there is something wrong. I would contact them.
When I want to order anything online I go to the end - checkout - and then see how much the shipping is, if I feel it's too high I don't go any further. I have not seen a website that asks you to put your credit card info in before your reach the check out.
So something is obviously wrong. I just received 2 books from Amazon and the shipping cost was under $5.00....

I just received today from UPS my Smart Portion Lunch kit, and it was only $6.75 for my shipping ground. This kit is extremely nice, for $17.99 + my tax/shipping only ended up costing $26.

Lol wow this is still going and just to clear it up...I am computer inteligent...and not anywhere did it say how much shipping would cost. Im not sure if there was a glitch, but i searched high and low for the amount. And to the people who are saying that maybe I shouldnt have ordered because I couldnt see the price, I didnt really have a choice. Lol some people took this the wrong way. Also I would like to add that I do not blame SP for shipping charges. I love the low prices of the equipment so I will wait for ground shipping And no I will not be adding anything else to my cart, I'll hopefully reach another personal goal and buy something else this month. Thank you everyone.

That is a bummer, but this is not the place to post it. You need to talk to someone at SparkPeople and let them know of the problem so that it can be fixed. People make mistakes. I'm sure they would be happy to help you.
NOTE: Apparently I didn't need to post this. Sorry.

I just orderd the starter kit 3 days ago and got the e-mail today about the free shipping. My order has already been mailed out, but I do like the new workout shirt.
I love SP, and even though I was very unhappy with the way things went with my order I don't have band feelings about SP. I ended up sending feedback to a different person that cleared up my problem right away.

Hi - This is Beth from SparkPeople. I am so sorry to hear of the issues you experienced at the store. It does seem that there is an error as you should have seen the cost of the shipping prior to completing your order and that amount does seem too high for Ground shipping. It sounds like it was resolved but please let me know if you need any further follow up.
As far as those who ordered and want to take advantage of the May offer of free shipping with orders of $50 or more, you should be able to give the store a call and add to your order if you would like.
Hope this help! Thanks again for your continued support of SparkPeople!

I usually find when something like this happens to me that I am the one who didnot pay enough attention to the details.
US shipping costs are much better than overseas. I have paie over $100 to send something overnight in the US to avoid paying several more hundred to ship directly overseas.

Oh man, I am dealing with the same sort of problem right now. First they denied it, saying my card wasnt accepted, then they said oops it was already shipped please give us another card. In the meantime I had reordered it which then the second order had to be cancelled. The tracking number they gave me shows that the order hasn't shipped, plus my order shows a different amount then the person who has been emailing says I owe. AND they made sure they already charged me for it. I don't think I will order anything from the store again. Walmart is just down the street.

I had the same thing happen, but on my confirmation email there was a number to call, so I called it and they changed my shipping so I wouldn't be charged that ridiculous amount. I was pretty heated too, but in all honesty I knew I would have to pay for it, you just expect a reasonable price, right?

UPS and FedEx have Zone-based shipping costs. How much you care charge for shipping depends one the zone shipped from in relation to the zone shipped to. The cost of shipping through UPS or FedEx varies depending on the type and size of packaging, the zone, the value of the item being shipped, and the type of item being shipped.
Most companies set a standard shipping rate for all customers that balances out the cost. Not all companies do this however.

I just got an e-mail from Spark today that if your order is $50 or more, then for the month of May shipping will be free. I want to order the starter kit, a dvd, and maybe t-shirt. Just thought I'd pass that on. Glad you got the mess figured out. I've had problems on other sites too where other have not. It's very frustrating!

Keep in mind that SP probably does not set the shipping rates- generally, they are set by the shipping company (USPS, FedEx, UPS). Also, it's always important to assume that there will be an additional shipping cost on top of the price you are paying for the product, and you need to make sure you select the correct shipping option ANYTIME you shop online, not just with SP. Glad you were able to get it fixed, though!
We should all be thankful SP is a free site!

A few months ago I had to ship a birthday gift to my grandson. I used UPS cuz I could still get it out that same day and his birthday was the following day. So I figured it would be just a day late (allowing 2 days for shipping). Well, I paid $19.67 to ship, the gift cost $15.99 and it took 5-7 days to ship. What a ripoff!!! I my as well have waited until the next day and went to the post office.
And my husband makes canes. We had to ship one out to Michigan and he wanted to go to UPS cuz we didn't have a box in that shape. It cost $33.47 to ship that parcel.
I won't be using UPS to ship anything anymore. Fed Ex is probably just as bad.
Oh jeez lol I wish I knew that. I would have added more stuff. Lol i love reasons to add more stuff.

I work for an internet company that does lot of shipping for online orders. They do offer 'Free Shipping" to their customers as an added bonus and absorb the shipping cost themselves. I am afraid to say that the shipping charges these days are outrageous. It is the "shipping company" that needs to be blamed for this.

I too have ordered from Spark, and before the order is finalized you have an opportunity to view the final amount before submitting. When shipping is more than the purchased item I too have canceled.

I just got off the phone with Spark People and I guess I forgot to change it from overnight to ground shipping. I was able to change it to ground shipping, thank goodness. I still think that's a little steep for overnight however. And I'm still a little ticked off that they wouldn't give that information on the site. I'm sure the majority of spark people, seeing as they joined a free weight loss site, doesn't have the money to be throwing around on shipping. Dont get me wrong, I love the site, I love the store, I just dislike how pricey shipping is. Im glad this all got fixed before it was too late

I just checked at the store, as if I were going to buy it. It immediately showed me an estimated freight amount of $6.75. So unless you live outside the United States, the shipping amount you got was some kind of glitch. There's a "help" button on every page of the store, & I'm sure customer service will help you straighten this out. Good luck.

I just went to the store, put the starter kit ($25.95) into my cart and it brought me to my updated cart with the kit in there, and a $6.75 shipping charge (it even linked to the Freight Chart http://shumsky.4nova.net/sparkpeople/freight.cfm?isDomestic=Y&isBusiness=Y) and I can see my total is going to be $32.70 before I ever put my credit card or information in.
Are you in the United States? Did you ask for two-day or overnight shipping? That's the only way I can see the charges being more than the highest shipping charge of $8.75.

I would contact them because it does not sound right. I just got (today in the mail) the starter kid DVD and cardio blast DVD for a total of $25.50 and my shipping and handling was only $6.75 (total: $32.25).

I just went to order the same thing and it says in the checkout to click the link for freight charges. If you want it overnight and the cost is between $16.01 and $30.01, the cost is $33.45. Can you still cancel?

RA_NEIGH, are you sure you didn't accidentally order overnight or 2-day shipping? I would call the customer service number to verify. That doesn't seem at all right if you used ground shipping. -RJ

Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. Maybe you should try to call them? It sounds like a mistake may have been made....

First let me say I totally agree that the price for shipping is outrageous! But was there not a contact us before you placed the order that you can find out from someone how much shipping would be? I personally would not place an online order until I had all that information.

When I find a site that won't tell me what shipping costs, I insist on knowing up front. I will not order if the shipping is too high. I will not order if they do not tell me what the shipping costs are - I have seen too many sites charge twice the actual cost of shipping.

As much as I love SP, I agree that the $33.45 seems very high for S&H. I completely agree with you that this needs to be shown in the order before finalizing the order.
Have you tried contacting anyone about this?

Last night I ordered the spark people equipment starters pack that was suppose to be 29.95 or something like that. At the end it didnt add any tax up, which I thought was odd, but another thing is it didnt say how much shipping was going to be.Subtotal ........ 25.95 Shipping & Handling ........ 33.45 Total ........ 59.40 If I had known shipping and handling was going to be so much I wouldnt have ever ordered this. If your going to sell things you cant just have people assume how much their going to pay, freaking tell em.
