I'm on my way back...
Saturday morning left the camp gates at 7 am. Did a couple of things in Squamish, and was driving out of Squamish at 8am. Arrived at our hotel 2:30 and was able to check in. Rested a bit them rode our bikes to a postcard Facebook meetup at the down town library. Later went to the restaurant that the owner of the camp gave us an appreciation gift certificate too ( casual fine dining) the food was good, but I ate before going because I just knew it would be tiny portions - I know - I know we are on a journey to loose weight.. But I was starving...
Sunday was very thick with smoke, resulting in the hotel pool being closed, walked the suspension bridges for half price because the views were hidden, but enjoyed it nevertheless and would go back. Saved a bunch of money by driving around and doing our own vineyard and orchard tour. Stopped and took many pictures of this but still no views - Noni didn't even see the lake we drove along side of.. But I knew it was there out of sight... Unfortunate no swimming in the lake.
Stopped off at a place that sold fresh goat cheese and Homemade ice cream from goats milk. Came out a little lighter in the wallet.
Monday the skies looked a little clearer so we did a 24k bike ride on the old kettle railway line paths - the smoke has lifted and it was an awesome ride. We stopped and had a picnic from the food I had brought along with us.
Did some shopping along the route Noni found some baking things that she was excited about and I bought postcards. Stopping at the fruit stands and buy fresh fruit.. So yummy.
We seen a few birds, a bear, deer... I don't think anything else.
Stopped a motel last night instead of driving straight home.. I was getting so tired and the car GPS was estimating arrival mid night - no I want to arrive home alive and not exhausted.

Not all was accomplished that I was hoping.. But it was successful in what we did do. Just not enough time in a long weekend getaway. But we are rested, too well fed, and it is good to stay in bed just a little longer and cuddle.
Home this afternoon if all goes as planned without any hiccups ...

It is going to be a long week as it is our last week of summer camp with two hundred mouths to feed coming in the morning. And then....
I have decided to go to Kelowna BC for the weekend, after that who knows?
So I have informed my new kitchen coordinator or what ever her title is that she will cook breakfast for the fifty or so staff on Saturday morning as I'm leaving camp Friday afternoon. I don't think I will stick around for the staff party.
I have arranged a sitter for Dalhouise. I have booked a hotel for two nights. So off to Kelowna my wife and I go for a mini date weekend.

Time off is slowly approaching but...
I'm still torn on staying home and doing many short day trips, or a long haul road trip.. All I do know now is our last week of the summer camp portion is going to be large. I received the meal numbers last night 200 hungry campers are arriving. The only silver lining is the age for this camp session - they are ten year olds - so they will eat less. But still 200 - that is a huge number.
Then it is the fall season with weekends off for the most part ... Hurray

Was looking over some postings on FB - postcard pages, when I got sidelined with a location I would like to visit. So the day dreaming, planning begins. I am off the last week of August. Last year Noni and I did a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. Noni doesn't like the long - long drives..
Money is a little more tight this year... And the Candian dollar is so low I want to stay in Canada, but I do want to do a road trip. Where to go? What to do?

Today is a camp change over day.. 110 campers left after breakfast - I fed 70 for lunch.. And then took off to town to visit Mom and check on mail at the condo. I must get back to cook supper for the 70 and then tomorrow lunch we have 185 once more for the week. Then after this the numbers drop for the last two weeks - I will get a week off - then the fall program begins and slowly I will get my life back. I will be feeding smaller group sizes, and most weekends off.. I can't wait! But this Camp Life is my career and I can't complain with being off for six months can I!

I am having a slight break.. Fed 130 hungry campers this morning and prepared 100 bag lunches. And then I drove to town and dropped the car off at the garage. On mom's birthday we took her a birthday cake in the afternoon and I got a flat tire. The tire is ruined.. I have all wheel drive and so I now must replace all four tires - two for sure - but all four because they are getting worn. While there at the garage doing a semi annual service and inspection.. Garage just called need something called a rotor and pads... Something is metal on metal and I'm told it needs to be repaired now..
Go ahead.. But I need the car back by 3:30 as I must return to work and cook supper. Today is BBQ day..
Delivery Truck is late .. It has been coming around 7 am .. Today I leave at 9:30 and no truck but I gave clear instructions to the new postion created this week to my dishwasher now front of house facilitator.
This position. Is a buffer between me and dishwashers - we are hiring one more person and having a rotating staff helper .. This facilitator will also be trained to serve some meals so I can have a break - ie - an afternoon and supper off occasionally - this is good if we have the right person.. Right now we do. A young 26 year old who is mature and responsible - and the owner after talking with me has made this transition .. And offered her a job next year if she wants to come back. Let's see how it works out..

Dalhouise likes air conditioners - he sits in front of our new one when we are at the condo.. And now in the car he get in between the seats and let's the cool air blow on him while driving with us. King Dalhouise is no fool of a dog.

So now I wait at home for the phone call telling me my car is ready and my visa is going to cry.

Two hundred hungry campers everyday for the last two weeks... I'm exhausted. It has been extremely hot. The thermometer read 36 / 40 c everyday as well. At least I have been drinking lots of water.
At night there has been no relief.. Hot and sticky. My wife even has allowed me to have a fan.. She hates fans - says they make her sick. I shower .. A few moments later I am just as sweaty as I was before the shower.. So my point is.. My sleeps have been restles, waking up uncomfortable and tired.
But today and tomorrow I am off.. Time to recharge - to get some needed recuperation.
So off to Vancouver we drive.. Stuck - dead stop both lanes of traffic as emergency crews deal with an accident. I hope no one dies.. But it seems very serious. 45 minutes late we are on our way.. At least it was overcast and 20 c as we sat on the highway waiting for the road to open.
We are heading to Vancouver to buy an air conditioner if we can find any. We do a couple of stops in large stores to be told they don't have any left.. Not looking good for success ..
We go to Costco - my membership has expired over a year ago - we are hopeful they might have an air conditioner - nope - but I did renew my membership and get a new credit card. And a hotdog.
Ok onto the mall. Final stop with not really much hope of finding an conditioner - surprise - surprise - we go into Sears and they have just received a shipment of them. We buy one..
Service sucked - but I have it and now I'm just waiting to turn it on.
( it was laid down in my car to get it home so we have to,wait three hours before I plug it in and turn it on.). It better work....
Oh we came home - sat it up,right - went out to eat supper..
Now I'm writing and resting..

So it begins .. Again.. Summer camp is about to start on Saturday and we have 200 registered.
20 will be leaving two days later to go on a canoe trip leaving me 180 to feed three meals every day. This is a large enough number to cause stress.. Where and the world am I going to store all this food.
Right now at 6:30 AM I am expecting the delivery truck. Over 8000$ in supplies are on their way. And this is most for four days, with a little carry over. I will be going to a three day delivery, more stress as I have to stay on top of inventory and cooking all this food / storage, and reordering. Yes I do it all my self ...
200 people wow... 180 people for days on end.. Spring groups usually only have 180 for a day or two at the most and then they leave and the next group is small so we can bounce back. Now there is no bouncing back just. More and more mouths to feed.. Food to order, food to store, food to cook...

21 days of work with no day off.. I am so ready for this weekend. But first I need to get through today. 85 people here for breakfast and lunch and 250 for a BBQ supper.
I hope to go to a movie, maybe find a geo cache or two, possibility of going to a bird sanctuary, and of course my wife wants to go to a mall to do some shopping.
Oh - my mother has been complaining so I must go visit her as well..
These are my weekend plans.
I hope you all are about to enjoy your weekend and have some rest too.

So Sunday was an off day. I haven't any more of these for three weeks I think.. If I hear correct the next three weekends have bookings and this means I am working.
So on my last off day we / Noni and I made the most of it.
Church - a little hike at Brandywine Falls - a long stroll window shopping in Whistler and an enjoyable supper at the Keg on the third floor patio.
Even though it was only one day it felt like a whole weekend : yet not to busy to tire us out.

Thus ended the date with Noni.
No not yet - we stopped in to say hi to my Mom then it was time to go back to camp and spend time with the Dalhouise. I had to leave him home as I knew we would be going in and out of stores and eating out.. He was a happy pooch when we got home - you would think we left him for weeks or something...

Saddle sore, but feeling engergzed. Putting on my cool looking mirror sunglasses I hop onto my bike saddle and head out the gate. Construction.. Half the road is missing and the other half is cracked and pot holed. But it is sunny, and I have supper all prepared (lasagna) so I have time to go for a long bike ride. We - my wife and I drive the four miles to the single lane bridge, ah we keep going to the four mile / eight mile viewing spot along the river bank. Do I stop? No even though this is the furthest we have ever gone on this road. We keep going and going to we reach some houses... We come to the house with the huge yellow smiley face hanging on a tree. This is where cell overage ends when leaving town towards the camp.
At this point we turn around. I am not sure what way the wind is blowing. I thought we were facing it but as we return back home it still feels like we are facing it, it is becoming more difficult to make those peddles go round and round.. Are we going up hill? It looks flat and when driving the car I never notice a difference in engine sounds.
I now and then look up to admire the mountain being swallowed by a cloud - just majestic.
I notice the wild roses in bloom as I coast on past splattering the brush along side the road with pink blossoms - not to mention the wild berries that are still in flowering mode.
We are well past the construction zone and I only hear the wind in my ears and the chirping of birds. I must make time to to do this again, but not today as I seem to have sat a little too much on that tiny little seat.

Dalhouise is not a happy camper today.. But I don't care! It is for his own good even though he doesn't understand.
Ring - ring - ring.. Our neighbour phones us.. His dog was killed last night by a cougar. He is phoning to let us know to keep our dogs tied or in the house as this large cougar is hanging around the area - also we must be aware to make sure none of our campers are wandering alone either - safety...
anyways I pick up Dalhouise and carry him back inside the cabin. Later in the morning I go get him and fasten him to the chains I have. One of the staff replied that they have never seen him tied up before.. I replied. It happens now and then. I have one at the cabin entrance and one at the entrance to the dining tent, just for occasions like today. The one by e cabin does get used more often in the middle of the night if Dalhouise decides to wake me up to go outside because I don't want him eaten..
So now he is sitting with me on the swing tied.. I guess this OK .. He is happy to be sitting with me.. ** I am off now - it is the weekend.. Hurray

I don't understand why the May 24 weekend is a week before the 24th. I remember in my youth going to the cottage on this long weekend - this is opening season for most cottages and trailers and for planting the gardens.. Not now.. Middle of the month is just to early.. Cold rains, possiblity of snow still looms heavy.. I think the government should change it back to the May 24th. And keep it there.
I did have a good day yesterday. I walked around the Boundary trail, sat by the pond spotting some birds and relaxing, sat on the swing with my pooch Dalhouse, rode my bike to the beach with my wife, watched a movie on TV, had a nap and I let my wife cut my hair.
I think that covers everything ...
Now today... It is pouring rain right now.. Sounds pleasant as it hits the tin cabin roof, and pours off onto the ground. Looks nice too as I peek out the windows and see rain falling unto green tree leaves. I think today another restful, napping afternoon is in store for me. This morning we will drive into town to attend church - have a stop to visit my mother at the nursing home. That might be a little stressful.. Depending on her mood.

Deliver came - delivery came around 8:30 ish we were just finishing breakfast. So all my stress and anxiety was not needed... But I will make sure I stock pile enough food to the future to cover delivery days. Last year we had nothing but issues with them coming late in the afternoon many times, I was told this issue was solve... Sales people are liars.

Today if it is not raining the plan is to rest,do some easy hiking and or do some cycling, keep an eye open for any bears wandering along the road and hopefully see some birds and get a picture of these. Most importantly not to be ran over by any crazy speeding intoxicated car drivers.
Long weekend is here... Hurray.. Pay day was yesterday, I am off for three whole days. I usually fill theses days up with activities - but so far I have no plans other than the above mentioned

Yesterday I was off and it was sunny after having a week of rain and dark dreary days that reminded me of fall not spring.. Noni and I took a drive to Vancacover with our bikes attached to the bike rack so we could do some cycling around the Sewawall. I think a few other thousand people had the same idea. Yes it was a little crowded but there was lots of room to move about.

Seen some birds also

and some flowers

It was a good day.

I haven't been on this post for quite a while. Last May (2014) I had broken my foot and was not in walking conditions for 8 LONG weeks. Now that my foot has healed , I've been back on the trails walking 2.5 miles & more. Last night I decided to go on the treadmill and was on it for 60 minutes. That is the longest time I've been on a treadmill; normally, 30 mins. I hope everyone on the team is doing well.

The sun is out, it is about 15c and I am relaxing finally.

This morning we went to the condo picked up our extra matteress with a another staff member then back to camp. Tonight we should sleep well with this matteress.
In the mean time I am going to sit outside with Dalhouise and watch the robins and hummingbirds.

Tomorrow the plan is to go to church, then go visit Mom and hopefully take her out for supper.
But right now I must be still, relax, and not think about what I am going to do next.

My week has ended.. Feeding 161 people- they sure ate a lot. We never got ahead of the on slaught of hungry campers. Our salad bar of over 30 choices was emptied every lunch - normally it last for the next day as well - and of course we make fresh every three days... But not this week they ate everything every lunch time. My soup was eaten every day as well and I made much more than normally required - which is a good thing and the home made bread gobbled down every supper with no left overs.. The quantity was good - these guess we're a little older than our normal and it was cold so this made people more hungry. Besides that they were very active outside all day doing camp things.
Noni and I are exhausted. My day began mostly around 650 and bed again between 2030 and 2130 hr hours. I also had to deal with the bad matteress as well... I was sucking back, back pain medicine, that took away the pain but made me drowsy. No afternoon breaks like I would normally take but straight 12 hours shifts or longer..
But the week is over now... I have the weekend off.. Well not all.. I need to do some work on Sunday to make sure we are ready for health inspection Monday morning.. A few little tweets need to be taken care of before I can feel comfortable facing this inspection.

If it does not rain I hope to bring our mattress from the condo to the cabin tomorrow ...

But for now I am off and can try to relax...

Ike's .... 161 guess are coming for supper, and staying for breakfast and lunch for the next five days. It is an international group of some kind - new to our camp.
As I look around we are looking pretty good - we are set to go..
Reality for my new dishwashing girls.. Now is the time to develop a routine and listen carefully to the procedures and systems I have been telling them about. It is so hard to teach during staff training as nothing is routine - we cleaned and cleaned the kitchen area / dishpitt area to get it serviceable .. But this afternoon the whys all come into place and hopefully they will understand.
Two very different girls.. One very clever on the ball - the other - well let's just say I think a few cards are missing out of the deck ....
Or is it that parents just failed to teach plain common sense... Can I help / teach this young lady?
Example - I reminder that she needs to fill the sugar container at the coffee station - white normal sugar.. She goes and fills the container with icing sugar...
There has been more of these little funnies with other simple common sense things ..
Oh well she is friendly and seemly happy right now..

Elk - a bear - a cougar...
All in one drive back to camp. We went to the library to hear and see a slide show about a person who leads biking tours around the the world - while there less than a mile away at the shipping terminals an explosion occurred. I heard the sirens but really didn't pay much attention as I was listening to the speaker - then the librarian entered the room and informed us of a explosion and fire... And we were to stay in.. So much for concentrating on the speaker now.. Concern about toxin in the air..

Today surprised surprise - the plumber showed up, the heater guy showed up, the dishwasher Eco lab person showed up and our fridge / stove maintenance man showed up... You are thinking wonderful everything is now fixed and ready to go -- Right!
Wrong.. I can't believe it.. Nothing is working. Nothing is fixed. They all must come back with parts of this or that so things can work.
We have no heat in the lounge
We have no water to the pot sinks or to the main bathrooms
I only have use of two ovens
The dishwasher is not fully functional and none of our new chemical dispensers are working.
Tomorrow I cook the first official meal for the staff.. Staff training begins.
25 people for the week a week lateral have 161 arriving for the week ..
I sure hope everyone comes back to get us up and running soon.

Waking up with sore backs my wife and I. The bed mattress is horrid. I am thinking about placing it on the floor direct get it off the old the old metal frame. Do you think this will help?
Should we use the box spring?

It is that time of year once again.. Back to work. We moved in on Friday morning and been cleaning the camp kitchen getting ready to open. Today Sunday my two kitchen crew helpers arrived and began cleaning and sanitizing fridges - tomorrow's if our plumber comes the process of sanitizing all dishes and pots and salad bar containers will happen, if the plumber does not show -'I will have them wipe all 200 chairs and clean and sanitize tables (24) hopefully the plumber will show... He was suppose to be here on Friday.
Official meal is Tuesday night when all program staff arrive to camp..
25. Staff for the week then a week later the schools come.. And we are busy for the next six months if all goes as plan.

just joined one of the team goals to lose 1.5 lbs for 1 week. Did this to push myself more and was a (weighing myself constantly) person. I hid the home scale because I lost motivation.
Is there anyone else on this challenge?

if I don't start, I cant finish.

Look what came in my mailbox this day. My lady friend from Ontario sent me a book "Life on Earth by David Attenborough". What I find interesting is that just last night I watched a documentary about said author.. Showing the history of film and wildlife photography from the beginning till now. But look at the envelope.. So many stamps. She had asked the post office to put as many on as possible..
Also I recieved a postcard from her that she bought 40 years ago and was tucked away In a old cookbook from Banff Alberta.
Then I have a postcard from Amsterdam from Mike?

Now my mailbox will have to wait till next Thursday before I can check it again. I think I will be pleasantly pleased when I get home and open it.

The bags are almost packed and zipped. This time tomorrow morning 1015 we will be in the air on our way to Mexico. With all the crashes these last 6 months my anxiety of flying has gone up a notch.. However I keep assuring my self - whether in life or death I will be with the Lord... But still I struggle with inner stress... But I really want to go to Mexico.
Dalhouise today wow...he really gave me a hard time as I tried to squirt his medicine in his mouth. Giving him his pills are easy just hide it in a treat, but the syringe is a different storey. Growling, squirming, running away the chase - the calming words and the trying all over again.. Finally I am able to get his mouth open enough to squirt -- done. Tomorrow good luck with the sitter giving hm his last dose. They asked me if it was hard or easy -'I said easy - it was honestly until this morning.. We talked about her two year old who hates the squirt and it is a struggle every day giving him his.. Tomorrow she will have to,deal with two babies... Good luck.
Dalhouse now see two, suitcases - we can't hide it any more - he knows..
- my stress about flying is over riding my stress about leaving him.. Gotta think about the beaches - the new adventures - the food ... Stop Watching the News

Dalhouise sure does look sad and sore. He wobbled out of the clinic like a drunken sailor walking along the wooden boardwalk back to his ship on a Saturday night.
I wanted him to have his needles up to date and that spot on his left hind leg that is still bleeding looked at before I took him to the sitters on Tuesday. Well during the examinanation it was clear even to me that he had a tooth infection that had to be dealt with.. This past month I could tell something was wrong - and there is No way possible he knew we are going away. I only took out the suitcase on Friday so that he wouldn't know it... Well he was coming to me wanting to be hugged. - sit on my lap - hitting me with his paw so I would cuddle him and pet him. He wanted me to make him feel better...
The doctor said he would almost immediately feel relief after the tooth was pulled because it was that badly infected - he actually pulled two.. I was told.
The old age lumps - I don't know what they really are - they were refered as that so - that is what I call them were removed as well. One on his mid back near tail and on his left hind leg.
Dalhouise kept biting the one on his leg and it was always bleeding. I was concer about infections after he swims in muddy ponds / creeks or when he gets rolling around in the dirt. Camp life is paradise for a health dog. Dalhouse is turning 13 on his birthday and he is a very healthy - young at heart dog for his age.. All those kids coming to camp must keep him that way..
I am happy to say as I close - this morning he is looking alittle more chipper.

( send him a get well postcard:)

Not a lot of hking done today. walked around the park with Dalhouise. Walked to the plaza and back again pushing a little cart.. I had to go buy a new car battery. When I came back from our bike adventure in Surrey I accidentally left the dome light on and so the next day I had a very dead battery. I called the motor club and got a boost.. Dave around for an hour and let the car idle for about half an hour.. Turned it off and went to bed. Next day I go try to start the car it is a no go.. Battery is dead again. I had inklings that it was going before and I think this was the last straw with the dome light left on. Thus the walk to go buy a new battery.. Once I got the batter home the plumber was just about to leave from doing a job here on site.. ( do you remember my last month plumbing bills) well I asked him if he would help me change the battery as I don't have tools.. He agreed - nice guy...
The car works now and so we drove got some groceries and I bought a new hand held GPS.
Remember my GPS died when I tried to turn it on on the bike trip to Surrey. I need to have a GPS for Mexico in five days from now..
I didn't buy a better one - same brand and company as the one I had because it was on sale. Discontinued .. So I got it for 89 dollars.. Regular I see was 199.$. I just didn't want to spend so much money right now. Need it for our vacation and property taxes and ultiities tax coming due in the nex 60 days.
Hopefully it will work ok for a year or so..

Thank you..
Yesterday I walked Dalhouise in the morning around the pond for a hour.

Came home ate lunch and drove to Surrey/ Cloverdale area to bicycle 11 miles around the area waiting for our friends to get off work.

They invited us to join them for supper at the fish and chips restaurant. I thought the area was flat.. Boy I was wrong.. Up hill we peddled and down hill we flew over and over.

Luck was on our side... It didn't rain. We had slight winds and sunny conditions with overcast moments. We rode all around the place exploring dead end streets and nooks and crannies...
In the morning I loaded my GPS - I planned to geocache as we cycled. When I arrived and turned my device on - it did not. I changed the batteries - still nothing - it is dead. I have been having issues with it - having to keep hitting the reset button.. Now even that does not work.
So NO geocaching done today.. That almost changed my mood - but on top the hill looking over towards the route I was about to go I see a spot I exspect to see birds - I didn't see what I thought I would but I was hopeful and once I began riding that was enough happiness

Today I feel like I accomplished something .. Checking the bank account early I found to my delight that the income tax refund was in.. Hurray... So I was able to pay off the visa and put some money in our RRSP s for next year tax breaks and some into our savings... Then I went and did some banking for my mother at the bank and while I was there I put some money into one of my account to pay for my life insurance policy that is due in April. Next it was a stop at Service Canada to print out the application for my wife's permanent resident card that is due this year and then over to Walmart to get pictures for this application. Did a stop at the drug store to get a copy of Mom's prescriptions tax report receipt and then a drive to the accountants office so that Mom can get her taxes done. Earlier in the day I collectd all her receipts and papers. Now it is out of my hands - hers is more complicated than mine and so I did not want to make mistakes.
I walked Dalhouise to the post office where I mailed a couple of postcards and bought some stamps and postcards already stamped so that I can mail more. (Hint)

The rain has startd here.. It was nice while it lasted - sunny weather..
Last night out of character for Noni and I - we met with camp staff to eat out tougher. We met at an Indian restaurant. I have been wanting to check it out for a few years but Noni has always refused as she said she was not too fawn about this style of food.. Well finally we went. She ate her portions.. I ate my fill. I thonk I will take my mom here at some point in the not to far future. The price is average - it cost me fifty dollars for the two of us.. However I am not minding it so much as I did enjoy eating goat curry stew... Rice, Nana bread, lamb k bob, and chicken k bob, and noni had chicken curry. With that I washed it all down with chai tea made with milk.
Talking and listening to the camp younger staff... It was good .. I think we are going to start the year off on a good right foot.. We have a temporary new office girl too and hopefully this will help us start well together - as the office staff and I some times have these little major conflicts. It was a good time of fellowship - and I was able to make them laugh a coule of times by being just me.. I am a strange one at times - I am old enough to be their fathers.. Noni their mothers.

My body is still sore a day after the scrubbing of the kitchen. I cleaned everything including the ceilings, walls and all table surfaces and shelving.
The hardest part now is knowing I have to go back in and reclean it all before I actually start cooking and serving.
Dalhouise is away at the groomers.. I took him out for an early morning walk and then dropped him off. He was so sad and tried to dart out the door escaping from the hug of the groomer when I approached the door. Poor little guy.. He knows..
Now I am home and the house is so empty without him.. I miss him .. Crazy eh!

After dropping Dalhouse off I walked downtown Squamish to the secondhand flea market. I went in and asked if they had any postcards.. The man behind the counter said maybe and pulled out a bundle over four inches high. What I could see - the date of some postage stamps are 1926
I ask how much.. He was not sure.. We browsed through them and he said I could have them all for 25 dollars - I said I have a twenty .. He said OK and I walked out with a bundle of older postcards..
Not sure yet haven't done due dillgence ... But one quick view on Google is that one set is worth 15 dollars alone. And I have several.. So I may have lucked out big time... Regardless I am happy with my growing collection.

Going to work.. I havent said that in awhile. But tomorrow morning I must wake up and get ready to go to work. Over the winter the kitchen has grown a covering of mould to keep warm I guess. So before the fire inspector comes in, before the maintence man can come in and repair broken pipes, before the fridge maintence company comes in to do a cleaning -- I must come in and remove the mould..
Wonderful...
Today I went and bought a safety mask because I am going to wash the kitchen with bleach..
I have a solid day of scrubbing to do.. I am going to be so tired tomorrow night...

Made time ths day to take the car into the service center for its spring semi annual maintence and winter tires removal.. Shopping for the supplies to cook Mac and cheese for fifty people at church Sunday and to go for a two and half hour bike ride and a visit with Mom. I guess it was a successful day... I even BBQ supper for Noni and I. I did some birding while riding our bikes and came across this unknown duck.. It looks like a Mallard hybrid cross with either a Green wing Teal or Wigeon..

supper BBQ

almost got stopped

spring is here

must not forget winter

come on

Dalhouise next week goes to the groomers

Time ... I had so much of it that it seemly stood still. Now the days are beginning to go faster and faster. Yes there is a bump in the race track.. My trip to Mexico can't come fast enough.
However last night I did my taxes for 2014 - been putting it off ... but last night I filed them.
Last week I had my eye appointment and this week picked up my new glasses.
Today I made the appointment at the garage to have my car receive it's semi annual maintence done and snow tires taken off. Next week Dalhouise will be going to the groomers.
Before the end of the month I need to take Mom to Vancouver....
Once work begins I won't have many opportunities during the day to get away from work. I need to cook breakfast, lunch, supper..
So as we put all our ducks in their row.... there are so many little things that need to be done before we move from thenCondo to the little cabin in the woods and Work.

I think the purchase of the bike rack might be my best decision in a long time. It is easy to put on and take off the car. More importantly is the fact that it is extremely easy to load the bikes onto it and off.
As I drove down the highway I kept an eye in the rear view mirror making sure the bikes were still with us. Stress.. But no need to be fretting about that.. When we arrived at our designation about 43 miles from home.... All was well - fastened just as I left home.

The day was cold and overcast, but there were no uphills to deal with. Yesterday's ride was more up than down and Noni did not like it at all - I was not too happy either but I took it in stride figuring I was burning more calories going up. However it sure was pleasant driving along flat dikes and seeing the sights.

This day was suppose to be sunny and 17c ... I don't know what happened because it was cold and overcasted and slightly windy. The good thing was I was dressed for it.. I was chided by my wife when we left home from Squamish, that I was overly dressed.. I proved to be the one warm and cozy as we biked today in Steveston. I have been wanting to do this now for a few years and with our new bike rack - this was the day to do so with the false pretences of a hot sunny day getting me going. Of course I had the GPS - I get to geocache and bike and do some birding all in the same day... Can life get any better? I ask myself.
The only thing that made it better.. I actually found some caches, and seen some birds and the riding was not all uphills. Life is so good.

So I bought the bike rack but so far it remains inside my car. But that is ok because I did go for a hour walk with the Dalhouise and then this afternoon went biking riding with my wife for two hours. Man there is a lot of up hills compared to the down hills.
In the sun it was very warm - but the shaded areas sure were cooler.. Should I wear my jacket or not... One moment I was too hot then I was chilled to the core. For awhile I took off my outer heavy jacket and tried to pedal to keep warm but that wind.
Oh that wind howled in my ears... Litteraly howling so loud .. and cold on my chest and stomach.. So back on went my jacket - and it felt so warm and cozy.

The sun is shining brightly yesterday and today..
I did cook a breakfast for 30 men on Saturday but only half actually showed up.. So I had lots of left over food that was given away to one of the families that need some extra help..
I was teased about serving the quiche - you know real men don't eat quiche ...
Then I came home and slept two and half hours... I really was not feeling well .. And so once more I lost a sunny bright day.. I manage a short walk with Dalhouise ... Noni took him out earlier in the morning for a long walk..
Today I woke up before the set alarm .. With the time change I wanted to make sure I was not late for church.. Walked Dalhouise then managed to get to church on time.. I think many others did not make the time change as we had a lot of free space today.
Now I am in the process of deciding what to do this afternoon.. I am hoping for a bike ride..
But I am still feeling slightly out of sorts.. But I don't want to waste this afternoon.

What happened to yesterday? I don't know.. I did go,for a Dalhouise walk, I went to my appointment to the eye doctor for my annual four year check.. Yes I was scolded for that he wants to see me every two years. I went now because I know I needed new reading glasses..no choice. Then the day was gone..
Today I have plans to go to Vancouver .. I was asked by my employer to go pick up at the kitchen supply place the new sink and tables he ordered. My kitchen is getting a face lift.. Hurray! Since I want to get some new pots and other trinkets, I will gladly go especially since he is paying for the gas and items..
I will also stop in at one of the supper stores to buy some food for the men's breakfast I was asked to cook for. I have said no on a couple of occasions ... But the man who was going to do it made other plans and backed out after the church organized this function ... So in desperation they asked me to help -- what can I do? I said yes.. And so now I must shop and prepare this meal. Tomorrow about thirty men will be coming - that is not so bad - but the churches kitchen sucks... That makes it difficult to cook..
I have decided to cook and serve .. Oatmeal - bacon - sausage - hashbrowns - Eggs probably scrambled and pancakes. My wife will make cinnamon buns for me to bring later today.

I need to get ready - gotta go to camp to pick up the camp van as my car is too small for the new tables and sink.. I will bring Dalhouise with me so he can run a it before I bring him back home and pick up Noni. Then into the big city we go..
Have a good day everyone.

I was surprised when my wife got dressed and was ready to go walking with me this morning.
Normally I walk alone with Dalhouise around ten.
Well today the three of us went hiking together. Cool at first but soon we boh were unzipping as we warmed up walking in bright sunshine.

The scenery was pretty amazing.
Bird sightings were alittle scarce but still rewarding..

Today the family - Noni and Dalhouise and I went shopping in Vancouver, eating at our now not favorite restaurant and then hiking with a mission to locate a geocache. Lighthouse Park - a beautiful place but our hearts were going thump thump, thump .. Up up up the trail went, then we took this other path that was not a main trail but the GPS said to go that way.. It was up and over bare rock where both Noni and Dalhouise slipped.. Then we had to go down this slippery steep path that almost didn't seem even like a trail.. Eventually we came upon a large trail .. We walked on giving up the idea of finding a cache as the distance now was indicating further away, and we were not going to turn back I that route we just came from. Just hiked on enjoying the sun and wilderness until we came to the shoreline of the coast.
I have been here before so I knew where we had to go to get back to the car ... Off we go.
Once we arrived at the paring lot I give Noni the keys and tell her to rest with Dalhouise as I wanted to go look for this cache one more time. I move at a fast pace back to the General location of cache where we had became disoriented ... I stop to catch my breath... And the GPS begins to settle down - I am about ten feet from it. I look high and low and zap there it is.

It was a good day

So today is / was the first day of March.. It came in cold like 4 c and rose to 8 c and it was overcast. I will declare it coming in like a lion so it will end like a lamb...
Living where I do - on the west coast of main land BC this month will usher in Spring - we are always a month ahead of the eastern provinces.. I think...
Today after church and a short visit with Mom I came home and napped for two hours.. I must had been real tired.

Yesterday I finally went to the George Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta BC. It was a fabulous day birding. The drive getting to it was not the most pleasant but all was forgotten in the joy of seeing so many birds, including three lifers.
I went hoping to see the Sandhill Crane, ( I did) but I also saw the Great Horned Owl and the Black crowned Heron.. Just amazing. My listed bird seen for the day ---- Trumpter Swans, American Coots, American Widgeons, Northern Pintails, Rock Doves, Euraisan Doves, Robins, Starlings, Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Spotted Towhees, Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Black capped Chickadees, Red wing Blackbirds, Great Blue Heron, Northern Shovelers, Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergansers , Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, Golden crown Kinglets, Anna Hummingbirds, Cooper Hawk, Bald Eagles, and Greater and Lesser Scaups.
I think that includes my list of the day - like I said it was a fabulous day.

I contacted my friend who has been posting pictures of the Great Gray Owl. At first he was hesitant of telling me where.. Must have felt guilty because he called me late last night and gave good directions of where he has been seeing it. I wake up several times in the night with anticipation because of this new information. Up at six am - I am out the door just before seven and on the trail by 0710 hr hours. I walk with much hope building and failing as I begin to think I won't see it. I turn my head and there it is... I get two quick pictures before it flies away.. I am so pleased, so full of joy.... I seen it, that is all I needed and a picture as proof.
Later in the morning when walking with my wife we seen it again and Once again I was able to quickly snap a few more photos. I am a happy happy camper...

Really neat that you were able to take in the sights of the Chinese New Year's what a good way to experience a new culture, a taste like you said.

Its a shame that you were not able to see the owl, they are so majestic and beautiful. hopefully next time you will have better luck.

I haven't been out and about too much lately. Just small little walks in the neighbourhood. Tonight I am taking my nephew skating. His brother has a shinny game on one community rink so we will take in the other. I love the feeling of gliding across the ice. It has been so long since I skated that I actually have rust on the blades!! hope it doesn't hinder me too much. Even though its down to -21 with the wind-chill it should be a good night.

Out the door to drive to the Estuary.. I have heard reports that a Great Grey Owl has been spotted in the area. People are being careful not to mention the exact spot.. So I went hiking at dusk last night two trails and then this morning I went out again and rehiked the two and another one. The last trail looked more promising with many ever green trees. No luck..
Nevertheless I enjoyed the hike.
It is a strange feeling last night walking in the woods in darkness. Oh the thoughts of bears, cougars, wolves and other things that go bump in the night..... That entered my mind..
Then I began thinking about the people who are about to through hike the PCT trail or the Appalachian trail. Months of wandering in the wilds - that would be scary..

Spent several hours walking and sitting in Vancouver. Chinese New Year parade brought us to the big city and then we walked around afterwards looking and investigating different markets. Who needs to travel thousands of miles to get a taste of China when it is right in your backyard. On the other hand... This is only a taste of the real thing thousands of miles away - just wetting the appetite - a tease. Hmmmm I wonder if a future vacation to China should be in the making or not.
