I also do the turbo jam w/ the weights. I know it brings my HR up per my HRM and burns more calories, but I don't know that there is a huge difference. I would say, perhaps takes from burning 5 calories per min to 7-10 per min. but it has been a while since I compared it. I love turbo jam and even more so w/ the gloves.
I also use weights while doing Jillians videos for the punching and kickboxing moves.
As for me I do good to kick the curb sometimes -- Is their a kick boxing for the diminishing over-in-dowed? I do notice that when you set the pedometer to the correct weight it logs a better calorie count that when it thinks you are light -- maybe 10 - 12%... (never really did the math - just observing)
I used to do this with turbo jam but I could never figure out how many extra calories I was burning. I wear 1lb or 1.5lb weights every so often while doing kickboxing, it really strengthens your arms and also I've heard it burns more calories but I wonder how much. hmmmmm
