If it is those big fat green horn worms soapy water just won't work, the only way I could get rid of those guys is to pick them off and squish them. Careful about squishing them into soft ground they won't squish, and don't squish 2 with one rock, I had worm guts all over my legs.

I swear last year they had me figured out, all the years I have been gardening they would stay still while I pulled them off, trying to act like part of the plant, well last year they started squirming around on me when I was pulling them off which so grossed me out. I had to use a trowel and a container. Then I was so squeamish that I had to get my son to squish them.

I was just hanging out in the BBB team and decided to vent that the catepillars are eating my tomatoes in my first garden!
Well, I am trying a soap water. I hope it works.

I am like you Sloloser, I want to grow berries but they don't work out for me.

I started my indoor plants just about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and I should be planting next weekend. Opps. Just wasn't as motivated this year. As I was trying to keep myself motivated to exercise, everything else went out the window.

My tomatoes came up (rainbow and roma), same with the watermelon, but not the peppers.

Wow! It sounds like you are quite the gardener, Carol!

Are strawberries difficult to grow?
Can I plant them this year and harvest them this year?

I seem to remember reading somewhere about planting them one year, and moving them the next... it sounded complicated.

I would love to grow blueberries, but I got discouraged just reading about it. (I read that you really should buy land that already has blueberries on it!) So far we have been sticking to veggies and herbs, but I would love to grow some berries.

I am planning on tomatoes, bell peppers, basil, and parsley this year. We signed up for a biweekly share of a local CSA so just want to try gardening a bit on our own this year to see if it is a go since we killed the tomato plant and pepper plant we had one year.

I was given a gift card for my birthday to start a herb garden this year but the weather has been terrible so I haven't even started yet. Wont grow veggies here because I can guarantee they will get stolen before I even see them. I soooo want to move.

What a difference our location makes! Here some of us our planning ahead to plant the end of next month, and others are already bringing in the harvest!

I think we really do need to cook or blanche the veggies before we freeze them.

We just lost the last of our snow this past week, but I think we will till the soil soon. My husband says it's easier to do if you do it before the weeds start growing. (But then I guess we will still need to weed it!)

We always grow some tomatoes. We buy the plant though. We dont' start them from seed in the house. We also grow cukes and zucchini and herbs. I'm not sure what else.

I planted early risking late frost, I figured I would just use styro foam cups to cover in the event of a light freeze. I am already harvesting cucumbers, and zucchini squash since Saturday. Does any one know if I can just dice up squash and freeze without blanching. I looked up info on internet and most articles mentioned blanching for 3 minutes and dropping in cold water to stop cooking process. I may try a couple and then thaw out and see how it cookes. Anyone with suggestions?

Not this year. Since we are total failures at veggies, we decided to participate in a Share program from a local farm which will be delivered weekly. Fresh fruit too. Can't wait for it to begin next week.

Dear Lord, set my sights on You and Your great attributes. Help me to live in Your presence, dependent on Your guidance each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I hope to plant a garden this year, but I know nothing about gardening. I'm pretty nervous about doing it!

It's getting to be that time of year again.

Do you have any plans to grow a vegetable garden this year?
What will you plant? When? How?
