Coffee can be hard on the bladder and kidneys, but in moderation, have fun and drink up,

Loosing weight after 40 is hard, but it can be done and I love how this site helps out soooooo much with the tracking. I had no idea that 3 kentucky fried chicken thighs had 65 grams of fat, more than my whole days allowance!!!!

What was the dr's reasoning about the coffee? I like my coffee but drink lots of water and nix the soda.

WOW! I heard about the flooding on the news. I'm grateful that it did not effect the part of IL that my mother is in. The weather all over the nation seems to be crazy.

My week has been crazy too. I'm glad that it is almost over!

Blessings All! Sandie

We have had a ton of rain in WI. Yesterday, a road washed out and resulted in a lake completely disappearing. It was a huge tourist spot. There is flooding in a lot of places. At least the temp's. are only in the 70's.

What a mistake! I'm cleaning out my clothes closet! I've been putting off for a long time. How depressing! Maybe I should turn my Kenny Chesney music off and put on some praise music or Todd Agnew!

I hope that everyone has a GREAT weekend!

WOW! Lots of activity today! It's GREAT!
I eat my Spark recommendations of calories and the other stuff. I tend to not eat enough so I keep close track. (I haven't been posting it because I don't have the time right now.) I drink 10-14 glasses of water and spend at least 20 minutes on the treadmill at least 2 times a week, and about 40 minutes twice a week. (I don't have time for more.) It took from December 06 to November 07 for me to lose 20 lbs. It took from November to March 08 for it to ALL come back on, and now it just won't budge.
UGH!

Part of my reason for it not coming off after 40 is I started Menopause Early at age 38. I am now 48. I havn't put on that much for those 10 years worth but it is still there.

Dh was told that coffee was ok. I am not a coffee or soda drinker, so it doesn't matter either way. I find that drinking water at each meal helps a lot also.

thank you. Since my doctor told me on a visit to him to stop drinking sodas and coffee, I have been drinking water. Plus my boyfriend only drinks water so when I see him that is all I have. And I hope that the aerobics will start to pay off

Patti--In the last few weeks, I have just started eating more protein and healthy carbs at every meal/snack,(because that is what DH's nutritionist has him doing) and that seems to be helping me. I am back to having more energy which makes my workouts better. I refuse to diet, but I am willing to make small permanent changes to my diet. I also need to get 8-12 glasses water daily.
I would think that your aerobics would start to pay off soon.

I have gained the weight that I had recently lost and am trying to get it off again. Can you give me some idea and tips on how to make the scale move again? I have been drinking water and watching what I eat. I just started to go back to my aerobics exercising. Maybe that will help.

I just lost .5 lb!!! Yesterday was a good day for me. 2 hours yard work, 1 hour biking while watching tv, I measured everything I ate, and managed 8 glasses water.
Sandi-- I know I just joined this team, but what is your eating/exercise plan? Maybe we could give you some ideas to get the scale moving again. I have been stuck since last Sept. Everytime I lose a few, they come back.

I have discovered that I have to work out twice as hard to get half the results. I wish I would have tried losing weight in my 30's instead of waiting until my 40's.

I finally lost 5 pounds after I went on the South Beach Diet. I have 3 more days to go until I'm finished with Phase 1 of the diet so hopefully I will lose some more. You are suppose to lose from 8-13 pounds of weight.

I didn't have this problem when I was younger - the weight came on as I got older :-( I feel so stuck that I want to scream! I'm doing everything I'm suppose to - including water & cardio and still nothing. YUK!

I just wish that I'd have listened to those who told me, "It will be much harder as you get older!!!" I hear those people often!!! The good thing is that I can change this...no matter how long it takes.

I agree that we hit a certain point and then it's just not so quick and easy anymore, and harder to maintain our successes.

So what in the world will we do when we get to our 70s and 80s (if we're blessed to live that long) and we just can't do what's becoming harder even at this point? At that age, how will we stay trim and healthy? We certainly won't be able to survive by fasting and exercising and strength training all the live-long day. emoticon emoticon

The pounds you work so hard to lose seem to come back so quickly. It gets a little discouraging at times. I've decided to keep eating healthier and continue exercising whether the pounds come off or not. I have lost a little but it definately takes a lot more work and consistency.

Absolutely. When I'm strict on my Weight Watchers, it will come off. But as soon as I lessen up even just a bit, here it comes right back again. And I don't maintain as easy as I used to. I have to make my portions MUCH smaller and work out twice as much. So not fair!

It is definitely more difficult over 40 and if it is the last bit you are trying to lose. I am almost 49 and am able to gain without a problem, losing on the other hand is much more difficult. In fact, I have not lost. I am more toned from my strength work and walking and I feel better. Clothes pretty much fit the same and tummy buldge just refuses to lessen. I just keep hanging in there for at least a minimum of being all the healthier for my lifestyle changes.

Oh ya!

About a year ago I was on a lean protein menu & I lost 15 pounds I was half way to my weight and then things in life changed for me.
I'm 44 about to be 45 and yes being in my 40 as made a huge difference.
In fact what I use to be able to do as far as a work out in 30 minutes has change totally for me now I have to work out for 60 each day.
Of course I'm also going through premenopause and that adds to every thing also.

With what your doing is building muscle I of course weighs more so your looking toned and more fit becoming a better you!

I'm a 41-year old mother of 3 children. I have worked out off and on my whole life and have been able to lose the weight pretty easily until the last year. I still have some weight around my stomach, waist and hip area that I am trying to lose. In the past, I would normally start working out and my stomach would flatten out in no time. Now, I'm working harder than I ever have and it's not coming off so easily.

I have started noticing that I am toning which is good. People have told me that I look like I've lost weight, but when I step on the scale, I've actually gained in the last week. My measurements haven't changed in the last month either.

I've heard that after you turn 40 it's harder to lose the weight. Is anyone else having this problem?
