The weather this week was wonderful. We were able to get outside a lot and we loved it. We had some rain. I ate at the high end of my calories most days and went over one day to 2200 calories plus some days I only got my minimum steps in so it was not a great week for diet and exercise.

Wow!! You really have been busy!! So sorry to hear about your friend's mom. So many people I know have lost loved ones this year already and it is barely started.

Yes, and I can understand that not working. That's why I have to be more careful. Today's been a good day for low carb. A nutty granola bar with dark chocolate, for breakfast and then for dinner we had our 1/4# burgers, which are very lean and I didn't have a bun or any chips, and stuck with my little ketchup, thousand island mixture and added a slice of tomato and a slice of onion and lettuce and also, a cheese single melted on top of the burger, and that has been it for the day. We had a late dinner, so I'm not famished at this hour! A day at a time and we can do it!!

Karen, I am absolutely HORRIBLE at eyeballing it. The worst. It doesn't work for me at all. I will eat a half serving or more more on high calorie foods when I do that. A serving of things is so small on some things and a lot more on others.

Ok and thank you. I've seen the popcorn seasonings, but we just get buy with Lawry's. One serving is the key. It is to measure it ahead of time, because I could eat a whole bag!

They sell seasoning salt for popcorn and I have it but, to be honest, I usually just buy a non-gmo brand Movie Theater popcorn already popped. One brand I use had popcorn, oil, butter, salt, and cream in it and 160 calories in 2 cups. There is not really anything in it I am not allowed to have. I just have a serving. Otherwise I don't really want it. Plain air-popped popcorn to me is like eating cardboard. Not a treat and not worth the calories.

The seasoned kind, what kind do you get or do you make your own? I dislike air-popped very much too. The cheddar cheese kind or the white cheese, are so salty, so I don't buy them. I try to stay away from the sugar kind, although I love the kettle popped!!

I love popcorn too but must admit that I don't want the air-popped kind. I want seasoned popcorn. And it does have fiber which is good.

Thank you and yes, we have to take care of ourselves. I know that we mean so much to our families, and we have to think of them not having us, and that's what can get our determination going. Our son loves to make buttered popcorn every night and usually it gets the best of me. I just got done eating a bag of non-buttered oil-popped popcorn, and it didn't even taste that good, but hopefully that will keep me away from the buttered yummy. My weaknesses are popcorn and anything sweet. I have weaned myself away from all pastas, rices, mostly all breads, except I've learn to like sprouted wheat bread. It affects our blood sugar differently. I need to think of myself more. I'm learning with every day!

Those are both terrible diseases. Thank goodness you don't have diabetes. You have lost a lot. I hope you will continue to take care of yourself so that you will be here for your family. I need to remember to do the same for my hubby's sake. We only have each other now.

Ok, that makes sense. Still so cool that he made seat covers, because that would be for certain cars too.

Yes, 63 and 67 is so young. Mom had Type 1 Diabetes since age 17 and Dad got ALS, and within a couple of years, he was gone. Those couple of years were mainly going from specialist to specialist to find what was wrong. He was even in a study at the UW in Seattle. When he finally figured out what was wrong, he was gone. Dad had great health up until then. Had high cholesterol, but didn't everybody back then?! He was on medicine for it too. Had Hay Fever and allergies and was on med. for that. He was within his weight range. Walked the dog around a huge block every day! My Sister died at age 54, and that is really young. She had complications with Type 2 Diabetes. She died in 2010, 6 years ago already. It was just her and I in the family. When she died, the next year I found SP. and went on to lose 70# and with RA and other life happening, I'm right back up to where I started! I feel that I'm getting a better handle on it again and it's the determination that made me do it before and I will do it again. We have to get mad!! So sorry for you losing your mom at such a young age too. It really hurts to lose parents that were so much in our lives in a good way. My Sister bugged the heck out of me most of the time and then now, I feel I'd have more compassion and would let all the things go. emoticon You only live once.

It was not a car factory. It was a factory that made seat covers for cars so they would have been on all kinds of brands. 63 and 67 are both too young to die in my opinion. My mom died at 65 and I was upset as I felt ripped off. I'm 64 now.

Wow, both your parents kept the home fires going. What kind of car factory did your dad work in? I told my guys about your dad and they thought that that was so impressive! It is! My Dad worked at Boeing all his working days. He was a carpenter.maintenance. He got in 35 years of service and passed away at the age of 67, so not a whole lot of retirement for him. Mom was a stay-at-home Mom and when my Sister and I were in high school, she picked up a couple of house cleaning jobs on the side, and she did that until she couldn't anymore, with her health. She lived to be 63, so Mom and Dad didn't have much retirement together. What there was, Dad took care of Mom. I always think of that being so sad, but they sure enjoyed life when they could and that's the best thing. We sure don't know how long we'll live, do we? I'm 58 now. Wow, where has life gone??

Dad didn't actually sew at the factory other than to see that the machine was fixed. He repaired the machines. He can sew though and once when my mom was hospitalized he sewed a party dress for me so I didn't miss the party. He also quilted, cleaned, and was a better cook than many women. I was spoiled as my parents were not gender oriented in household jobs. Mom could do home repairs. They both built our home together. Dad had other jobs, he was a butcher in an Italian grocery store when I was born. He was a carpenter. A contractor. In the maintenance department at a major university. Designed and built houses and buildings. Remodeled houses. My mother had other jobs too - was a bookkeeper, secretary of an oil corporation, had her own rental business.

I inherited all of my sewing machines but the J.C. Penney one which was mine. My paternal grandma and mom were both professional seamstresses at one time My dad was a sewing machine mechanic in a factory that made upholstery for cars. I also inherited my maternal grandma's sewing machine.

The weatherman must be right to say that about global warming. We sure can do without bitter cold, icy weather too. December and into January were normal temps, and it was so bitter cold and icy and tough on us all, especially with farming. We had an extra long Fall that went way into November, with having green grass, that we wondered if it would ever turn brown! Very strange and unusual and now this thaw coming. It must be due to global warming.

Your old antique Singer sounds like a beau! Did you inherit it? Our old one came from one of our friends who has always loved estate sales, etc. He's an old good friend, so we count it coming from someone special!

We are having unusual weather too and have had weird weather for the last 2 years. I saw on T.V. where Scientists say that due to global warming the weather is going to continue to change. Who knows what we will end up with. I hope for longer Spring and Fall and less bitter, snowy, icy, windy Winter and really hot, dry Summer.

We have one Singer treadle sewing machine. It is really neat.

We sure are having weird weather for January. I can't count on one hand anyway, to how many times we had a January thaw, like we're supposed to get the rest of the week. It's 38 degrees now and the snow is melting to beat the band. In the 40's coming for Saturday and then getting down to 30 degrees Sat. night. That could mean havoc. Actually, I've never seen a January thaw in my 34 years of living in MN. It's rare, but it does happen, they say.

As far as sewing machines, I have one that I use, and that's a White. I've had it for probably 10 years now. The one before that was a Sears, and my husband bought that for me in our first year of marriage. That lasted a good 20 years, with fixing on it and getting it repaired in the later years, and then I got so sick of fixing it! It mended a lot of farm clothes though. A lot!! I have one work shirt to put a patch on and then put a patch on the insulated bibs, and then I'm done for now. My machine isn't anything fancy. All the stitches and then some, but nothing digital and I'm happy with having something I can manage easily. Usually when there's a problem, it's me!! LOL! Our other sewing machine is just for looks and I love it. It's an antique treadle machine that's called New Home I think. Has a cover for the machine that looks like a mini coffin.

Happy Wednesday!

it was starting the freezing rain last night, with a little snow on top of it, but they didn't have any delays for the school this morning, so I'm thinking it's not that bad out there. I still have to go the Town Hall and take care of their sidewalks.

I have a bunch of sewing machines. I'm not sure exactly how many. I have 4 in cabinets. An old singer, another old singer, a J.C. Penney, a new Singer. A Brother. And a Montgomery Ward. So I can think of at least 6.

I hope you don't get the freezing rain!!!

Geez if you guys need any sewing machines let me know, I have about 7 of them at the whse, some are old and some are not so old, I usually sell the machines for $20.00, $25,00 if they are in a cabinet. I'm putting sewing on my bucket list when I retire, my Grandmother taught us how to sew when we were young, and some at 4-H. We're supposed to get some freezing rain tonight.

Our Home Ec wasn't much. We made one sleeveless pencil dress. Not very challenging. I was college bound so I didn't get many electives. We buy most of our clothes from Goodwill and Walmart so we don't spend a lot. My husband welds so when the clothes reach a certain point they are done for. Cheap blue jeans, pocket t- shirts, insulated jackets, and steel toes boots. My parents and relatives were into quilting but I inherited so many I have no room to put more.

We are much warmer here so I am enjoying that. I got all my laundry and cleaning done yesterday and some paperwork but have more to do today. I'm not sleeping as well as I should. Exercise is okay but ate too much yesterday.

Morticia, didn't you have home-ec in high school? That's where I learned most of my sewing. Of course, Mom taught me a lot too. I've never been much at working with patterns. I either made things too small or I didn't like. Nothing for myself except for a couple of tops, skirts years ago. I remember I made a darling jumper for our little girl when she was about 2. It wasn't long when she busted the seams in the bust. Ha, I must've really messed up on the measuring and cutting or something! I don't enjoy making clothes. Mending clothes is a must on the farm. We'd be throwing $ away if we turned around and bought jeans, jackets, etc., after a rip. I would love to get back into quilting, but my hands can't take too much sewing, with the machine or just by hand. But they sure can take more than they used to!! A couple of years I started a wall hanging that would be about 20 squares or so. The squares are of dark velvets and dark satins to match the living room. With embellishing of crazy quilting that I love. I should get back to that and just get it done. Now that I think about it, I got rid of a lot of material pcs. that I had collected for it. I have saved some, so I'll have to check out what I saved. Ha! I can always find more, but sometimes I do get too rash! Ha! Cleaning and more cleaning. Sometimes too much cleaning!

Ok, I've rambled on enough. I need to check the laundry too.

I wish I knew how to sew like you. My entire family can sew really well but me. I got the laundry and the cleaning done. No paperwork yet.

Thanks Morticia, on your gladness that Hope is still with us.s

Janice, so sorry that the steroids didn't help you. Hopefully you can get some needed relief from your doctor today. Crossing my fingers for you.

I've been doing laundry, cooking, heavy mending on the sewing machine of insulated bib overalls and an insulated jacket. Got the jacket done, which is needed more than the overalls. Wish I had some heavy black jeans material so I can patch a big hole where the pliars and pocket knife, always point down into the pocket. That's one of the most places to patch!! Ha!

We've been eating a lot of soup/chowder this Winter, and it sure feels good in the tummy! emoticon I think of my guys outside working in this cold too, and it feels good to them also!

I hope he finds someone soon and I hope that you get some relief from the doctor.

I got some work done outside this morning before the rain returns. I am doing laundry and am going to do some cleaning and paperwork if I have time.

Thanks for the support, I did have a helper until the 1st of Jan. when he retired, my boss is looking for someone to help with the 3 days again. I'm off to the Dr.s this morning for my 6 mo. check-up and to tell the Doc, that the steroids didn't work, I woke up with the pain in my neck...

We were supposed to have ice this morning for 2 hours but only got rain. The ice storm has moved north of us. I feel for the people up there. We will still get lots of rain but the temps are on the rise.

Karen, I don't like to go outside if the temps are below freezing, especially it if is windy and cloudy. I have seen coyotes and they have gotten within feet of me but have never seen a cougar. They are supposed to be here but I hope to not see one. So glad that Hope made it. That is totally frightening.

Janice, I wish you had some help to move that stuff. I hope you feel better soon!

Janice, sorry about you hurting more. Ouchy. We really feel in the mornings what we did the day before, don't we?! I hope you can get feeling better and better, with being off the beloved steroids now too. Thanks for your sympathy with our beloved doggy too. Her name is Hope, and it must of meant something that night.

Have a good Sunday.

I think I overdid it at the whse yesterday, I had to move a loveseat from the back dock into the whse- it wasn't that far, but I had to move a computer desk to make room for the loveseat and I pinched my finger while doing it, nice little bruise on it this morning, but I had to put some Icy Hot on my neck last night before bed. this is the last morning for the Steroid and my FBS was good for me this morning-109 almost back to normal. MORTICIAADDAMS hope you didn't get too much ice, I don't like to drive in that. Karen sorry to hear your dog was attacked last year, sounds like she's a great watchdog-very courageous

Yes Morticia, your ice storm I'm sure was still treacherous. Wow, we've sure had our share this Winter. It's 3 degrees now and dropping to zero and then back up to 22 degrees tomorrow. Warming up for the ice storm they say. That's usually what happens or snow.

I don't like being alone outside when it's dark either. We have a bright yard light, but still it seems eerie. I don't worry about people as much as wild animals. We have our share of them lurking at night and I don't want to be attacked. Probably so rare, but could happen. Coyotes are around here all the time and cougars. In fact, our one dog was attacked by a cougar a year ago. It put a slice in her neck. It was a shock that she lived through it. He didn't touch the jugular or she would've been gone quickly. The vet could tell by the looks of it, that it was a cougar. She's always been the main protector and that's no doubt what our little dolly was doing. She hardly goes out that far anymore. Of course, it doesn't help that she has Hips Dysplasia, and she hobbles along and doesn't go gallavanting as much anymore! She'll be 5 years old pretty soon.

Keep safe and warm!

Batteries, milk, and bread would have made sense to me too. And even the water but fighting over bananas baffles me.

I don't like to be alone outside at night. I find it creepy. LOL.

We ended up with ice on the trees, a crystal ice storm. Pretty but treacherous. We have had worse ones though. Our ice melted today but is supposed to return tonight and be worse. I hope it goes north of us. Kansas is getting hit hard. Missouri got hit hard. We are 80 miles east of St. Louis and not in the 2 worst zones but in the glazing zone..

We were able to get out and get the mail and go to the nearest Dollar General 5.5 miles from here.

We don't have any of our tax papers yet.

Yes, I thought it was interesting about the bananas too. I've sure seen them to get low though, and I'm really picking when choosing them. Got to be on the green side without any spots and not a big bunch either, because we don't eat them that fast. It sure is necessary to have good light when it's so dark. Wow, the full moon would've been so useful!

Morticia, did you get your ice storm as predicted? We're not to have any harmful precipitation until Monday and Tuesday and then an ice storm is coming. We have 10 degrees right now. Above! Ha!

I've been busy with doing taxes and just about have them wrapped up. A few more things to get in the mail and then that'll be it. I love doing them when I'm doing them, but it's the matter of starting the project, is what takes me a while! I think that that's the way with a lot of things.

Happy Saturday to you all!

that is interesting about the bananas......LOL, usually they run out of batteries, milk and bread around here. My interior light in the car has been going out for about 6 mos. now, I tap it & it'll come on, last night I think it finally died, went to get out of the car that I park in the barn/garage and my flashlight bit the dust also, thank goodness there was a full moon so I could see where I was going, didn't want to get attacked by the bunnies that hide under the bush. Have a great & productive weekend, I'm off to Zumba & then work

Weird weather here too. We have seen it all in the past week! I agree with Karen about bad winters. We have had winters where we had snow on the ground for months and snow mountains. Nowhere to put all the stuff.

The bunnies may not be the tulips eaters but something sure loves them. LOL.

Everyone was out shopping yesterday getting ready for the ice storm. People were having meltdowns because the stores had run out of things people wanted or felt they needed. One was water. A woman whined to me 3 times about it. Not sure what she thought I could do about it. LOL. The produce man said that they were out of bananas and that if he found a banana in the back he would not bring it out to keep from having a recurrence of more banana fights. LOL. Sounds like he had an interesting day. I had no idea that people stocked up on bananas before a storm. LOL. Strange. So far the ice storm here is not as bad as it could have been. Not a crystal ice storm.

The weather has been so changeable and like my DH was saying today, we're thankful for that, because we've had Winters, that just stay way below zero and stay there and then tons of snow. I remember one Winter when it was like this, and we had to move our mail box to the other driveway because that area didn't get so much snow. The snow was way up to our living room windows and we heard of places in SD, where it was as high as the 2nd story, now that would be a lot. My DH would take our two kids on the tractor down to the highway, where they would catch the school bus, because the bus could never get up our road. That was a cold and long Winter and yes, it must've been about 20 years ago now. Our son is 30 and our daughter 27, and I know it was when they were in grade school. Wow, where does all the time go?!

Morticia, it sounds like your place would be lovely for a bunch of bunnies!! emoticon These bunnies that we have, aren't brave enough to get up to the house area, or the flowers, which I like. Hopefully, they can keep their little cotton tails away from eating any flowers!! LOL!

You guys are so funny!!! LOL. You know me................... a few hundred or thousand bunnies isn't going to bother me. LOL. I grow mostly flowers and shrubs that animals don't like to eat unless it is inside the electric fence. I gave up on tulips because they were always eaten. We had baby bunnies once. Their mom left them out in the open in the yard!!! I wouldn't mind have some pet bunnies.

Doing some vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, catching up on other chores inside and outside before the ice storm on Friday. I hope it doesn't arrive. Send snow or nothing instead!

Janice, thanks for responding about that dear gal. I always feels so sorry for those who have noticeable problems. My heart goes out to her.

I'm glad you feel better with the steroids. They're the miracle drugs. Love them and hate them at the same time. Can't have them forever for pain. Bummer! Ha!

Our temps will be dipping down in the way below zero again, so we're bracing up for it!

Hi Karen, the Handicapped woman was born with a genetic disorder- she does pretty well for herself, she just can't think of things on her own. The Dr. put me on a six day steroid pill, and the pain my neck feels a lot better this morning. and Morticia if you want rabbits, I'm sure I could send you a few from my house....LOL, have a great day all

Morticia, maybe you could pick up a few bunnies at a local farm or town. All you need is 2, and then you'll have lots of bunnies! Ha!

Janice, that poor lady who's handicapped. Do you know what's wrong? Wow, I know that there are a lot of people who are worse off than I am. I think of that when I'm having a bad RA day. Also, I hope your pain in the neck get better soon. Pain in the neck! Ha, but not funny!!

We have it 2 degrees outside now and dropping. Has been a wicked day as far as weather. Cold and windy and drifting across the roads and zero at times. My DH made it to and back from his township meeting earlier, thank goodness. That was his report.

actually the Handicapped woman is only 45, and I called her father to tell her to stay inside, she got on the phone and said" I'm waiting inside" she is a cutie. Took her to the Dentist and she made out good, no cavities. I had a weird pain in the right side of my neck yesterday, I went to the Dr.s this morning and he seemed to think I had a pulled muscle, which I probably did moving furniture on Sat.We were supposed to have our County meeting for the Legion Aux. tonight, it was cancelled due to bad weather ( and I didn't feel all that good) as of now there isn't any snow yet.....oops, we should have had the meeting.

Janice, I hope your lady doesn't wait out in the cold either. This is the type of weather where you can't hardly bundle of enough, especially with just sitting or standing in once place. My guys on our dairy farm, bundle up like no tomorrow and keep moving all the time. It's when they stand in one spot, they feel it all the more. It's 1 degree above here now and supposed to climb up in the teens. emoticon

We don't have any bird feeders here anymore, and I miss them, but our 2 dogs keep them all away, including the squirrels and rabbits. We have several rabbits and the dogs have so much fun trying to sniff them out. It's rather cute actually. They love the machine shed where there's hay and straw stored, so they have nice warm bedding. I love bunnies and I don't want the dogs or anything else to get them, but I also don't want a harem here. Ha, you know the old saying, "breeding like rabbits." Very true!! But they're so cute with their little cotton tails when they run here and there. When the dogs are inside, that's when I can see them frolicking out the living room window!!

Happy Monday to you all and keep warm!

It really does help to have a feeder for the squirrels too. They don't love corn but they will eat it if it is a lot of work to get seeds. I hope your elderly friend does not wait outside. That is too cold!

so far the baffle I put on the bird feeder is working, the squirrels are using my brother's corn feeder he put out and leaving the bird seed alone. It is about 3' above zero, I have to take the handicapped woman to her Dental appt this morning, I hope she stays inside til I get there, she usually waits for me in her driveway.

I am getting cabin fever even though we went to town yesterday and got some gas in the truck and went to Wal-mart to get some skin care cream. We go through tons of this stuff at this time of year. The joys of winter!!!. We still have snow here and I am looking forward to it being gone. I really don't like snow. We cleaned pet cages today. We have tons of birds at the bird feeder still. The squirrel who lives by the house is at the corn feeder often too and everyone uses the electric water bowl. The doe with the injured leg comes with another doe at night and uses the salt block, water bowl, and eats some corn and acorns on the patio. They stay a long time. It is supposed to get above freezing tomorrow so maybe we can get rid of the snow before more ice on Friday. Hate winter.

My dad took me to a slaughter house when I was a little girl to see a hog butchered and it was horrible. Not something a child should see. I don't think my dad actually understood what was involved in it. At this place they hung the pigs in the air by their back feet and slit their throats while they squealed and the blood flowed. One of the men put a cup under the flowing blood and drank it. Yes, you read that right. I never knew if it was for my benefit to scare me half to death, impress me or what, but it left a lasting impression on me. I didn't say anything, didn't flinch but was quietly frightened. I'm always wary of strangers now, especially men.

I know my dad regretted taking me there and that it sounds strange but he grew up in a small town and was not acquainted with farm life. He used to hunt but that is different. My dad had horses and I think later cows as he talked about having to help them with difficult deliveries and I never understood if he did it or the vet but I can't see him putting his arm inside a cow up to his shoulder. I have a lot of respect for vets who specializes in farm animals because putting a prolapsed uterus back in and helping with a breach is a total nightmare.

My mom butchered chickens though. My grandma, her mom, couldn't and when she tried to kill a chicken she would throw up. So my mother had to do it from when she was a young girl. I am more like my grandma. I don't want to ever have to kill anything but would to save my life or that of a loved one.

I watch the vet shows on T.V. and they show a lot of what you mentioned with the cows. When my step dad was an owner of the dairy we never talked about stuff like that and I never experienced it. I treated the cows as pets too when I was there which was not often. Our horse was there with the cows but we lived in town.

I even treated the neighbor cows here like pets when they had them years ago. When my son was little he thought I could talk to the neighbor's cows because they would come when I called them. LOL.

I used to work as an interior decorator so I love furniture. LOL. Too much. I have too much furniture.

Wow, you do have alot of guns. We have around 6 altogether, I would say. As far as actually watching a butchering, I have never seen the actual killing, have just heard the gun. My DH hates doing it, and we usually have them taken to the meat locker for meat or if they can make it, they get shipped to the sale barn. My DH has done very few and is very respectful of me and it's been done way away so I don't have to see anything. If he would have to kill one, that would never get butchered. We've never done our own butchering. That gets so messy and isn't that clean, so they get hauled out to what we call the pot hole on our farm. All things like that and it just goes back to the earth. I've seen deer butchered right before me and that doesn't seem so bad I guess, because it didn't cost us anything and we didn't fall in love with it like the cows. So much of the time, and rarely, a cow will just die on her own. We feed and water them as long as we can and she'll just get weak and go. We had one cow lately, who calved, and her legs just went out from her. Couldn't walk, so she was useless. We had the vet out and he pumped her full or steroids, etc. and that didn't work and she just got weaker and faded away. That's always so sad to see. I cry for them. Our son has made each calf a pet and with the 90-some cows that we milk now, they're all friendly. To the point where they can get frustrated too, because the cows like to stand and get petted, and when it's time to move to get into the parlor, they just stand there at times. LOL! But they eventually get it! You can't move a 1200# or so cow, just like that!

I'll never forget when my DH and I were first married and with me growing up in Seattle, I didn't know a whole lot about farming!! We were living in a mobile home on the place while my in-laws were in the big house, where we live now. They butchered the chickens when they were ready and this day was the day. I stayed in the house and refused to go out, and I cried the whole time I heard the chicken crying and then the ax came down. Oh my, I still get the heebie-jeeebies!! I remember my DH's Aunt calling and she told me that I couldn't be a good farm wife if I couldn't butcher hens!!! My word, I was barely out of the city! I forgave her though and loved her deep;u to her dying day. She must've just had a bad day, that day!!

This is getting too long, but I'll tell you one more thing. When we were first married and living back here, my DH and I went out in the one area where there were a lot of striped gophers and we played target practice. It sounds so mean, but they are a pest and there were a lot that year. I shot with my DH's Grandmother's .22 gun and it was a good shot and I really learned how to shoot on that one. That was my first try at guns and pretty much my last. I respect them so much too, and can barely touch them. We live on a river bottom, so the guns have been handy at some varmints, like raccoon, skunks, weasels, when we had chickens. A coyote every now and then. A stray dog I remember, that appeared out of nowhere, and tore into a newborn heifer calf and killed her. That was a no-no, and my DH ran and got a run and put him away! He was a bad dog. Probably starved, but noone touches our heifers!! Or baby bulls actually, before they get shipped to a neighbor!

Ok, I've said enough. I wish there were more good things on the news too. It seems like the bad things just feed more bad things. It's becoming more and more common. Hopefully your DH and you will never have to use them. For us too.

Have a good night.

We have guns too. Actually a lot of guns but we don't find much use for them actually. I have a FOID card and own 2 guns myself I inherited from my mother - one a semi-automatic. I have never done anything with mine but target practice. I am afraid of guns. I respect them. I have them for protection and hope to never have to use them. If I or my husband were having serious medical problems I would have them removed from the house though. Ours are in a gun cabinet. I would hate to have to put a cow down but it would be better than letting it suffer. Personally, I'm glad that we have men for jobs like that. I know some women could do it but I'm not one of them. My husband has had to put animals out of their misery and it really bothers him. Have you had to watch that being done Karen? The news is depressing. I wish they would spend more time talking about positive things.

I agree with Morticia too, that many, many people aren't following the ten commandments at all.

We don't have a tv, but we can see all we want online, and I hardly ever go there. It's so depressing. emoticon

Karen, it is not necessary to go to church or claim to be a Christian to believe that the 10 Commandments are worth living by. At a minimum, they could be considered the guidelines to creating and maintaining a civilized society. And I believe that Morticia is correct in pointing out that, these days, many professed Christians are ignoring both the Commandments and the Golden Rule.

I agree with you that mentally ill people shouldn't be allowed to have guns, period. So many shouldn't, period. We have guns because of varmints that can come up on our farm and also for hunting, that we hardly ever do, but also it for down cows, and that's not a fun thing at all.

You'd think with being mentally ill, he would turn the gun on himself first. We sure feel for those people though and I'm sure there are alot left untreated. They even say that. Sad.

It sounds like the guy was mentally ill. Mentally ill people should not be able to purchase or use guns. I'm sure we will hear from ISIS soon enough. I agree about the Ten Commandments but even devout Christians are often not following them any more. I'm not sure why. I don't think some churches preach the gospel any more. They are more of a social club.

This was such horrific news! What an idiot! Like my DH has always said, "Why didn't he shoot himself first?!" So true! I was afraid they were going to say that it was tied to ISS again. I hate that word! But it doesn't sound like he was or even Muslim. Who knows. They'll find something that made him do it. He'll come up with some excuse. Don't we wish with all our hearts that everybody would obey the first commandments? I don't want to sound all preachy, but if everyone was religious to worshipped God, they would know them and hopefully follow them. So many people are way off in left field and that's not a good place. Oh my, what sorrow for the family of those that were killed and the injured ones too. So sad! emoticon

I was floored. I mean Ft. Lauderdale?????? Good grief. Why Ft. Lauderdale? When I turned on the T.V. and saw the footage and heard it was Ft. Lauderdale I thought I was hearing wrong. Obviously no place is safe.

I totally agree. It's frightening. I don't about where you live but where I live tons of drunks, drug addicts, violent people, felons, and crazy people are armed to the hilt. I worry about going to Wal-mart even.

And the icing on the cake is that the newly elected president has openly expressed that he doesn't trust our security agencies. Hopefully after he gets this first briefing from them he will have a clearer understanding of the dangers this nation is facing. We need to be protected from these nuts!

You ladies make me feel grateful to live in the warmer South. We will (maybe) get our first freeze this weekend. They are predicting 27 Sunday a.m. so it will likely not fall below 30 at our house. Our trees seem to keep us warmer in winter and cooler in summer than the "official" reports.

Janice, that sounds horrible and I think we all can relate. I can't believe how nasty some people are. It is why some people smell so bad as they couldn't possible leave a restroom in that kind of shape and not be personally a mess too. You can just imagine what their homes are like. It is disgusting!! When I was in college I cleaned for a living and was good at it and had some really high end clients. One of them referred me to her neighbor who desperately need help. He was a city government official and they had moved away. They had rented out their executive home to this young woman who was dating a doctor I worked with. The place was horrifying. There were piles of feces all over ALL the bathroom floors. They didn't have any pets. As a nursing student I knew it was human feces. People can get sick and have an accident but they later clean it up. They don't defecate like dogs. My ex husband suggested that maybe the plumbing wasn't working but so what!! Go buy a porta potty!! Someone else said that maybe the heifer wanted revenge on her landlord. I told both the landlord and my client that I would not be able to help her and why and that she needed to hire a professional cleaning crew who wore gowns, gloves, shoe covers, respirators. I can't think of a single reason why someone would crap in the floor like this but every time I see this woman I think about how disgusting she is and how a doctor could date and later marry her. What a revolting pig!! The doctor and her were a couple of "sick" perverted puppies.

Jo-Ann, I feel very blessed to have time to take care of myself when I need to. I wish you could to. I was in your shoes for years and not being able to take care of me when I needed to affected my health adversely. I hope it doesn't yours.

went to work at the Town Hall this morning( 5:41am) to clean, I went into the men's bathroom and thought I was going to heave, it stunk to high heaven and someone had left the toilet bowl a mess. I wrote a message to my boss that I REFUSE to clean the men's room, when the Deputy Town Clerk arrived I showed her the note, she checked it out and she was gagging when my boss came in, she asked what was going on and I told her to go check it out, she was like I don't need to, I see what's going on, She asked me who they could get to clean it, I told her if they make me do it "I QUIT", they got the message, they got the guy from the garage to come in and clean most of it.I'll still have to go in tomorrow morning to finish cleaning it.

Got my shopping and errands done yesterday. I have been watching it snow all day but we are not getting a lot and it is the light fluffy kind. Not the kind that packs down and causes serious problems. The ground is covered and it's really cold. Tons of birds are at the feeders. A squirrel came and ate some corn. I have seen deer and turkeys in the woods. They all love the salt block and their heated water bowl. My housework is caught up. I have some things I should do outside but I left out extra food so the animals should be okay. I worry more about them than anything. I am having trouble sleeping again and am having some G.I. trouble so I am having to take it easy food wise. Arthritis is acting up too so I have to baby that also. I'm a weenie sometimes. So I am staying inside and am doing "body maintenance". Shaving. Teeth whitening. Tweezing, Pumacing. Irrigating my ears. Nail trimming. A facial with a peel off mask, exfoliating scrub, toner, moisturizer. Calgon bubble bath. Body creams. Hair trimming with deep conditioning. When I'm done I feel amazing and I could almost pass for human. LOL. I had a nice salad for lunch and I am fixing a taco salad for supper for the "heat. I later will do a crossword puzzle, read a magazine, look at some cookbooks, watch some T.V,. and have some sleepy time tea.

Sunny and cold today. Snow tomorrow. I got tons done yesterday so today I can do small things I didn't get done yesterday.

MORTICIAADDAMS you have been busy...Mon. afternoon I was getting ready to go to the elderly lady house to get her garbage out, when the phone rang and it was her Lifeline alert, she fell in the kitchen and I rushed over to her house. The Firemen were already there, we got her up and in a chair, she's 98, she was cleaning out her garbage can and when she went to dump the can into the sink she lost her balance. I check on her and bring in her newspapers and she has another young girl to come in and get her meals, so between the 2 of us we keep an eye on her for her kids who live out of state. Yesterday, she was right back to normal, she is like the energizer bunny, but we both told her, no more doing like you used to do, let us help.

Sometime you have to put a baffle over the feeder too as squirrels can jump long distances. They are very sly. We have a baffle below plus the squirrel proof feeder but they still sometimes can jump from a tree and land on top and try to get some seeds.

So foggy yesterday and drizzly. I picked up limbs outside and we emptied the last fountain and covered it. The little squirrel who lives in a hickory tree outside my window has been busy for hours adding more leaves to her nest so it must be going to get cold soon. There are lots of birds at the feeders too which is another sign. We may get our first snow soon!

I am doing well. Eating less, moving more.

I fixed ham and beans, a romaine vinaigrette salad with cheese, black olives, and green onions and baked apples for New Year's Day.

Chicken, slaw, and green beans yesterday.

A front went through today and dropped the temps. We may get snow soon but we are finally ready.

Today I cleaned, vacuumed, did 3 loads of laundry, cleaned the porches/patios/pavers, burned the trash, took out the compost, recyclables, filled the feeders. So I'm ready for bad weather if we have it.

I ended up buying a baffle to put on the pole, then I put a smaller bird feeder on the pole(without the baffle on it yet) when I got home from work this morning, all the birdseed was on the ground and the feeder emptied. UGH!!!!!! I'm going out this afternoon and put the baffle on and see what happens
