Artificial sweeteners are some of the most studied products in the world and are considered safe for most people except those with phenylketonuia and they are unable to take aspartame.

Splenda doesn't cause most people problems. It's the sugar alcohols that will get you if you consume too much.

Thanks! I have the site bookmarked. Plan for now is to stick with Splenda and not overdue it. If down the road, I start to develop gas or diarrhea problems....I'll buy the Stevia! lol

I have 9 stevia plants and got a lot of dehydrated stevia. I haven't ground it or weighed it yet.

I still laugh at myself for this - once, back in 2002 when I first started up on a low carb diet I overindulged one night on four, maybe even SIX sugar free Reses peanut butter cups. OMGoodness! I came down with the worst case of gas EVER! Instead of heading out for a meeting that night it was all I could do to lay in the middle of our living room floor and moan and groan for about two hours. Definitely BEWARE of sugar alcohols! They can REALLY do you in!

I prefer splenda too. I can tolerate the stevia in my smoothies and mixed in my greek yougurt, but its just too bitter in my liquid drinks.

Good to know....so far, I have had good results with splenda too. I am just concerned because I know that artificial sweetners can mess your tummy up (warning on the back of some sugar free items says: excessive consumption may have a laxative affect) So far that hasn't happened and I do like the taste of splenda, but I was curious about these Stevia drops and what other people thought about them :)

I've tried other things and will stick with splenda. It doesn't have the icky under taste that the rest of it has.

I'm dehydrating stevia right now. I make my own drops with everclear. This batch I'm going to grind in my Ninja and use it like that. I know the health food stores carry stevia drops, people like them and they are the best for you of anything on the market. I'm just starting to experiment with stevia, so can't answer your questions.

Great thanks for the info!

I stay away from Agave too...it sucks because I love the flavor and it is sooo good in Greek yogurt, but my body HATES it! A half a tablespoon will cause uncontrollable hunger, stomach cramping, and gas and it lasts about 2 days....its took me a miserable month to figure it out! Bummer! :(

I like your idea of alternating between stevia drops and splenda...different sugar alternatives for different things! That should be helpful in preventing any digestive upset from having too much of one or the other! Thanks again! :)

I have had my stevia drops for a long time so I don't remember the cost. Mostly, I like to put 2-3 drops in green tea. It does have a different taste than splenda, so you have to experiment. I have the powder too but have used the drops mostly for the tea. In coffee I have been using splenda syrups but my first choice is agave. I try to stay away from the agave, however, because I have heard it can cause a triglyceride spike, which I have had problems with in the past, and that it is higher on the glycemic scale. I have also read that too much stevia can cause sterility in men. "Too much" is probably an excessive amount, as if used in baked goods, etc.

Hello SB Sparkers!

I was going through no-sugar and SB recipes on Spark and I noticed that a couple recipes called for Stevia Drops. I have heard of Stevia but not the drops and I am curious about it. I have been using Splenda, which I like the taste of, but I know if you eat too much of the artificial stuff that it can cause intestinal/gastric upset. Stevia on the other hand, is all natural and one of the few sweetners recommended by nutritionists such as Dr. Mercola and Dr. Ann Louise Gittlemen. Anyway, I have some Stevia powder from Trader Joe's and I don't think it tastes as good or is as versatile in recipes as Splenda.

I was curious if any of you have tried the drops? I saw that they come in various flavors such as vanilla and toffee. Do you like them? What do you use them in? About how much do they cost and where do you buy them?

I am interested and would like to try them out...but I wanted to hear from you guys first! :)

Cheers!
~Shannon~
