What is the difference between them? I thought stabilized was where it wasn't progressing?
I'm glad you got a good gas stove.

Carol I love babies too, but like you say once they can move they don't want cuddling all that much any more. I'm glad to hear you made a good start on the DVDs, it'll just get better from here on!

I'm back from my stomach surgery yesterday. Had some trouble getting oxygen into my lungs after the anaesthesia, and it didn't want to wear off so they kept me over night but I'm doing pretty good today and home. Still sore but thats to be expected. At least I found out I lost back the five pounds I seemed to have put on, although I wonder now if I actually did with two Drs scales saying 263 and one in the same week saying 268. Anyway I feel better that I am done with it all now and still am down almost to 100pounds from where I started a few years ago.

Kacey, my cancer can be stabilized, but that is not the same as remission.

I needed to replace my gas stove, and went shopping for a new one yesterday; they delivered it today. Nothing fancy, but I love it! I'm very happy with it and so far, it's helping me to keep my mind off of what my doctor will have to say about my bone scan when I see him next Tuesday.

Have a Wonderful Trip Jane and come back refreshed! Safe Journey emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes I know Cancer is incurable Shari but I meant are you going to be able to go into remission at some point or is it too far a stage for that? Its sad to think of such a terrific courageous person as yourself going thru this! It just doesn't seem fair! I am glad I don't do God's job I couldn't do it right because I know some folks that I could put a cancer on and they would have it coming! S why I wouldn't make a good candidate for the Big Man's job lol emoticon

I will be gone tomorrow as my DH has some routine Heart tests to do and I have to get ready for my stomach operation the next day. This is the final one WooHoo!, well not my final surgery but the final one on my stomach. And out of it the next day for sure. Don't you all give Emmababe and Jeannie and Sandra too much heck while I'm gone okay? Wait for me to get back to do that lol! Have a great weekend everyone!

Kacey, the chemo is just to keep the cancer stablized and to slow down the spread; stage IV breast cancer is not considered curable.

Hey Team mates its TRY IT WEDNESDAY!! Try something new toaday, and exercise move, a recipe planting a new plant in your garden or a new outfit, anything new goes! Drop by the threadt in a bit of this and that and share it with us!

Shari and Jane thats great that you are going without so much painkillers! sounds like you are having a better chemo session this time. Is all this chemo making you better or just keeping the cancer at bay? I don't know much about cancer treatments but I do know it puts you thru a great deal to have to go thru it. emoticon

Jane are you all packed yet? Its almost here! I'll bet you really are looking forward to your vacation! I know I would be to travel and see my friends and see another country. Well not another country for you, but another part of our country. Life must look very different to you here on Mainland States.

I am ingesting less pain killers and applying essential oils to help control pain. I do take pills once in awhile but have really cut back to perhaps once a week when the pain is really bad and will not go away even after trying other things. SparkMail me if you have questions.

I had a pretty good morning and early afternoon. Woke up with less pain than usual; I think the last injections I had for my back and hip maybe are finally kicking in and working. By 1pm, I had the laundry done, my bird feeders filled out in the yard, and my workout done. I was also able to go longer in between pain pills; 6 hours instead of 4-5.

Hello everyone

I was a pretty regular member here until I had hiatal hernia surgery twice in 2011 and then a 4th hip replacement in Oct of 2012. I'm also dealing with Parkinsons which has a side effect of depression. Well I decided I'm going to get back on Spark and get motivated to move so I can get out of the wheel chair and onto the walker and hopefully to using just a cane. i've done the chair exercise cds the past few days and will continue doing them.

Wishing you all a healthy Memorial week end

Thank you for your input. I have to start moving. You are all correct.
I have good intentions but like I said before, between my job and taking care of my mom, I just don't budge. School will be over in 3 weeks and my goal is to take care of me.

I use to be motivated in the past but now I just have to focus on eating right and have come a long way, but I KNOW I have to start moving.

Thanks for your encouragement. emoticon

I know for me, the hardest part is usually just getting started. Once I get going for about 5 minutes, then I feel like I can do it.

It's easier for me to feel motivated during the week. I have been doing the Sit and Be Fit workouts on PBS, and the show comes on at 2:30pm during the week. For some reason, having a set time during the week works for me. But on the weekend, when I have to use my DVDs to exercise, I keep finding excuses to put off getting started, things I feel I "have to" do first. Eventually, I do get to the workout, but usually later in the day than I would have liked too.

Hi MamaFarina
First you are not lazy, you just haven't found your motivation yet. You say you HAVE to exercise. It might be healthier for you to exercise but no one is forcing you. It is your choice alone and no one will force you if you choose not too. What is your motivation to exercise? Is it because some one told you you need to, or have you decided to exercise to get healthier? Whats going on in your self talk about exercise? Is exercise alway like gym class in school with jumping jacks and things that caused pain and embarassment and were too tough for you to do? Or do you think of something you are commited to knowing its healthy for you it will help you lose weight, and it must be done for a long time until you are exhausted and in pain everyday. If this is what's there its no wonder you have no motivation to exercise. Add to that that most fitness programs are based on runners and weight lifters so you may not have a clue how you could ever exercise and it is very overwhelming and the opposite of self motivating.
For me exercise is what I chose to do. I started small with a few steps and like five reps of range of motion exercises totaling 10 minutes. As I met that I found I was eager for trying more and then more and then more. Now I am up to much more than I started out with and I know I can do them I know what I am doing because I look constantly for new videos that I can do. So I have variety in my exercise and I have changed to a place where I feel rotten if I don't get a chance to exercise and my Hubby says I'm cranky on rest days. If you know what you are doing and why and choose exercises that you can do it becomes a self motivator on its own.

There is an exercise I do that may be the same muscles just in different position. You lay on your back and put your feet together then bend your knees outward trying to press them out flat. I have to just put my stump where it would be in line with my leg and go from there. It does work. This exercise sounds like a sideways version of that.

Kacey, I am sorry. I do not get on the floor either and have not for a few years because of my knees and weight. I use the bed for "floor exercises and have for some time. Use to teach kindergarten where I was all over the place showing my students how to do different things.

Shari sounds good that your niece made your flowerbed so nice.
Jane that isn't one I do yet. I have to just figure out a modified way to do it as I don't have two feet to put together in bed, which I would have to use to lay on my side, as I am unable to get down to and up from the floor these days.

Good afternoon!
Weekend is going good so far, nice weather too.
My niece came over and cleaned up one of my flower beds; I have a good sized one in front of my house and it became overgrown with grass and weeds, because with my health issues I haven't been able to keep up on it. She also mowed the lawn for me.

Another exercise you may be doing already is lie on your side with knees folded some and raise upper leg/knee as far as you can while keeping feet together. This should strengthen the inner leg and hip.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Hi all, Was a pain that the site was down yesterday.
Thanks for the advice on hip exercise. I already do the one you mentioned Jane but want to do more for building muscles in them. Have checked with Dr before and PT but he only suggested the same exercise Jane did. There must be some ones for bed or seated out there somewhere . Sadly as much as it would help, water exercise is not available to me. Too rough getting in and out of pool on one leg, it tends to leave abrasions on the foot bottom that is rough with my D2. And I would only have access to pools that are full of people all day, some of which have unhealthy ways and conditions to pass on to the unwary. The hospitals have PT places to use but those are at major hospitals and my Medicaid doesn't cover them. So I will keep searching. There have to be some I can do out there somewhere

Hello Team, first of all I want to say thanks for being such a great team, I appreciate you all, sadly this note is one that is not easy to pen but needs to be done, I am saying good-bye to you today as a team member, at least for now, you may ask me why, I lead 4 teams and need to put my focus back on those Teams I lead. There are not enough hours in the day to divide my time between so many teams and find myself today having to withdraw from some of the teams I participate in. You all will be missed but not forgotten...Thank you for your support and kindness...I cheer you on your journey.. Keep up the great work, you are doing great... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello! Not posted for a wile. I Was able to stay a few day with daughter & family. Wonderful time with all the family! We had a great holiday & cerebration. No computer there so no Spark. Hubby & I put in some more garden as well. When we got home I was so delighted at the birds. My Hubby and I feel it is a kind of birds sanctuary. We have been many places but few have the wonder of so many beautiful birds year round. We are indeed blessed. God is so good. Hope all had a great holiday. I have a praise. My right leg was not working well. Hard time walking but it is much improved. I praise the Lord. I did not stay on my diet as well as I should have but each day is a new beginning. emoticon

For hip exercise might ask Dr. for help with Physical therapy ideals. Water aerobic might be a ideal to run by your Dr. as well. HUGS!

Kacey, lay on your side, keep your leg straight and raise it. That should strengthen your leg muscles and hip muscles. Therapist had me do those on both legs while waiting to get my cast off as I was unable to use a walker or put any weight on the foot that had the cast. The idea was to keep my legs and hip muscles strong so I could walk when the cast came off. I would lie on my bed as getting on the floor is not possible.

Hope this helps.

WTG Jane. If more people held their Dr.s to a high standard of performance if they want to make a living at it, we would have some better practicing physicians.

Hey does anyone know some good hip exercises I can use? I need to build hip muscle and flexibility.

BTW REMINDER: Its TRY IT WEDNESDAY! Still time to try something new for the day.

Normal, I don't think my thyroid has been normal for 20 years. Things were more under control before a doctor decided to change my meds and things spiraled out of control. That was three or four years ago. I fired that doctor and got someone who listens to me not just goes by the numbers.

Shari that is such bittersweet news! I am so glad you got your chemo and your blood counts were good, but its so sad that you have this to go thru without any end in sight or respite from it and what it does to you . emoticon
I don't know much about thyroids Jane. Mine went hyper for a short time then just went back to normal and they took me off the medicine. No problems with it since. But grrrrrrrrrrrr do I know about endos who don't respond! Mine has not responded at all and I am having hypoglycemic attacks almost daily after exercising and taking my evening dose of insulin.
BobBon that was a much lovelier Mother's Day than I had. I am happy for you!!

Jane, I hope they can get your thyroid back to normal again.
I've only been on thyroid meds a little over 2 weeks; I have my lab work in about 4 more weeks to see if it needs to adjusted.

I had my chemo today, good news is that my blood counts were good today.

Trying to get in to see a doctor that I know. My endo's office did not respond so he may be off island. Need to tweak my thyroid medicine because I have become hyper instead of hypo... From what I understand Hashimoto Thyroiditis can cause this fluctuation.

sat the UPS truck bought some Day Lilies from my DDs. DH then gave me a card and a Brown Betty tea pot, SS gave all the women teachers corsages and one of the kids Moms gave us each two flowers to plant in our yards. The sun was shining yesterday for one of the best Mother's Day I've had in while.

Happy Mother's Day!

Not much going on here with me; missed church this morning because I was just hurting too much to get ready to go. I took a pain pill but it didn't start working in time. I think it was the change in weather that aggravated it. We went from 82°F and sunny on Thursday to wind, rain, and even a little snow mixed in for the weekend.

I did get my Sit and Be Fit workout in and that helped with some of the stiffness.

Saw my one family and son at a bbq at their home. My eldest came too. Got a phone call from Houston from my son who is working there now. He left a message as I was out...

I hope that those of you who have grandchildren and a child or children are able to appreciate the day with them. I see my son and my grandson maybe 1x per year it I'm lucky. Sometimes it s two years between visits! I am lucky to get a phone call from my son to say Happy Mothers Day usually, and thats the extent of it. Yet they drive half a state away to spend every holiday with the DIL's Mother, with a celebration meal and time to play with my grandson and presents for her. I asked them to put up some pics of my grandson online so I could at least see how he grows and they don't bother. So I hope all you Grandmothers appreciate how special those celebrations with them are. Happy Mother's Day all

My best friend came over today and helped me with some cleaning. I appreciated it so much; with my pain and fatigue issues I was starting to get a little bit behind.

Bon, I was given pain meds when the cyst showed up on my foot. I was told to take it with food so took it with my breakfast when I have had a night of sleep and often forgot to take it at night... It is supposed to be better than the over the counter meds for the stomach.

Something to think about.

I ended up with vertigo around 8:00 a.m. today so canceled reading at the hospital and stayed home. Had a head ache by afternoon. Tried some essential oils that did seem to help and when my son came home talked him into lightly messaging my neck and shoulders. Feeling better now.

Thank you Kacey; that is my new haircut in my profile pic.

So far, I haven't had the white blood count too low for 2 weeks in a row, so I'm not sure what they would do if it stayed that way for longer than a week.

I was supposed to have chemo today, but my white blood counts were too low, so they will try next week instead.

My best friend took me to get my hair cut today. My hair is fine and straight, and when it gets too long, I can't do anything with it but put it up in a ponytail. I got a few inches cut off; now it just barely touches my shoulders, and I got a few layers in it and side swept bangs, I like it. It looks a lot thicker now.

Then we went to Lowes and I got a couple of hanging baskets for my porch, one is pink and white fuchias and the other is a Calibrachoa, a trailing plant that looks like mini petunias, and they are pink.

Thanks Jane found a site where some of the most FAQ's were answered and it explained it all. I still couldn't tell if this is LaNina or not but I know we did have the last two winters dry and warmer, almost no snow until January this year and they were discussing the Huge ElNino storm from 2004, where we had temperatures in spring here in the 90's. I felt so sorry for my little grandbaby his first two years of life he was in Minnesota where they were having early high temps like we were in Illinois and the mosquitos tried to eat him alive. What a life for a baby to go through so early hunh? Always want to protect them and make everything all right but sometimes they just have to go through stuff to learn how to survive well in the world we have now.

I typed in el nino, el nina but it should have been la nina. We actually had a huricane that started in Hawaii become a typhoon and did damage on Guam a few years back.

Crazy weather.

Hmmm This may be the reason the weather has been so screwy this past two years. Its like the seasons have moved a couple of months forward in the year here. Snow in April and Winter didn't start with snow and all till January. November and December was like an extended Autumn. When you say you googled what exactly did you type in? just the names of the storms or a specific subject/question?

Kacey, the el nino, la nina weather patterns affected the whole Pacific Ocean. Depending on the year the weather was warmer causing storms where there were none for a long time, etc.

I just googled these and found it also affects the weather in the states also!

Shari the demo didn't show any chair activity. How much chair exercise in it is there? I am not yet able to stand for long but maybe its the perfect interim when I get the strength back to do so.
Jane what did ElNino do to the patterns that made Guam be the start of the typhoons instead of Ponpei?

I have found a seated beginners Tai Chi video I think I am going to get to try. The instructor is a well known Tai Chi instructor and a doctor as well. I felt very comfortable with how he taught the first lesson on the You Tube.

Kacey, I have beginner Tai Chii DVD by Scott Cole called Discover Tai Chi for balance and mobility. It's about a half hour workout, and part of it is done in a chair; for the standing parts, you can hold on to the back of the chair for support. I haven't used it in awhile, but it was a good workout for me and not hard to follow. I will send you a Spark email with the link to Amazon so that you can see more what it is about.

I've had pretty good day today; went to church this morning, and shortly after I came home, my niece came over and mowed my lawn for me.

Phonpei is an island group that is part of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is south east of Guam and use to be where a lot of our typhoons started from. In the last 7 or 8 years the storms have started over Guam and gone west. Part of the reason for the high rain levels in Pohnpei is it is where the storms start.

Guam has not had a typhoon in about 7 or 8 years because of the el nino/el nina patterns that has affected much of the Pacific.

Shari its good you got some time outside today. Too bad the wind kicked up!

BonBon how are you holding up? emoticon Keeping you and yours in prayer with this loss! Oh No they had the Derby today? Thats what happens when you stop having the TV on all the time. But you know what I really don't miss it! Although I do like to watch the Triple crown every year. And there is still the Preakness and the Belmont to go. If you saw it tell me who won please.

Jane is Ponpei in Guam? I love water but not like that! Do you get typhoons there?

Hey does anybody do Tai Chi or know much about it? I am looking at it and wondering if it would help me with my balance and being able to stand more. I have Osteo and its supposedly good for that and for keeping the pain down. But I am wondering if it will solve some of the balance problems I have because of my prothetic leg! Any input would be appreciated.

Good afternoon!
Beautiful day here today. I was outside for a little while this morning, but once the wind started to pick up I had to stay indoors, because of my allergies.

the rain held off and so far today we had some sprinkles the weather man said the real rain would start around four and keep on through tomorrow. Hope the horuses at the Derby are good in the mud.

My family moved to Pohnpei when my sons were little. We ended up getting a dryer within days because I washed the clothes, hung them out in beautiful sunny weather but before they got completely dry we would have a deluge. Then the sun would shine again and the clothes would get almost dry and another deluge... By the third day my sons had no clean dry clothes. Pohnpei has well over 200 inches of rain a year. That is about the height of a telephone pole.

Shari that sounds like fun! It would be nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.
If only there were some sunshine. Since January in Chicago we have had exactly six days that were clear and sunny. Otherwise overcast, overcast and snowing or overcast and raining or thunderstorming. My Seasonal Affective Disorder usually only troubles me in the winter but its so bad now I am having to take an extra antidepressant to control it. Boy really crazy weather we're having all around this year. Wonder whats happened to cause all the changes?

My niece and nephew came over today and raked my yard for me and got my outdoor furniture out of the shed. My yard looks so nice now, it still needs mowing but my nephew will do that Sunday. Tomorrow I'll take some cleaner and paper towels outside and clean off the furniture and also put the chair pads on my two metal chairs that match my little patio table.

Rainy season is coming. We had a gray drizzly rainy day. There is a tropical disturbance giving us this rain. grrrr

We have not had a typhoon for many years so if we get one it may be rough...

Thank you Jane.
Her appointment went well; it sounds like it was caught early, and the outlook is good. She's in pretty good health otherwise so that is on her side too. It sounds like this can be managed so that she will stay well for many years yet. She does have some more lab work next month and will have to get a kidney ultrasound just to rule out the possibility of a blockage or stones.

Mom, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. I hope they are able to help her so she can be with you for a long time.

Went to our last board meeting for the IRA this evening. We have one more membership meeting and then summer will be here.

I will be leaving for the states before public school gets out.

We are in the mid 80's here today.

My mom was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. I'm going with her tomorrow when she sees the kidney specialist for the first time. She hasn't had any symptoms other than abnormal lab work, so I am hoping that is good sign that it is treatable and can be kept from getting worse. It's about a 45 minute trip out of town, but the specialist comes to our town a few days per month, so for future visits she won't have to travel so far.

emoticon It's spring! So happy we can remove the coat of winter and smile at the sun. As I read my daily paper, I see all the plans for June weddings, proms and parties. So happy that I have lost enough weight to fit into the new swimsuit. In the past I have always gained weight in the winter, this time thanks to Sparks and all my new friends I have LOST WEIGHT!! emoticon emoticon

Lord, bless my diet buddies and help me met my 2014 weight goals of 60 pounds.

Saw your post in GFC Jane and posted there too.

No Sandra that I know of no one celebrates May Day anymore. Though I believe some small towns in England still do a little Maypole dancing with festivities in costume and decorations and all.

I started a new thread and posted what is below on the Grandmother's Fitness Club. emoticon

When I was a little girl we use to pick small bouquets of flowers and take them to the homes of the elderly or widows placing them on the door step, knock at the door and then run and hide and watch the person's reaction when they came to the door.

Did you have anything special that you did? Have you passed it on to your children and grands?

It is already May 1st here on Guam and in Australia.
