Hi, I'm new here, too. I'm 46 and was surgically forced into menopause almost two years ago. It's been a ride since then!
Yes, that pesky ol' metabolism starts doing weird things at about 40 years old. Instead of quitting, though, I think it just takes a break so that it can come back and heat you up every now and then on the spur of the moment! (hot flashes are NOT fun) BTW: I've done some reading on Black Cohosh, and it does help some people -- but only if you have a uterus. If you've had a hysterectomy, don't bother. Soy is much better.

I'm new here as well and I'm 47. My biggest issue is that sugary foods were always my favorite thing to eat. I may be in peri-menopause, not sure. I do have RA and that makes excercise difficult sometimes but I usually push myself really hard and before you know it, I'm having fun. I started a home based business and while it's not stressful it does zap my energy. I think we can do this as well. I wonder if I can get that body on the avatar...LOL
I am new here and not used to posting anything! I am 43 and struggling to keep my weight from climbing. Taking prednisone didn't help!! I drink K2O protein water and find that it actually does help curb my wanting to snack on sweet and salty things.

I really like those nebisco 100 calorie snacks because I can take my time and enjoy them and know that the bottom of the bag will come and know that I am done; I love sugar too, especially fudge, which reminds me I have to add a dq to my nutrition and go run a 39 k!!! LOL
Metabolism? What does that mean, I don't think that I've got one of those!!! I've done well in the past but am struggling lately. The worst problem is sugar cravings which I've never suffered from in my life before.

I have several of the symptoms of this age, but I also know that it will be wonderful once we get through all of this. Keep up with what your goals are and reach for help when you are at your wits end.

I know what you are talking about, before in one month I used to work out two or three times a week and I can loss 20 pounds in just a month, but now I'm working hard and lose very little, I'm trying to drink herbal tea to satisfy my hunger sometimes.
That is so what happened to me and found that no matter how hard I worked nothing changed. I'm two weeks into sparkpeople. Sparkpeople has been working for me !!!!. I enjoy reading other's trials and victories. Did you find that your metabolism just seemed to stop when you hit the 40 year?

Hi, group I am new to Spark.. had been doing the WW thing and hit a rough patch not losing decided to change things and count calories instead of points. I hope this will work... I had lost about 18.5 then I am at a stand still... I will take all the advice I can use. If I can help I will be here :-)

HI, I'm new to this group also. I'm 47 and also dealing with menopause. Isn't it grand? I woke up one morning and found that my body was mysteriously rearranged! And moods...Depression is tough. One day you feel great and the next day wham! Being outside in nature helps me and sunshine.
I'm really watching my carb intake and keeping track of food on this site has helped a lot.
Hi everyone! I just joined SparkPeople so I am very new to this. I am 48 years old and need help. I am dealing with menopause, Lupus, depression, weight issues and a new job to top it all. I sure started this discussion off on a light note! Any helpful ideas will be greatly appreciated.
