I agree with the housework , I HAVE to go up and down the stairs a lot, so I was thinking about that being exercise. I go up to the 3RD floor to get a big hamper full of clothes, THEN back down w/ it, to the second, then down to the technically first floor, the basement, to do the clothes, and so on and so forth...I buy socks and underwear in bulk, and any food I can, like canned goods that keep,or meat that I FREEZE, don't eat fresh produce FAST enough to buy that in bulk, so to me that's a waste of money. Thanks for replying to my topic. Continued luck to you!

I save money on socks by buying packs of socks. Buy half a dozen pairs of socks all the same, and if you lose 2 socks you still have 5 pairs. Buy half a dozen different kinds and if you lose 2 socks, you will probably have only 4 pairs!

(Likewise when they start wearing out.)

"Do others wish you could count housework as exercise here?"

Well, some things you can: gardening, shoveling snow, raking the lawn, mowing the lawn, heavy cleaning...

Others like washing the dishes or doing the laundry don't count. (It makes sense. I have never broken a sweat hanging up the laundry, unless it was the pure heat.)

emoticon It was super-packed!

Here's a dining out tip from a neighbor:

If you want to go out to eat, consider going out for breakfast. It's cheaper! (Although you won't get a steak dinner.)

Or... you can order breakfast at lunch time at some places.

Glad you like my topic choice,Hope others share in your opinion!I recently "splurged " and spent $22 dollars on a haircut after doing my own hair cuts and color for ...YEARS! I needed some more style and flair to my hair then I could manage on my own.But next time will travel to the mall about 40 min. away, and get a cheaper cut, even figuring in the cost of gas.I like spending time on SP and Myfitnesspal.I enjoy figuring out easy, low cost ,ways to fit in as much exercise a day I can. My daughter and I like strolling thru town, window shopping ,and as I go along picking up the house, I add squats, lunges , arm and ab exercises along the way.I have been checking out more exercise on line here, and other sites, and will look into the library, for dvds, for exercise and movies. My mom gets Netflix, so that helps with the movie budget. As does buying movie treats at the Dollar store.AND family members take and treat the kids to their movies sometimes.I save my cans and bottles, as we get 5 cent deposit, her in MA. and that helps treat me to a coffee drink, or a small beauty item, once I save them up for few weeks.I buy stuff on sale as much as possible, saved almost 45 %($ 63 )on my food bill this week and stocked up on meat,so that saves in the long run on food bills.I have a great mom. and she helps with babysitting once a week,(Fridays most weeks), and takes the kids over night, which saves me the cost of a babysitter, and my hubby and I can spend time together. She's such a source of support to me and is monumentally appreciated! She helped as well as my mom in law ,to send the kids to camp this summer. I know that I am supremely lucky to have such wonderful people in my life and I thank GOD for them on a daily basis!Whatever you enjoy doing ,and helps you decompress IS entertainment. I enjoy writing, in my journal and blogs, it's a release. When I buy groceries, I GET 10 cents off per gallon of gas for each $50 I spend, @PRICE CHOPPER.I have an idea! Might not be new to others, but I just had an inspiration. !I don't know if others can relate to this, but sometimes I receive multiples of certain items for my b-day or Christmas, various toiletry items, or beauty items. I take these and give them to others through out other times of the year in gift bags.We could expand on this idea, and if we have extras of food , beauty, or clothing items, we could regift them .( as long as you remember who gave them and don't give it back to the same person)!Give them to the local pantry, or clothing bank, or to others in need of a pick me up that a
'new" outfit or a gift bag of beauty booty would do a world of good!and will be cleaning out your house of unwanted( clutttering )stuff, that isn't being used, and just taking up precious space. We all like to feel good and look as nice as possible. We also could find others in our community who have similar finance issues, and swap clothes and beauty items, or services we may be particularly good at, like hair, facials,or nails or how to make use of your existing clothes to put together fresh looks. If space is an issue, have the get together at a local park , or community center.I'm sorry for the rant,BUT today I feel inspired! A good thing ,since I have to dig out from under a virtual mountain of clothes! But I'll be sure to fit in a GOOD walk with my daughter,as it's too nice a day, to just sit indoors!Do others wish you could count housework as exercise here? Because some days, that seems to be about all I can fit in besides"running" errands!HEE HEE!

Entertainment...

... I'm easy to entertain. Just give me a book! I borrow them from the library.

This time of year I also love riding my bike. That entertains me and helps get me fit.

I could (and often do!) spend hours on SP.

There's a wealth of stuff on the Internet too. Things to learn. Things to do. Online chess. (I just don't have enough time!)

My job is entertaining. (I work with children in a library.)

During the school year, I also work as a volunteer with children at my church.

... I'm thinking my idea of entertainment is probably not conventional...

... TV is free
... some library loan DVD's for free

Great topic!

We could also look at alternatives for specific high cost items...

Hair/Haircuts - I must admit I should get mine done more often!!!
I even know a good cheap place. (They sent flyers, I got brave and tried them. I like them better than a place that charged more than double. Cheap places don't always work. I tried another, recommended by a friend and did not like it.) Ask people you know for recommendations.

Particularly if...
...you think it might be a reasonable place...
... and you like their hair!!!

I also don't color my hair.

Clothes...
I look for sidewalk sales. (I had a lot more success with this last summer than this one. Stores don't seem to be willing to take such big losses this year.) I got some really terrific deals last summer. Really nice stuff for $4 each.

I would love to do a clothing swap, but it's difficult to manage. Sometimes people give me clothes that no longer fit them. Sometimes I give other people clothes.
