Hi Marty and everyone,

I walked at the zoo today. It was a wonderful day, sunny and about 60* emoticon

I love walking at the zoo. The hard part (and I did fairly well today) is not stopping a lot to share what I've learned about the animals and how our zoo does things. There weren't many people out today (it's still February. People aren't thinking "Zoo" yet), walking was wonderful. I went as far as I could on every section of the zoo, leaving paths when they stopped short and making every step count. I still said hello to my favorites as I walked by: Oscar the red panda, the Simiangs with their tiny baby, the bear brothers, and others. I walked in the gardens. I also did some Walk Away the Pounds: 5 Fast Miles this evening.

My Fitbit One results for the day:

14,198 steps
13 floors climbed
6.02 miles walked
2,049 calories burned
Active score: 763 out of 1,000

I still have to conquer the calories burned (my goal is 2,200) and get that active score up to 1,000. Over all, it was a good fitness and a good food day.

I discovered a new trail today I did not know existed - actually I think it is a popular mountain biking trail - nevertheless - I enjoyed my self immensely. Reminded me of being on Vancouver island West - in the rain forests.

As I look out onto the mountains I am not even sure they are there - one great huge greyish wall of nothing obstructs my vision. Swish swoosh of the cars driving by and the pity - patter of rain hitting the sky lights is the sound that penetrates the quiet house.
Does this mean I will be confined to another day of indoors?
Most likely - although I am thinking we could drive into Vancouver to go to Costco - I walk the isles

A nice sunny - rainless day. My wife and I went for a two hour walk. Now she is complaining her feet hurt.
Went to my mothers house - she took us out for a bite to eat at Subway - then we walked home. Left the house around 10 am and came home at 1:45

Hello - haven't been to active on this site but I might as well get known by more of my team members. This morning I figured there was no way I would get my 10,000 steps in. It is raining cat and dogs and cold. I went to visit my mother - stopped to do a couple of chores before I ended back home. Still pouring rain - so my wife and I went to Wallmart to buy a birthday card for our dinner party tonight. We were going to go for a little walk - the rain had stopped - but by the time we finished shopping it was pouring. I decided to take her home and I would walk the dog in the rain. Well I was rained on - snowed on and hailed on. The dog wanted to go home. We were hiking/ walking around a small lake and I was determined to get my steps in - after all tonight's dinner party is going to be a mega overload of calories. As I write this the pedometer reads 9584 steps - so by the days end I will be over.

Today was great! I finally got back into it with my exercise. I did 30 min cardio DVD (Rockin Body) 10 min yoga stretching and 30 min strength training at the gym. I can feel it but it felt so good to sweat! I gave it all I had. Ready to keep it up!!!

Yay!

hi all,

I haven't been on this team posting for a very long time. But recently started up walking with a 21 day walking challenge started by a friend of mine on facebook. I finished the 21 days and am on day 23 now. Am finding I enjoy walking. I was even out walking in the rain today.

I do about 30 minutes a day.. that is my goal and if I go over that is a bonus. I am just getting back to being more active so babysteps and the weight will come off

Have a good day

Yesterday was such a nice day here, a little windy, but very warm and springlike...any other time I would have taken advantage and made a day of it walking at the track....
And I almost did, I almost just went, but I didnt...and I guess it was for the best, because today I woke up and my foot was really hurting.
I had done 60 squats yesterday...maybe put a little too much weight or pressure on my foot without knowing it.
I have to remember the bone isnt healed yet and I still have 3 weeks to go before my next xray...
I just really want to keep on top of my routine and not fall back to bad habits.
I have a sinking feeling the first week back on the track for me is going to be hard and painful and scary....not knowing how long I will or should walk...
My normal walks are around 90 mins and I dont know how that will go....
But I cannot wait to find out!!!!

We get Tundra Swans at our lake in Alberta as well. Beautiful creatures. None yet though. I see that you like to explore on your walks..me too. I have been known to get lost though.
I have thought about carrying weights in my pockets to legitimize my rambles over hill and dale. You get more points on the Fitness Tracker if you are carrying extra weight...and I don't mean FAT!

leg pain - knee pain - I decided not to go up into the highlands today - instead I walked two hours along the valley - found two new trails and off to explore - only to turn around because they ended, but regardless - discovering new areas - new trails - great to be alive and able to get outside.

Just thought I would stop by and share. I have to go back to the doctor over my broke foot on March 1st, he will do a new set of xrays and see if its healing since I was there in January.
Hopefully it is healing and wont need a cast and I will be able to gradually resume walking.
I try to exercise at home, doing my bike, weights and chair exercises, but it just isnt the same as walking.
I miss it so much and my brand new Kswiss tubes I bought to gradually begin adding running to my routine, are still sitting in the box.
I hope everyone is doing well and healthy and sticking to their routines.

Things are going well. Eating healthy and staying active. My struggle is to find a balance between energy in and energy out. I am sure I will be able to work it out over time but for now it is trial and error. I'll check the scale on Sunday. If I am losing I am winning I guess.

Good morning team
I had a little slip last night and bought some potato chips. I was walking home from work and stopped at the store to buy some milk and couldn't resist. However, it was just a small bag compared to large size bag that I used to buy. Anyway, what's done is done so I am going to stress about it. Today is a new day.
Happy Thursday and have a safe and healthy day.

That's an awesome goal. Right now I'm just trying to keep active with the help of my Fitbit One. My goal right now is to, of course, walk but also to strengthen my core. I had back surgery over a year ago, and I don't want it to get worse than it is. So I walk, do the stairs, dance, and do strength and toning. I'd like to be pain free.

Good morning
I survived my first day yesterday and I think I did really well. I ate only healthy meals and snacks and avoided all that junk food. I walked back and forth to work (5 miles) but I didn't get to the fitness video as I had planned. By the time I walked home from work I was exhausted - I think the jet lag finally kicked in. I will try one tonight.
I have set a goal for myself to walk 400 miles before my birthday (May 8). Since I will be doing 25 a week back and forth to work this seemed achievable.
Hope everyone has a happy and healthy day emoticon

The fitness videos are good, especially when I don't have the energy for a long one. I have so many---variety!

My back is hurting!!! I'm out of Aleve, and advil doesn't cut it alone. I expected this, though. Doing core exercises more than usual. If I don't strengthen my core, I will always be in pain. Loving my Fitbit One. I did 14 floors today!

Good morning everyone
This is my first day here and my first day back to work after a 4 week break. I am feeling great though. I walked to work this morning, 2.5 miles, so now I feel really energized to face the day and all my students. I plan to try one of the fitness videos on here when I get home tonight.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Tina,

How are you doing? Exhaustion is no fun. I really hope you are getting some rest. emoticon

I'm looking into some new things for the team to do. That, and taking care of grandkids, writing (trying to get some submisions in and writing my book), planning the garden for spring, trying to figure out where I can come up with some of the thing I need to enlarge the garden, applying for scholarships so I can finish my degree, and on and on...who said things slow down when your kids are grown?

Hi Laurie,

Glad you are feeling better and likeing your Fit One. I have the Fit Bit and love it, just haven't been wearing it.

This week has been a total struggle for me. I knew it was coming but Oh me. Up earlier than usual to be at training at 1pm and working shifts from 5pm to 5am. 3 days in a row. I'm so exhausted tonight but at least I can sleep in more tomorrow and not due back to work til 5pm. No exercise and foodwize is whatever is there due to no time. Not feeling to bad like beating myself up cause it's hard to put in that many hours in a day especially if the day if flip flopped. Home by 5:30, bed by 6am, up at 11 and training 1-5, shift 5-5. Just not feeling great as in tired and sluggish. Will get better!!!!!

Hey everyone emoticon

Ahhh, struggles. My shingles are gone finally! This was a very painful bout and lasted longer than usual. It's so nice to have them gone...for now.

I got my Fit One, and it is so worth it for me. It has increased the amount of time I am active and the variations in activity during the day.

I DID finish the challenge in December, but stopped posting about it because of the pain I was going through. It's a goal to get my blog about the challenge done this week.

How are you all? I've missed you!

Hi all, how's it going? I'm doing ok here. I didn't get as much exercise in as I wanted due to working nights and having 2 days of training (we have tons of training this month due to moving into a new building and getting all new equipment and I'd complain but I'm sure most of you would like your 911 dispatcher to know her/his equipment lol) But I did get some in Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat. Feeling good about it. Most days was clean eating and not eating out, just today ugggggg, I blogged about my little binge!

How about everyone else? Doing ok?????

Off hand what I can remember was 1 apple, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen peaches, stevia, kale, spinach, handful of grapes, 1/2 cucumber (I think) and 7 cups of water. I think that was all but I'm going from memory. It tasted good and was very filling.

Tina - I would agree - a more gradual approach is probably more healthy for you - cold turkey can be quite hard of your mind and your body. A Smoothie a day should be enough of a switch at the beginning. . .when your body is more used to it, you can up your game.

Which recipe did you use that you like so much?

Hi All and Dolly thanks for the spark message checking on me. The Green Smoothie Challenge did not go well. I fell off the wagon after day 2. I've been eating pretty good and clean and exercising. I'm not sure why I didn't continue. #1 the caffeine headache was HORRIBLE. I said no way and got coffee on day 2. I know I'm addicted, but I'll live with that one for a while longer, OUCH. As far as the rest of it, I'm not sure what caused my mindset to deteriorate. But I'm doing ok. I do plan to continue 1 smoothie a day and work into once a week smoothie's all day, just for the digestion break and rest. I'll work up to more and hopefully do a stretch again another time. I was amazed how it satisfied me tho. I made the whole batch from day 1 and just drank a glass full about every 4 hours or so and never felt hungry.

Thanks for checking, I'm doing good and again, I'm eating clean, little disappointed I didn't finish it, but will attempt again and main thing is to continue the clean eating.

I've added swimming laps at the Y to my walking and I'm loving that. Wow talk about using all the muscles in your body......it's awesome.

Good morning, good morning, all emoticon

My alarm says I should be starting my 30 min Kinect cardio workout but I've decided first on a 'drive-by' post. . .my schedule has been packed lately and my chatting has fallen by the wayside. . .

How are each of you doing? What have been your workout / weight loss efforts these past days? And your results?

Tina & Laurie - how're you each doing with the Smoothie Challenge?

Have a great day!

Dolly

Dolly,

I understand about having to take family into consideration. Since I am single and my kids are all grown, I don't have those considerations. But we can cheer you on as you do what you need to WITH a family! emoticon

Dolly,

This challenge is meant for detoxing and cleansing but with vital nutrients needed for you. It's built in that if you get hungry you can munch on raw veggies and fruit. I haven't done a 10 day one, but last year in March I did a 3 day one and as I'm hungry all the time and couldn't fathom going on green smoothies only, I did it with no problem and the last day was at work on a 12 hour shift.

It's not for everyone so don't think I'm trying to pressure you. Just adding one green smoothie a day to your diet is so fantastic for you. Whether you do it or not, I know you'll be cheering and giving support!

Good morning, good morning all emoticon

Tina & Laurie - I looked at the Green Smoothie Challenge and copied many of the recipes to a file which I'll print for my Battle Board. Thinking I may not understand the program completely - def certain I won't go multiple days without eating anything at all. Everything I do here has to have room to accommodate the fam - don't have time or energy to be running my program separate from everyone else's.

Thinking I'll adopt some of the recipes as a meal replacement once daily. . .thoughts?

Lynda - what is it the Fitbit does that I don't get from my Omron Walking Style Pedometer? I'm interested but don't want to bear the expense if no additional benefit to me.

Thx, ladies - hope your day goes well today

Hi all!

Tina, I'm going to look into the green smoothie challenge. I've been thinking about doing something like that on my own, so it's cool there is a group of people doing it. Togetherness helps!

Dolly, let us know if you are going to do it. We can encourage each other through it.

Hi Lynda. I can't wait to get mine, but there is always something big getting in the way. This time it's bearings in one of the wheels of my car. Maybe in February~~ emoticon
