EB, Natural remedies are just as potent as other medications. Your doctor should be concerned. Not that he would admit it, but because he does not know anything about homeopathic remedies. If you prefer going a more natural route, you might look for a homeopathic doctor. However, my suggestion would be to carefully check credentials, and try finding someone who is knowledgeable in both traditional and natural medicine.
I will give you an example from my experience which had made me cautious. I am on several medications, and one evening I drank some herbal tea. All night I felt like I had been drugged by a opium or something. I traced the ingredient, an innocent item such as hackberry. A simple relative of mulberry. What I found during my research is it enhanced one of the drugs,
I was taking.
To conclude, if you choose natural remedies, they can be very effective. I would simply encourage you to have, as much information as possible. emoticon

I've wanted to try some natural remedies, but I'm afraid that they will interact with the meds the doctor has me on. And every time I mention them to my doctor, he gives me the evil eye! Any suggestions???

DANMAR1,
Interesting article. Natural remedies work well. However, just like traditional or synthetic medicines they must be used with care.
Thank you for sharing! emoticon

I want to share an article someone on another team shared about 8 natural pain relievers.

Ann it mentions the creme Arnica you mention for bruises. We will look for that at our drug store. Thanks. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26136767/ns/hea

I so agree!!! I just got off 13 months of driving from Nebraska to Maine (4 times) to take care of my Mom and step-dad. It was definitely hard, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. The only reason I came home was because I had to.... I developed an infection in my foot and I couldn't help anymore!

I have to admit, though, that I'm glad I'm home. I've had to take this last month to take care of me!. Still working on my house! LOL! That'll teach me to leave hubby alone with 4 cats!!!

Hi, everyone! I'm Beverly (or EB as I'm know on other teams)! Glad to be here! I'm looking forward to getting to know you!

We were planning on going to Ohio for Ken to go fishing and for me to visit with my sister and BIL. However Ken got involved in making a step for our elderly neighbors this morning and the day just kind of got away from us. They are excited about the step as it makes it easier for them to get in and out of their house even though it is only a couple of inches high. When I am 84 plus I hope someone is thoughtful of me like that. It sure beats them falling and getting hurt just coming out of their house. There are very special neighbors and just the neatest people!!! We love them dearly. We will probably get up and go to Ohio in the morning. Ken thinks it is just a tad late to go now. Nothing like taking each day as it comes and going with the flow.
Have a wonderful Saturday and a blessed Sunday!!!

I am hoping for a peaceful day in which I can spend cleaning and getting rid of the pre-winter bug infestation. This means "mess". However, when all is said and done I will certainly have gotten a bit of activity, and my environment will be much more pleasant.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and healthy weekend!

Gini,
I hope you were able to get your viedeo! I had a conversation about it with my significant other who has worked 23 years on computers. Wish I wouldn't have started that one. (lol!)
What type of internet do you have, they run through different relay stations like cell phones, and sometimes they are re-routed.
Good luck!

Gini,
Trying to see what was going on you got me moving in my chair! It was an aerobic march, and so fun, I just got into it!
I am not a very good trouble shooter. There are others better than I. However, when I have difficulty with streaming videos it was usually the internet connection. Either I had one too slow,
or if I was connected by way of satellite, changes in position, weather conditions or other things might interrupt the signal.
I do hope you get the answers you need. I really enjoyed my unplanned Exercise!
Best wishes

Hi, I am Gini. I am fairly new to this team but have been a member previously. At that time I did not take advantage of this team tools.

Now I want to start doing some exercises but when I go to the exercises and start a video it runs for a little and then stops. I have tried more than 1 video. I assume I am doing something wrong. I would appreciate any help you can give me to get me going.

Many thanks,

Gini

It can all be a bit confusing at the start - but once you have it sussed its easy - it becomes habit entering each day, but great to heat you are getting serious - unfortunately nothing worth having comes without working for it - but the gains are well worth the effort!!
Also once you have the foods and exercises you do regularly entered as favourites on the trackers that makes things easy - there will be times you will change both foods and exercise - indeed variety is important - but you will find it so much easier with the basics entered - and faster too!!
I have put tracker instructions (exercise and nutrition) on the web site as a brochure you can download - if you need extra help.

Unfortunately blackberries are a noxious weed in the state where I live - so there are no fresh ones available - and I love blackberries!! But we can buy canned or frozen (expensive)- but with all the other fresh fruits about we tend to keep to those rather than the canned or frozen.

CRISSYP4 - As you input your extra activity into your exercise tracker - if you go over your targets by much at the end of the week- you will get a red message at the bottom of that exercise tracker telling you to change your targets If you continually do not change them and go over every week - the site will do so for you!!
That is why it is so important to work both trackers (Exercise and nutrition) together - then the whole program remains balanced. If you only fill in one tracker and ignore the other you are not providing enough information for the program to be fully balanced and give you the best chance of losing weight in the healthiest way!!

Christie, that is a very good question. As you lose weight, it is necessary also to increase your activity level. emoticon As you input your new goals your trackers will automatically change to the calorie level best for you.
I think you might be interested in the information the Community Boards provide on this subject.
Simply click on the Community tab at the top of the page. Scroll down until you see message boards and click on that. There will be several boxes from which to choose. Select diet and nutrition. There will be many topics discussed by team members. Simply type in the search box something like tracker change with weight loss. There are many discussions on this important topic.
I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I would like to share with you a portion of my day. This is the part that involves going to Red
Lobster. The all you can eat shrimp was ordered. This isn't the best way for me to get my meals in because I don't eat large amounts at one time. I regress. I am able to pat myself on the back for once, for making good choices when I would much rather have something else.
I ate my shrimp skewers plain, ordered broccoli instead of my beloved potatoes. Skipped the rice, and ate very little dressing. Naturally, it took me above my calorie level for that meal, but that has been remedied by a later snack. All in all I count this as a success.
I am curious, how others handle eating out.

You are so lucky to have all that wonderful produce! It is extremely hot and dry here now, and the gardens and crops are not producing so well. The items in the supermarket are of much better quality and taste, but they are very pricey. The same is true of the Farmer's Markets.
We found a good one, but they have had to change location.
Strange things do occur, I will conclude, My uncle had a nice crop of tomatoes in his garden, just perfect! I was so looking forward to one or two at least. It is a family garden and we have traditionally shared. Anyway, we were shocked to find every single tomato gone! We were struck by the tomato bandit.! Now I must wait a year, and you can count on the fact I will get one as soon as they ripen!

we have apples, pears, kiwis, pineapple, cantaloup, watermelon, bananas, oranges, tangerines in plentiful supply at present
Its because its too hot in summer to grow some of these fruits especially strawberries
In summer we have the usual summer fruits - plums, grapes, peaches, etc - but lots of tropical fruits - mangos , pineapples, melons, etc
So you can see - we have heaps of choice - I even saw green grapes from USA in the shop yesterday - $4.90kg (2.2lb)

Your right, lol. I wonder how that works. Are Strawberries the only thing that grows "out of season"?

I notice that no-one has realized that its the middle of winter down here and yet its the strawberry season - I bet you don't have your peek strawberry season in mid winter - but then we are different!!

emoticon Fresh strawberries are one of my favorite fruits! I can eat many at a time by the handful! emoticon They are extremely versatile and it only takes a little thought of ways to use them. Nutritious and Delicious-can't beat that one! emoticon

Ladies - I love to hear your weather - its interesting since you are in the Northern hemisphere - and we are your opposite - but surely there are other things happening in day to day life to talk about as well - or maybe not!!
We do actually have a weather thread

Just up the road from me is a strawberry farm - its peek season here - and their power went off and he had his cold rooms full ready for the truck to market - so being good neighbours we offered to help - and took the generator over - but then he had a heap of seconds (different shapes, smaller or larger than the market desires, so they ended up in our spare fridge - good job we like strawberries!! emoticon Guess what we have been eating this week for our fruit!! LOL!! emoticon

After raining the entire day yesterday the sun is out, but it is a bit chilly for my taste. I am hoping it will warm soon. However, the prediction is for it to remain this way for a bit. emoticon

I was looking for the 5 Day Progressive Challenge - I have participated previously and really enjoyed it, just wondering if you are planning to continue this session, here's hoping you are. There doesn't seem to be a new one posted after the end of June...Perhaps I've missed it, if I have can you point me on the right direction, thanks. I just want you to know how much I enjoyed this one. Thanks Ann for all your hard work here in providing these exercises for us..As you most likely know I exercise every day, and always a mix of Strength and Cardio wheelchair aerobics...My sessions run between 30 and 35 minutes per day, occasionally 40 minutes. Let's emoticon Together...

The Tudor talk I did at the Arthrits club was well received and they want me to do another one on another era. The way the room was set out with scattered tables and chairs ment I had to stand to do the talk so everyone could see and hear. I am not good at standing for so long. I was lay down then all evening at home feeling so tired and aching. Then when I went to bed I couldn't sleep. I shall have to consider carefully if I can continue on public speaking. I enjoy it but it wears me out now, Irene
