Dale, no, I don't have an iPhone or a Mac. I have an iPad, but I use it for displaying recipes while cooking.

Hey there KATE, aka Nancy Drew,

Do you happen to own iPhone and/or iMac?

While Maryland weather has been pretty fabulous for us with lower temps and less humidity,
I gratefully go outside to walk most every day.

But I have to build back up to longer walks and faster paces. I'm worn out from too much stress I can't problem solve. That said however, I'm off next to go through all the medical bill reminders...

KATE,
Somehow, by putting the request for help out to you, I accidentally came upon the culprit glitch and eradicated it. Total mystery since it happened too quickly for me to register what steps occurred, but I wound up somewhere on this site that held the magic key. Thanks for responding to my plea.

Here's a new complication: now that all spark team communication comes through my regular emails, so do the darn WALL posts, which amount to an out of control number of daily emails. I want to keep up with threads but not every hello every single person puts out there.

.........
Other than considering taking the email contact now off of everything, I must focus on my health. I walked yesterday but missed the pocket of ideal weather of the day. Today is too hot for me. I'll have to walk the mall or a gym.

later,

Dale,

Hi, I just read this thread. As for your SparkMail, have you added the Sender to your Contacts List? I have mine routed to a special folder -- then I have to look for said folder, but at least all the SP mail is together.

I've gone through all the list of threads that show I still subscribe ...but get nothing anyway.

has anyone else found this complication?

I've had my Fitbit One for a year now and I love it as well. I agree that this cold weather is impacting the number of steps I take as well. I'm not a big fan of cold weather so I'm an indoor person in the winter. I am a member of Planet Fitness in Waldorf and am looking to find a workout partner to go to the gym with. Someone to keep me motivated and who I can keep motivated.

I've had my FitBit for about 4 months and I love it. But it has become painfully obvious to me that this cold weather we've been having has really adversely impacted the number of steps I take each day. I just need to bundle up and get out there!

Passionate Tiger, what kind of Fitbit do you have? On mine, there's a tiny spot on the back that you can insert a pin or something tiny like that and hold for a few seconds to reset it.

Mine had done similar things to yours, including not tracking at all. I think they all have a spot like that somewhere on them.

Of course there are days I cannot walk, but each possible one, I do! My trusty FITBIT however, is giving me a fit. It's been malfunctioning for the last two days. I'll have to contact the company to see what I can do. (Wrong date and not logging steps fully-- boo hoo)

Once again, Have a Healthy, Happy New Year.

You are on Level 8; in spark points? That's the only place I think there are levels. But I don't remember them as being numbered. Maybe I've been around for so many years that this info has long left me. Was there no general reference to this level announcement? Where'd you see it?

I'm off for a second walk now for today. Like yesterday, I did two separate walks instead of a double loop around one lake. My walking has been excellent for the past two or more weeks. I lose track of everything (time, accomplishments, schedules, to do projects...) Happy go lucky me.

USMC - What great news!!! It sounds like you are definitely heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work. Losing the weight slowly is healthier for you than losing it quickly. I'm sure now that you have a good routine down, it will be easier to maintain. I look forward to hearing all about your progress.

Dale - You are doing great with your walking. It is getting to be nicer out and walking outside is definitely getting easier. I take my dog to Myrtle Point every day to walk with his friends and mine. He also gets to swim, which is not something I'm willing to do at this point. Too cold for me but it sure doesn't stop the dogs. LOL Look forward to hearing more about your progress as well.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the beautiful weather we are supposed to have this week. Tomorrow is supposed to be a hot one.

360 minutes walking!! (Sunday through Saturday) That's impressive.

USM,
What good news you share. I know it really feels great when we take more control back on this aging process stuff. It's unfortunate that you got disabled in Nam but you can reverse that diabetes, which is really important! Where are you in Maryland? When you walk for an hour, what is the environment? It really helps me want to walk if I like where I walk.

I walked for an hour yesterday as well. I've really stepped my walking routing up because the weather is perfect for me. Too warm is too hard; I overheat like crazy (unless I just stroll, which I don't).

Have a great walking week.

Walked 1 hour today , outside down by the water in beautiful. Been on this site 90 days and it is going slow, keep telling myself slow is good. Have lost 19 lbs, that turns out to be about 1.5 lbs a week which is good. But the best part is the improvement in my Diabetic numbers, and cardio health. Doctors are happy, and I hope and pray that I have a new life style.

Thanks Dale. I'm really trying to get rid of the weight that I've gained over the last three to four years. I'm going to have to start kicking my exercise up a notch though. I don't want to plateau just yet.

Had to go have my blood drawn from when I had my physical. Hubby drove me because I get light headed when I don't eat anything. We went to breakfast after at Bob Evans and I chose my meal very carefully. I only ate 1 pancake and turkey sausage link (instead of eating both of them), most of the scrambled egg substitute and had some fresh fruit. Don't know what the calories are yet but I'm going to be entering them next so I'll know soon enough.

Sounds like you are doing good as well. Enjoy your walk today!! It's not a bad day out there today. I didn't get my walk in yesterday at all but we will be walking this afternoon. Looking forward to getting out this weekend too.

Hope you have a great weekend Dale.

Shelly,
You're doing beautifully. Great gradual weight loss. I guess you are really watching your calories very well in order to do this.

I walked three days this week but yesterday had to go to an activity instead. I counted some walking there but it wasn't like a walk around the park. Today I ought to pick back up with my schedule. I'll write more next time,
dale

I was very careful not to drink too much water before my weigh-in tonight. I'm down another 1.6 lbs for a total weight loss so far of 9.8 lbs. I'm happy to be heading in the right direction and am looking forward to reaching my goal weight. I have my goal weight set at 135 lbs but I will be happy at 140. Just to be healthy is good for me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I've watched a lot of Biggest Loser episodes where a team member would drink a lot of water before the weigh-in and either lose nothing or gain so I know it does contribute. Just how much, I have no idea. We shall see tomorrow at my weigh-in.

I've been walking at Myrtle Point with my dog for at least an hour every day, with the exception of Saturday and that was spent walking around the home and garden show in DC then around the entire store at Wegman's. It was our first time in that grocery store and let me tell you, I am hooked. Their produce is excellent. They have a lot of Weight Watchers brand items, which is the reason I went in there. So, even though we didn't actually do a 3 mile trek through the woods, it was still activity and I did count the steps I put on my Fitbit toward my activity for the day. I didn't do a lot of sitting on Saturday, that's for sure. LOL

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Only 2 more days and the weekend is here!

Hey US MCQA,
What a great option to walk Rt. 1 instead of go to iHop while you were at the car dealer. I wasn't driving in that area, but I could have been. (I'm in Columbia.) Do try to stay in touch. It's just Shelly and me here, so there's no fight for your time and attention reading lots of posts. (What is your first name?)

Shelly,
I don't know if the water you drank made a difference or not. I do know that when we weigh ourselves in the evening that it's a higher reading from first thing in the morning.

I totaled 175 minutes for the week in walks, done over 3 different outings. I record this stuff from Sunday to Saturday on the fitness tracker.

If I'm wise, I will walk today to start this week out nicely. Cleaning around here in the house seems to be screaming my name too, but I am good at feigning deafness...

Enjoy your Sunday,
Dale

My WW weigh-in was tonight. I was a little disappointed with my loss tonight. I only lost .2 lbs this week. I think I know the reason why it was that low so I will make sure not to do what I did next week. My dog and I ended up walking by ourselves today because I had my weight in tonight. After our walk, on the drive home, I drank a bottle of water the equivalent of 3 glasses. Which meant I was pretty water logged when I went to my weigh-in. I'm also going to up my activity next week. Gym in the morning and walking with the dog in the afternoon.

Hope you have a great Friday!!

Sometimes it's just better to give in to that feeling. Nothing wrong with taking a day to do absolutely nothing. Tomorrow being that cold is definitely going to be a downer but I'm determined to walk. Depending on when my friend can walk, I may have to take the dog by myself again (which I did yesterday) because I have my WW weigh-in/meeting tomorrow in the evening. I'm curious to see how much I've lost. I'm just waiting for the plateau to hit. It's going to happen, I know it.

Today was another good walk day. Bodie and I met my friend at 2 for a 4 mile walk then at 5, we went with her and another friend again. So I've put 18,000 steps on my Fitbit so far today. My hubby is coming home tonight and I need to get the vacuuming finished so I'm going to be doing that here shortly. It really wasn't too bad walking in the rain but if it had been colder, I probably wouldn't have gone. If it's too cold, it's not going to happen for me. Won't take a chance on getting sick. Not worth that. I may just end up walking a little earlier in the day tomorrow and Friday. Have a hair appointment on Friday in the afternoon so I won't be able to make that walk. I'm going to drop Bodie off at my friends house on my way and he's going to walk with them so at least he will get his exercise.

Enjoy getting cozy with a book tomorrow, Dale. Make yourself a nice, hot cup of tea and just enjoy. Will talk to you soon. Hope your son is okay.

Michelle

Hey !! Passionatetiger, got your message on my spark page and appreciate your concern, been busy and have not been posting much on any of the threads, but I am still here and still walking daily , matter of fact had to take the wife"s car to laurel this morning for service and instead of going over to IHOP for a real big sit down breakfast, I walk up and down Baltimore Ave (route 1) for 65 to 70 minutes. Thanks for the message .

Okay, so it's now Wednesday ...I'm feeling sluggish and just want to eat. I had a poor night's sleep worrying about my son. I had been good for a month without doing that. So now, though the weather might be fine for walking, all I see is the high wind blowing the bush outside the window, and I'm procrastinating on a shower. I have an early meeting tonight (4:30) before my normal 6:30 NicA mtg. I'm blah about doing those, too.

I'm glad to hear that your week has been pretty good overall. All the dog walking must have really been an upper (though walking in rainy weather isn't very appealing to me right now.) You'll really enjoy the home and garden show with your husband. I haven't gone to one of those in ...decades.

Tomorrow will be cold (expect 39 for a high here) so perhaps I can get myself to open a book and stay cozy then. It's what I should have done with today: just given in to the desire.

Talk soon,
Dale

Yeah, the scale god smiled on me last week. I'm actually doing a good job on my food this week as well. Not going to terribly over my WW daily points. I haven't used very many of my bonus points for the week either and have 2 days left before the week starts over.

I didn't do any sort of exercise on Friday or Saturday. Went out to dinner with a friend Saturday night and made a walk date for Sunday afternoon. She walks her dog (my dogs mama) and two other dogs (one is my dogs sister) every day at Myrtle Point. Even though it was raining and we got a little wet and muddy, my dog, Bodie and I had so much fun. We went again on Monday as well. Snow was gone but it was a drizzling. Wearing different clothes, I managed to stay dry. My friend got pulled into a last minute meeting at work so she was unable to walk. I decided that since we have had so much fun, and it was an absolutely beautiful day, to take Bodie down and walk anyway. Really glad I did. I have put over 10,000 steps on my Fitbit for the last three days. I am going to make a commitment to walk with her every afternoon, with the exception of this Saturday.

My hubby and I are going to the Home and Garden Show in DC on Saturday so I will get in plenty of steps. We may, depending on the weather, walk around DC for a bit as well.

I'm glad to hear that you took advantage of the nice weather as well. It just makes you feel so much better when you can get outside and enjoy nice days. I think it will put anyone in a better mood, if they get out and get active.

Hubby will be home tomorrow night. It hasn't been too bad having him gone, just a little lonely in the house. I really haven't gotten much done though. I am waiting for the weather to get nicer so that I can start painting rooms in my house. Still a little too cold to have windows open right now. Going to start working on my planter beds this weekend. I want to get them ready for planting and I need the help of my hubby. I broke my hand before Christmas 2011 and I have a hard time using the shovel still. Can't grasp it completely yet. It's a pain in the butt.

Both of my children live out of state. My son is in the Army and stationed in Hawaii. Yeah, I know... tough life... LOL My daughter lives in San Diego. Not happy with the life she chooses for herself but I'm hoping that she will get her act together one of these days. I love them both though.

Have a great evening and a good day tomorrow.

What a nice surprise when the scale god smiles. I hope it's a solid number for you this week.

I took advantage of the 55 degree weather today and walked for an hour. It felt nice. Can't say the rest of the week will be that good but I'll be looking for times to make up my 150 minute total for the week. That's my weekly minimum goal.

My disposition stays much more even from the walking. I was always a moody person but not anymore. What a relief!

I hope having your husband out of town is a refreshing change of pace rather than a loss. Aren't there things you can do when no one is around that you wouldn't do otherwise? I'm just thinking outside the box. Nothing in particular in mind.

Time to turn on the tv. I had my son here for a few hours which was great until he said he was leaving for a movie. Here he was helping me with my computer and in the middle of it all, poof, my time was up. Oh well. I got what I got and I'm grateful for that.

Have a nice evening,
Dale

Well, I don't know what I did right but I'm down another 2.6 lbs. this week. Going to my weigh-in yesterday evening, I thought that the amount would be just a little bit since I haven't done any walking or exercising all week except last weekend. Plus I did not have a good weekend food wise. I ate all the wrong things and blew through my extra points on WW. I was being extremely careful all week and staying within my daily points. I ate well too so I think that really helped on the scale. Very happy about it. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I did great over the weekend but haven't done anything at all since Monday. Can't seem to get myself motivated and I am trying to keep a sore throat from turning into something else. Don't want to get sick. I've been following my diet plan though and am staying within my points. Good thing too because I used all my extra ones this weekend. LOL

Had to go to the doctor today for my yearly physical. My blood pressure has been very high and I've been trying to control it through diet and exercise. I must be doing something right because, although it's still high, it's not as high as it was previously. The doctor thinks I can keep it under control with a healthy diet and exercise. My hubby flew to San Diego on Monday so I'm hanging with the animals until he gets home. I generally don't sleep well when he isn't home. So far, nothing has changed there but I am getting some sleep.

You're right, this week is flying by. I have my weigh-in tomorrow night and I'm hoping I've lost at least a pound. Don't want to be up, that's for sure.

Hope the rest of your week is a good one.

After 2 days of the fitbit being out of commission, it worked on the third day -- don't ask me.

Glad to hear you have all these exercise options. The same with your pooch.

The week will fly by since I have activities several nights in a row.

Last week I walked for 155 minutes. This week I've only done 80 so far but I do have several days before the total is taken.

Dale,
You should try contacting the manufacturer. If you bought it in December, it might still be under some kind of warranty. I agree with you that for the cost of it, is shouldn't just default. Hope you can get it working again. So far... knock on wood.... I haven't had any problems with mine.

We took the dog to Myrtle Point this afternoon after his play date with his sister, Mom and a couple other dogs. Only walked about 1 1/2 miles because we needed to get some lunch so I haven't hit my 10,000 steps yet but I'm either going to get back out there and walk or hit the treadmill tonight. Starting tomorrow, I am going to start going to the gym and get my strength training started. I love the ARC trainer at Planet Fitness, it gives a great cardio workout. Still plan on taking the dog for walks during the day, as well, when it's not raining.

Hope you have a good week!!

Shelly,
My fitbit isn't working! DANG. I walked a long time yesterday, too, but nothing recorded, and I've just recharged it which hasn't made any difference. When I press the button nothing shows up on the screen. This happened once before then mysteriously worked again. For the cost of the gadget I wouldn't expect it to just default. I bought it in December. Grrrrr.

Today was a beautiful day! My husband and I took the dog to the Three Notch Trail and walked a total of 5 miles this afternoon. It was so nice getting out to walk! I have put almost 15,000 steps on my Fitbit!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far.

I understand exactly how you're feeling. It is really windy and chilly. Not exactly walking weather.

The treadmill gets boring after a while. Next week is supposed to be a little warmer so I'm going to be getting outside. I know it will make the dog happy. My husband is going out of town on business on Monday so it will be just me and the dog/cats for 10 days. I could have gone with him but I decided to wait until I've dropped at least 15 lbs before going to visit my friends in San Diego. I left San Diego 3 years ago weighing 132 lbs and I've gained over 30 lbs since. My goal is to get to the gym in the morning then take the dog out for a walk (except if it rains).

I celebrated my weight loss by going out to eat Mexican food last night. Ugh!!! Probably not the best thing to do but those tortilla chips and queso dip was so good. I didn't have a lot though, so I kept it under control. I'm determined to drop this weight this time. I've finally found my motivation!

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny with a high of 57! Whoohooo!! Doesn't look like it's supposed to be windy either so we will be getting out for a nice long walk. The Cherry Blossom Festival will be starting up soon and I've already bought tickets for a boat cruise and I want to go to the parade on April 13th. We are going to start going to DC to explore and try to get familiar with the area. Lots of walking is going to be a good thing!

Have a great weekend, Dale! I may try to find your park one day next week. Maybe I'll run into you!

Hi Shelly,
Glad your NY trip was a good one and that you got to drop some on the scale, too. Sounds like a win-win.

I've gotten out there to walk a couple of times this week, is all. Your having that treadmill in front of a TV sure makes things really convenient for you. How nice. I look out my window now, having yet to take the dog out, and see high winds which aren't exactly inviting me to get up. It's one of those mornings where a shower is overdue and I want to just sit here like a slug and sip on my coffees.

I'm around. Stable. Hanging loose.

Where did everybody go?? LOL Must have been a couple of tough weeks.

I had my WW weigh-in tonight and I'm down 3.2 lbs from my last weigh-in 2 weeks ago. I would've like it to have been more but with the 2 days in NYC and not eating as well as I should have (dessert and wine, lots of wine!!), I'm happy that I had a loss. It could have easily gone the other way. Back on track now.

I'm happy to add that I've am adding exercise in now. Monday, I walked for 90 minutes on my treadmill while watching The Biggest Loser. Tuesday and Wednesday, I walked for 60 minutes while watching a couple of shows I had recorded. Tonight will be more of the same. 60 minutes on the treadmill. It looks like the weather is going to start getting nice and am looking forward to getting outside and walking with the dog. We are going to Myrtle Point for a walk with his sister and mother. It's going to be a little colder than I would like it to be but I'm going to bundle up. I've been putting this off for too long now.

Dale, I hope things are going well for you. Haven't seen you in a while.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Dale - I have no idea where Columbia is but it sounds like it's a good distance from me. Don't know if you know where Waldorf is but I'm 20 minutes south of there. DC is probably a 40 minute drive for me and Baltimore is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours from me. It takes me about an hour to get to Annapolis. I'm in St. Mary's County. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to check out this park, if for anything other than just getting out of the house and doing a little exploring. When going to hook up with I-95, I usually go up 301/50.

We are taking the train up to NYC and spending the night. I don't like driving in NYC. Those people scare me and I've driven in Los Angeles and overseas. You'd think that if you can drive from the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the street, you could drive anywhere. Not necessarily true. NYC is a place all of it's own and they drive like crazies there. LOL

Since starting WW again, when I go out to dinner, I am very careful when I order my meal. You can have whatever you want to eat, you just need to use portion control and decide what's important to you. I always make sure when ordering steak that they don't use butter or oil on it. That adds more calories than you need (it ups the WW points value of that item) and it's not worth it. If ordering a baked potato, I have them put the butter and sour cream on the side, then don't use all of it and order the salad dressing on the side as well, then eyeball measure out a teaspoons worth and mix it into my salad. This works well for me because I don't like my salads drenched in dressing. You really only need enough to just boost the flavor of the veggies anyway. When my dinner comes to the table, I ask for a small box and cut everything in half, put half of my meal in the box and enjoy. This keeps you from over-eating but you still get to enjoy your dinner. I haven't ordered dessert since I started back on WW because any of the restaurant desserts are extremely high in their point values. I just wait until I get home to have dessert. Most times, by the time I get home, I no longer want dessert and can just settle for a piece of fruit. If I do want dessert, I grab a Fiber One Brownie (the double chocolate and chocolate chip ones are really good), microwave it for 10 seconds on 10% power then add a scoop of Edy's Slow Churned Caramel Delight ice cream. And that is my dessert. Just as good as any restaurant brownie with a lot less calories. So I can still indulge my sweet tooth without going overboard. Believe it or not, I learned how to order more WW consciously from my sister. She was a pro at eating out while being on WW. They dined out almost every night because she didn't have a very functional kitchen at the time (her husband was in the process, took him almost 7 years LOL, of updating the kitchen) and she lost over 30 lbs on WW. That is how I know it can be done. LOL

Now, Wednesday is my birthday and we will be having dinner in NYC. You can rest assured that I am going to have a good meal that day. I will be careful with what I order but I will be getting dessert! LOL

Have a great week!!!

SHELLY,
Enjoy your night seeing Jersey Boys! Will you take a train up or drive or...?
Hmmm... Centennial Park is next to Columbia (in Howard County). I can't remember where Mechanicsville is in order to give you a relationship from there. Columbia is west of I 95, between Baltimore and Washington. I could give you other routes once I know from what artery you would travel. ...And I don't think my picture is that good to identify me. Time goes by, hair color and length can change, etc.

I ate badly again last night, but, I did WALK some today for the first time in over a week. That's a blessing. Right now I'm listening to a relationship tape. In a half hour I go to a NicA meeting (nicotine anonymous) and then will be faced with deciding what to eat once again. If I don't go out I believe I can eat lightly. If I do go out, I hope to slow down enough on my considerations until I pick wisely.

Enjoy your evening.
Dale

No, we don't go to NYC until Wednesday. We are taking the train up and only spending the night. The weather forecast for NYC is not a good one and we decided that instead of spending a few days up there now, we would wait until the weather turned nicer and go back up. We are going to see Jersey Boys Wednesday evening and hopefully get in a little walking but it's supposed to be raining so I don't know how much walking we will actually get in.

Don't let your eating spree get you down Dale. Sometimes you just have to have that extra helping of pasta because it just tastes so good. Don't beat yourself up about it. You will be fine. It's a new day and you can put yesterday behind you. Again, sorry to hear about the deaths in your family. If you ever need to talk, I'm here. I might recognize you at Centennial Park, if I ever find out where it is, because you have a picture posted. If I do, I will definitely introduce myself. You will most likely see me walking with my dog.

My pace is a pretty quick one thanks to my husband, who walks pretty fast. I have had to adapt my pace just to keep up with him. There are days when I have to literally hold his hand so he doesn't get too far ahead of me and he usually ends up dragging me with him. LOL I can adapt to anyone's speed but try to keep it a little fast to keep up the heart rate. Breathing is definitely something that you need to have control of in any time of exercise. If you would tell me where this park is, I would love to have another place to walk at. I live in Mechanicsville and not opposed to driving wherever I need to go. I don't know where Wilde Lake is either. We've only lived in the area for 3 years and haven't done a lot of exploring as of yet. Something we plan on doing this spring, especially now that we have a 10 month old puppy. Puppy... hah! He's a moose!!! LOL We are going to be going down to a friends tomorrow to let the dogs play for a bit. Looking forward to the weather warming up so that the dogs can all swim again. My dog is a lab mix and a great swimmer. Absolutely loves the water, has since he was 4 weeks old and putting his big feet in the water dish. LOL My 81 pound goofball!!.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. See you at the park one of these days!!

Good morning. SHELLY, aren't you in NYC right now?
I'll see you around Centennial one of these days and not even know it. With the colder weather I am just using the closer park (Wilde Lake) to my doorway. They're only 35 minute walks. Centennial is near 50 minutes (45 if the weather is ideal).

Welcome LADYSMITH.
I walk with a neighbor who has to use a stool because when she is sitting in a chair her feet dangle instead of reaching the ground, and she out walks my pace, so I don't know about being short as a reason for your pace. I find it's usually a matter of deep breathing. I get into a sweat when I walk because of the huffing and puffing I wind up doing. But when it's all said and done I feel great for having exerted myself.

One week ago I proudly reported having accumulated 260 minutes of exercise. However, this week I did NO walking at all! Deaths in the family preoccupied most of the week by gathering with relatives and friends. Then when I could have walked on Thursday, I just didn't find I could get myself out of the house. So zero for this week.

To boot, last night I felt like I was on an eating spree. Where one cup of pasta was plenty, I impulsively cooked two. Of course I couldn't eat it all but I overate. A rare item in my house, I also found myself eating Purim cookies. Thank goodness my son came over late last night and took away the last four.

It'll all calm back down though. Life is uneven at best. And tomorrow (Sunday) starts a new week for me with my walking. The forecast for it is a good one.

Be gentle with yourself. Oh, and the advice SHELLY gave about the party is good. I should have read all that last night.

Welcome Lady.

I don't know where Centennial Park is because I've only lived in Southern Maryland for three years. If I knew where it was and could find it, I would be willing to meet you to walk when the weather starts warming up. I'm not much of a cold weather walker. As long as its not too cold (I prefer it to be in the 40s at least) and not too windy, I'm always up for a walk in the great outdoors. The only place I walk when it's not in my neighborhood, is the Three Notch Trail. I also take my dog with me on my walks.

As for not overdoing it at your friends, try chewing each bite 30 times and putting your fork down between bites. You will eat slower and you will be full after 20 minutes so you probably won't clean your plate. If your friends serves dessert, just ask for a very small portion, letting them know you are trying to stick to your diet. That way you won't hurt their feelings and you won't overeat.

We are here to help if you need it. Have a great weekend.

I'm not certain if I am doing this correctly or not. I just re-started my SP program yesterday. I tried this 1 year ago but fell away from it. It seems that recording foods is the only plan that works for me therefore I'll give it another 'go'.

I've been reading through some posts and see that a few of you are walking in places I know. Centennial Park is a gorgeous place that I was just recently introduced to and I saw another post for CCBC Catonsville campus...another great place to walk.

Like many of you, I don't have another interested walker. I'm shorter and my gait is not as brisk as others, so I find it hard to keep up. I need to enjoy my walks in order to keep them up. Maybe once I get going, my stride will lengthen as well. Right now, I take my dog with me.
PS** I created my own page today and even began a blog! Now, if I can just get through this first weekend with a dinner out at a friend's home my eating smart, I'll be ready for next week!

Right now the weather is supposed to be rainy and possible snow showers on Wednesday and Thursday in NYC. It figures... I knew I should have gone somewhere tropical for my birthday. LOL We are definitely going to be dressing for the weather and I have the perfect coat for it too. I'm going to look like an eskimo but I'll be out there walking. We may end up going from building to building to get out of the wind, if it's windy, but we will walk. LOL

I know exactly what you mean. It was sunny but still cold and the wind was blowing something fierce so I stayed inside. Should have used the treadmill but couldn't seem to find the motivation to get my butt off the couch. LOL

Have a great weekend!!

Shelly,
NYC is a great place to walk. Just be dressed in layers and bundled up. Congrats on the 2 lbs. You'll weigh in next when you can.

The day was really sunny though cold here yet I didn't quite get myself out to walk. It's so easy after sitting around for days to feel like my behind is stuck to the chair. No excuses.

Went to my WW weigh-in/meeting this evening and I am happy to say that I lost 2.2 lbs this week. I will miss my meeting next week because I will be coming back from NYC so will have to either wait until the following Thursday to weigh-in or do it on a different day somewhere else. My goal for this week is to walk more. I need to push myself to do it but at least I know I'm headed in the right direction.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sorry to hear about the funerals, Dale.

I think it is supposed to be the other way around but that's okay with me too. I am looking forward to the motivation. Good luck with your week. I'm sure you will find a way to get a walk in somewhere. Even if its only for 10 minutes at a time, that's still activity and any activity helps. At least, that's what I keep hearing. LOL

USMC - congrats on your 3 miles. I find it funny that I can walk 3 miles in an hour when walking outside but when I'm on a treadmill walking at 3.0 mph, it takes me an hour and a half to get 3 miles.

Try to have a good week everyone!

USMC and Shelly,

It looks like for now there's just the three of us, which suits me fine. The smaller a group, the more motivated I become. Isn't it supposed to go the other way around? Anyway, I didn't get any walks in this weekend either and had a funeral yesterday where we stayed with family into the night hours. Tomorrow is another funeral, so this week isn't looking that promising from here. I'll keep you posted on any progress I make.

After our 5 mile walk on Friday, I didn't do any walking this weekend. I did, however, walk on my treadmill tonight for 90 minutes so I feel really good. Tomorrow, if it isn't raining, I will be going outside to do my walking since the weather is supposed to be in the upper 40's and may hit 51 degrees. I hope everyone has a great week!

I love to walk as well but I'm not really into walking when it's cold out. Fortunately, I have a treadmill in my basement. Just have to dust it off and start it up, which is what I will be doing this afternoon. Have to get my 5 miles in.

Welcome back Shelly. Glad to hear you got 5 whole miles in yesterday. The whole week has been fabulous weather. I managed to get out there often enough to rack up 260 minutes for the week.

Walking in all kinds of weather except for mud and ice conditions is my preferred method of movement. Love it,
Dale

Hello everyone.

It has been a while since I have been here. I lost my motivation and had a devil of a time getting it back but I found it again and I'm back on track. My goal is to post my daily walks every day. I re-joined Weight Watchers but will still be tracking my food and activity here on SparkPeople. It's a different tracking system than WW and it will be nice to see how many calories I take in everyday plus how much sodium I consume. I was told my blood pressure was extremely high so I have to reduce my salt intake. Not sure why my BP is so high because High BP doesn't run in my family. The only thing I can think of is my weight and fitness. Time to get something done about that so here I am.... again.

I did walk 5 miles today with my hubby and our dog. He's not a little puppy anymore but still is only 10 months old. Loves getting out for walks though. It was such a beautiful day today, in the 50's. Don't know where a lot of walking trails are so we just did the Three Notch Trail in Charlotte Hall. It's nice to have that so we don't have to deal with cars since there are no sidewalks around here.

Have a great weekend.

Fortunately the extra pounds are off again. That really upset me. I make no progress actually getting down near a better goal weight. Sigh.

Doing double walks whenever possible, feels great while the weather holds enough to be out there. Once it's in the 30s I'm not so sure, but I have been known to do it anyway.

all time high this year: 163.5

Eating out last night I picked a very poor food choice, since it billowed me up two full pounds overnight. Since I also have a cold lurking, the fluids are high one way or the other.

I'm really glad I walked yesterday because I hear we're in for a winter storm tomorrow. It's time to get some gas in the car and think if there's anything I need in the grocery.

Walked out in the cold this morning, was about 28 out there did my 2 miles in about 40 minutes it was nice out there.
Thursday 2/7/2013 is the day for my weekly weigh in , 195 up 1 lb from last week , It is also time to take the monthly measurements, Waist 41" down 2" , hips, thighs, stayed the same but saw a 1' increase in the arms, that means there is an increase in muscle mass, which I am told weighs more than fat, so the 1 lb pound increase in weight is ok. NO DISCOURAGEMENT HERE.

Bodie is only 6 months old so he has a lot of training still but he is a very good for a puppy. We have a small flashlight we carry and only turn it on when a car is coming. Thanks for chatting with me and giving me tips. They really help!

Bodie sounds delightful. You have the potential of training him to do lots of commands. Mine loves to go get a toy but won't return it to me on command; only when he decides I should throw it.

What a different world from San Diego. I bet you miss it there.

When I want to walk at night I have a headlight I wear on my forehead that I bought at REI. It really makes me feel safe cause I can shine it right in the car's direction, waving it about. Love it.

Thanks for joining our team.
