You can go to amazon.com to read about it. There are lots of reviews on there. Just search for Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

Okay, so among those of you who've tried the 30 day shred, which seems to come highly recommended, how successful have you been with losing the weight? And how often do you use it? 30 minutes once a day how many times a week? Thanks! :)

I've completed the Shred and I love it! I tell everyone I know to get it. You will notice a difference just in toning up. There's a Spark team for Shred. It's a really good place to get advice and see how other people are doing it. Everyone does it differently so it's nice to check it out and see how you can adapt it to yourself. Goodluck on getting Shredded!

OK....all this talk about the 30 day shred is making me want to try it. I have it on "On Demand" and I will give it a shot when I get home after work. With all the talk about how it kicks your butt, I think I will warm up for about 10 min before I start.
Wish me luck

The fat burning zone of working out is a myth. It's true that you burn more fat, but the higher your heart rate the more calories you burn in total. You want to focus on burning more calories during your workouts than exercising at a lower intensity to burn more fat.

I am drop-jaw shocked that your heartrate is lower doing the stairmaster than running! Seriously, when I do the stair climber I have to keep it at level 9/10 and my heartrate is pounding at the 180's. Okay, so to stay in fat burn you need to be in the perfect heart rate range for your body. This will be based on your age and resting heart rate. I recommend buying a good heart rate monitor if you don't already have one because the machines are very inaccurate (is that what you are going by?). The one I use is a Polar F55 HR monitor. You have to wear a chest strap with Polar watches but this is the most accurate way of relaying your HR. For me, if I am above 155, I am no longer in fat-burn mode but I am in high intensity cardio. You will still burn lots of calories but not necessarily fat calories - high intensity depletes your immediate stores (like breakfast calories for example). Then it will go into your muscles and fat. It sounds like you are on the right track though with lots of variation in your workouts. Keep that up and your body will not get bored - muscle memory is when your body "remembers" your workouts and you stop burning calories efficiently - well, you burn them but not as many because your body doesn't feel like it's really working very hard.
I incorporate at least one at home video a week with running 3-4 days a week and crosstraining on the stair climber and elliptical. IT seems to be working. Best of luck!!

Actually, you can adjust the high impact. I am recovering from a stress fracture and am not allowed anything more than low impact. Step side to side instead of doing the jumping jacks and make sure to pump your arms to increase your heartrate. Also, when they are jogging in place, just step/march in place.

Is there a lot of high impact cardio? I just trashed my back again and will have to take it slow for a while. I doubt I'll ever be able to do high impact exercise unless they come up with some miracle surgical replacement for disks and vertebra.

Your living room should work...you don't need a ton of space. You need a yoga mat and very light hand weights. If your space can fit a yoga mat, you can do this workout. =)

Do you need a lot of space and what kind of equipment do you need to do the 30 day shred at home?

So far, the 30 Day Shred is AWESOME! This along with watching my calorie intake has kick-started the changes in my body that I've been wanting to see. My arms and legs are stronger, and my waist has slimmed down. Just starting Level 3 today ~ YIKES!

I LOVE the 30 Day Shred! It totally kicks my butt! The first time I tried the video, I could barely keep up!
It does get a bit easier the more you do it.... but it NEVER gets easy!!!

PHRANKIE - Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is available at Target Stores - probably Walmart as well. I know Target had it - along with several other exercise DVD's - on sale for $13.00, don't remember if the sale is this week, it could have been last week.
I have a question about metabolism too: Do you have to bring your heart rate up to a certain level when doing cardio to make it beneficial (i.e. to help weight loss)? I try to switch up my cardio activities so I don't get bored, but my heart rate is so much lower when I do the stair master compared to when I run. Any advice would be great!
p.s. I just did the ab workout video - and wow, if you slow the workout down it's a really tough!

I also recommend dropping the usual weight you're working with- 1-5 lbs should get your heart pumping without leaving you too exhausted.
I needed to stay on Level 1 a little longer to build up my endurance and am now switching daily between L1/L2 so I don't get worn out. In another week or so, I'll switch over to 2 entirely- just work at your own pace!

Just lower the weight you are working with. I usually do Turbo Jam with 10 lbs weights in each arm. I started 30 Day Shred with 10, dropped immediately to 5 and ended up at 3 for a little while. =)
I am now using 5...on level 2 and it is just the right level of difficulty for me.

From what I've been reading on these threads... yes you can. Its seems like the Sparkpeople Bootcamp is the guideline in case you don't have access to other info, but you can substitute equal cardio of your choosing. That was my interpetation...

You can find information about it online without any problem. It is one of Jillian Michaels' videos. (Info is available on Amazon and on her website) I was wondering if we can count it as our cardio during this bootcamp. Any thoughts?

I'm wondering what it's like when my metabolism gets a boost. I'm kicking my butt doing 30 day shred and it is not easy. The last 2-3 days, I can not keep cool. I feel like I just got done working out all day long, like my body's burning calories.
