i have heard good things about them! If anyone is interested I have a personal trainer that does Pilates on a reformer at her house. She is WONDERFUL!! The price is very reasonable. If you have never done pilates on a reformer it is so relaxing, but really challenging at the same time. Hard to explain. But you feel it the next day for sure. Message me for more information!!

There is a small bike shop, or was, near where there used to be an excellent bike shop. It is run by a former employee of the old bike shop. It is on Telephone Road/Texas 35, north of Highway 518 and south of Beltway 8. Cody's bike shop, I think is the name of the place. I don't know about Cody's bike fitting skills. It is small and the repair bay has folks who are more into disk golfing than bikes working there. I am afraid that the closest "good" bike shop is going to be Bike Barn in Clear Lake.

Teri, I am excited that we both love to ride. And the knowledge you can share with me. I'm really afraid though to be on the road. These people are crazy around here!! We have a park not too far from me, with a great road, so while my BF is running the hills I bike up and down the road, almost 2 miles each time. So if I get 5 laps in and then home I'm at 10 miles. When I outgrow this bike as far as wanting more...then I'm going to get professionally fit for one. Is there a good bike shop in Pearland? There aren't any down here anymore!

Ug. I didn't get on the bike last week. Worked this weekend and am so dang tired! Talked about cycling a bit. Today will be a recovery day from this weekend, and tomorrow's booked with my other job, but I'll go revisit the schedule. Sure would be good to at least get on the trainer for a half hour or so today.

Sure am proud that you are doing so well! I'm using your experience as a motivator! Do spend the effort (and money if a stem extension or some other device is needed) to get a good fit. The hardest part of being on the bike for more than an hour is being on the bike! It will never be as comfortable as an easy chair, but it is very dangerous to hips, knees and shoulders to be be too far out of the "proper alignment" range too!

I think I've missed the train on training for these two rides. I need to first get on the bike and THEN look for rides I can do. Once I'm back to doing 25 to 30 miles at a time, THEN I can set a big goal of a two day 80 miles each day ride.

Teri

I just started riding my bike, but don't think I am up for a 60 mile ride yet. I have a not so great $150 bike from academy. Still trying to get adjusted on it. It's only been about 3 weeks since I have been riding. Am up to 10 or so miles when I do. But those sound way cool. Might have to make that a goal for next year!!!

No kidding Terri! the Ponchartrain sauce at Red Snapper!! A days worth of calories for sure. I do best when I cook at home. Sometimes it even tastes good. ;)

I am contemplating getting back on the bike.

Any other bicyclists on Brazoria County Spark?

There is a ride in October in Palacios a friend is already signed up for, and if I could do 62 miles by then, I might as well ride the Bike Around the Bay, Galveston Bay ride that does a large part of my old birding loop the following week. The Galveston ride is a two day ride with over 70 miles each day. There are no hills of course, but plenty of bridges.

I'll begin training with my bike on a trainer in my little room upstairs here in the house. With the AC cranked low and the fan blowing.

Think I'll see how today goes before signing up for either of the rides, but sure would like to have something to train for. And would love to have a Sparker to train with!

Teri...blue water highway is open now all the way! I like your loop. Red Snapper is great! We used to eat there all the time. Not so much now...I just don't eat out like i used to now that I'm eating healthy! Too many temptations!

Oh PewterBunny! Do we ever have wildlife refuges! Somehow I missed seeing your post on this in early June (and then slipped off the SP wagon for a few weeks).

We have Brazoria National Wildlife refuge, Big Boggy National Wildlife refuge and San Bernard Wildlife refuge. All of these are in (or very near) southern Brazoria County. A bit farther from southern Brazoria county (or northern Brazoria County for that matter) but one that is fun to visit is Anahuac National Wildlife refuge, east of Houston. In the springtime when the birds are migrating, I'll take a day off and head out over to Anahuac for sunrise, see what was in the trees overnight there, go to High Island on the northern Bolivar peninsula and see what flies into that "sky island" and then stop at the mudflats on southern Bolivar peninsula for shore birds. Over the ferry there is lunch in Galveston with plenty of birdy places to look, and home is over the Blue Water Highway to Surfside with stops in Brazoria NWR if there is daylight left finally to head north on 288 to home. A great day on this circuit would have included dinner at the Red Snapper inn on the Blue Water Highway.

I've not made that loop since Ike primarily because I've not know if CR 257 (the Blue Water Highway) was drivable.

Do go to Brazos Bend State park for sure. And it is very nice in the fall. There are many, many ducks and birds that winter there. And the gaters are mostly underwater in the cooler temps.

We'll need to get some Brazoria County Sparkers field trips going in the fall.

We have wildlife refuge nearby? Gotta look into that when it cools off. Also, I'm ashamed to admit I've never been to Brazos Bend park. I'm game for when the cool fronts come back. I don't do summer outside unless it's at the beach or pool.

I love yoga too. But havn't tried it in a class yet. Not sure I am ready for that. I have been doing it every morning off of a show I dvr and I just love starting my day off like that. But just read there is a new club in LJ that is for women only and they have yoga. I might have to go check it out. I was thinking too, that after summer since it is sooooo hot already, we could do a meet thing mabye at Brazos Bend and walk or something. Or participate in a 5k later in the year.

Sundance studio for yoga (Pearland studio usually but I'll go to Friendswood for something special). Primarily though I work out at home on the treadmill or yoga or bike on the trainer. I used to ride my bicycle with the Pearland Cycling Club and may try to get back into that habit on weekends. Anyone else ride with them?
When I can, or when I think of it, I'll go down to Brazos Bend State Park and walk the trails. I've taken my bike to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge once too and saw birds in a way I'd never seen before.
Anyone joining the Pearland Natatorium? There are signs advertising memberships just outside my neighborhood.

I actually just work out at home...sometimes walking down the road too. But we have set up the house to be a pretty good gym. I do yoga in the mornings before work and then some form of cardio at night.

I know some people on here belong to local gyms, while others just have certain parks or trails they prefer. Where do you go workout?

For me I belong to Powerhouse Gym, we have a few parks I like to walk down to (when it's not so boiling outside). If any other "losers" belong to the same gym (or anywhere else for that matter) and would like to work out sometime let me know, I'm all for having someone else to push me :-)
