We grow herbs in the summer, they take very little room so it's pretty easy. I also dry them at the end of the season - hang them upside down inside a paper bag (like a lunch sack) in a dry place - I usually us the basment. Then I put them in little glass jars.

We don't use a lot things like Mrs. Dash becuase I never know which ones are full of non-natuaral ingredients.

Just expirment and make your own blend.

Add fresh tarragon to chichen salad. It's very good. I also use basil, rosemary, parsley, cherval & tryme. I grow them myself & use them fresh. I dry them for winter sotrage.

My wife teaches in a college 4.5 hours away so we visit on weekends and I am having to relearn my way around the kitchen as regards "regular fare". Thanks for all these ideas and information.

I just want to add... some fresh mint, parsley & coriander (cilantro). These grow great in containers in the yard or a room with plenty of sun.

I'll also use squeeze of fresh lemon, lime, and even oranges. Don't forget to use the "zests" for stronger flavors. Dashes of all kinds of vinegar too!

I very rarely buy fresh herbs and spices because I do not know how to store them...I do buy garlic, but forget to use it...I never buy fresh basil or parsley...I don't know how to store them.

I do use cinnamon but not fresh...usually ground cinnamon in everything from oatmeal to cooked veggies...I love to put cinnamon on baked yams...Cinnamon is good for diabetes control.

I would like to learn how to use other herbs and spices; esp. those good for heart and blood circulation.
