yes, you can break up your walks and lose weight, as long as you are walking at a pace that gets your heart rate up. I usually walk 15 minutes during my morning break at work, 15 to 20 minutes during my lunch hour and 15 to 30 minutes in the evening (if time allows), now that the weather is getting nicer, it motivates me to get outdoors as much as possible and I feel energized after.
If you have a pedometer, wear it all day so you can track your steps throughout your walks (and all other times of the day) - I've read that for weight loss, you should target at least 12k - 15k steps a day. That's hard to attain unless you are taking targeted walks - your short walks will add up the steps and will really encourage you that you are doing the right thing! Don't forget to track them on your fitness tracker so you can keep record of your progress.
