found frozen (individually wrapped) Talapia at Walmart for less than 10 bucks... let me tell you, it's as if Jesus was dividin' the fishes and the loaves all over again... this is enough fish to feed a small army, and it's delicious (especially with the spark parmesan encrusted talapia recipe!)...

I bought my first Chritmas Gift. Axe gift sets were on sale for 5.00 and I had a 1.50 coupons. So, one of my teenage nephews will get one of the things he likes. Teenager are so hard to buy for. Love coupons. If you ever need to unload some Axe coupons let me know. My husband uses this product too! mcdonald@usa.net

Well, I guess one of the secrets to battling the bulge on a budget is not to buy items you tend to pig out on in bulk! Not unless it is something really low calorie like tomatoes. I really think it must be impossible to eat too many plain tomatoes!

This is actually an awesome buy from a couple of weeks ago, but when visiting my mother we noticed that fruit was more expensive where she lives than around here, but that dairy products were cheaper. Guess what we bought?
You got it! Cheese. We are still eating cheese that we bought a couple of weeks ago.

Actually, I don't plan to play tennis in my tennis shoes! I will use them for walking.
If I were to play tennis, I would wear shorts or pants, not a tennis dress. However, I haven't played tennis in ages. I'd love to play badmitton, but I am having trouble finding anyone to play with me!
My daughter and I have decided to sign up for Aquafit this fall. I will have to see if I have a swimsuit that fits! If not, it's off to the end of season sales for me.

And while we're on the subject, explain this to me about tennis dresses: why are they so freaking short??? I wouldn't dare lean forward to lob a good one, because I'd be flashing my granny skivvies to the world!
Yeah, yeah, I know, off-topic. I'll shut up now.

Consignment store Gloria Vanderbilt jeans for $7.00. And they're like new! I'll tell you, while I'm losing weight, I won't shop anywhere else. And I may just continue shopping there when I reach my goal weight, because it's all high end stuff!

My husband hit the jackpot at a local store yesterday. He saw they were putting stuff out on clearance, so he waited a few minutes and was able to get an incredible amount of produce. Five pounds of bananas for $1. About the same for grapes too!

I've always saved a bundle with the Archer Farm brands at Target. Of course, I'm a mite PO'd at Target right now, so it looks like I'm going to spend a little more for awhile. Principles can cost. But the price is worth it.

Store brand string cheese (I buy Fit & Active from Aldi) and apples. I constantly, constantly crave protein and I'm almost never full. An apple and string cheese really takes the edge off for me and makes it easy to concentrate on my day and not my grumbling belly. Also, string cheese and apple and hour before my workout gives me plenty of pep to get through it without making me feel like I'm hauling around a gut full of lard.

I work a CVS and I'm always the first to know about awesome deals.I've had to stop buying them though because I just have too much stuff.I have everything I need. Boxes of bath stuff, and tons of laundry detergent.I have to remember to look in my boxes before I go out and buy something I already have.

Get me started on my husband! He doesn't throw a thing away. Ever. I swear he's got to have a Nehru jacket hanging in the back of his closet somewhere.

I agree about the downsizing that is what I am trying to do, it seems to help to get rid of the junk in the trunk also!!! My husband feels the need to hang onto everything and it drives me crazy so I told him that we have a 5 year plan to move, so not to bring anything more into this property!!

When I think of all the junk I've accumulated over the years that I just had to have once upon a time, I cringe. And no, it's not hoarder qualifying, but still, I just have TOO MUCH STUFF that I really don't have much use for. It's just there, reminding me that compulsiveness generally applies more more than just one aspect of life.
One of my goals is to simplify. I'm selling things, giving things away, and throwing things out right and left. I've already restructured my finances. And, everytime the "load" lightens, so does my spirit.
We can wind up enslaved by the very lifestyles we thought so much that we wanted. We work so hard to achieve them, and then we have to continue slogging for the rest of our lives to maintain them, and there's no time left to just enjoy ourselves.
/soapbox. Gotta go to work!

I didn't buy a new purse today. And that's the whole point. I intentionally stopped at Kohl's on my way home from work, and was halfway to the register when I thought to myself, I don't need this, I've got plenty of purses at home. So I dropped the purse on the nearest counter, and tore out of there like I was on fire. Save myself over thirty bucks!

At our house we have spaghetti practically every day! LOL
Not me, but my 2 twenty-something sons. One of them will cook a whole package, eat what he wants and put the rest in the fridge to be eaten later. The other one makes the sauce. He will make a huge batch that should last a week, but seems to last merely days.
I will say that once the sauce is cooked, it is a fairly cheap and easy meal. I say fairly cheap, because they do use an awful lot of grated cheese. They just pour it on. That's not cheap.
PS - I eat pasta too, just not nearly as often as the boys do!

In our house eggs, spaghetti and cheese. We usually have spaghetti every two weeks. Sometimes I will make grilled cheese and tomato soup... another really cheap meal. Another really cheap meal in our house is noodles, cottage cheese with a browned onion. We aren't crazy about beans unless it's baked beans. LOL

My husband doesn't like beans either, which is a bummer cause they are cheap and full of nutrients. On my value lists are: oats, brown rice (all in bulk at Winco), watermelon in season, and eggs.
My new mantra: A body in motion tends to stay in motion; A body at rest tends to stay at rest.
I do the exact same thing. Strawberries and blueberries and occasionally bananas. Haven't tried anything else yet.
I almost forgot cherries. Not cheap, but we do pick them every August. Eat as many as we can and freeze the rest!

I don't know how much value this is, but when fruit is in season blueberries, strawberries etc. When I bring them home I wash them, freeze in a single layer and then put in Zip Lock bags. Then I have fruit when prices are high.

Another vote for lentils here. You can use them in soups, salads, or my favorite: curried lentils and rice. Yum.

I have finally convinced DH to make chili by replacing half the meat with mushrooms. He entered a chili cookoff at work, and WON. Now he had to bring chili whenever there is a meal.

Beans aren't everyone's favorite. However, a lot of men like chili! Does your husband like chili?
There are lots of chili recipes! Some contain quite a bit of meat, but you can cut back on the meat and add more veggies.
My husband also loves 9 bean soup. It doesn't always have 9 different kinds of beans. We just mix whatever small beans or lentils we have on hand: split peas, lentils of various colors, small red kidney beans, small white beans...

Eggs are great!
Hardboiled, scrambled, in omelettes...even microwaved! (Although not everyone would agree.)
Beans and lentils are another awesome value. Cheap and full of protein. If you buy dry beans they may take awhile to cook. (Although they don't require a lot of attention while cooking.)

I think eggs are an awesome value buy! They are so versatile and cheap to buy. I love taking a hard boiled egg for a snack to work or having eggs for breakfast, it's good for binding when you cook more elaborate meals...possibilities are endless!!
Not to mention a good source of protein!!!
