Good luck Marcie! I suppose you could say I'm "new" again too. I started this thread awhile ago, but went off the south beach diet around the holidays. (I've always had trouble with dieting.) Good luck with the diet. It is very easy to do compared to some other ones that I have tried. Good luck!

I've been on SB for almost a year now (January 3) and it's worked out great for me. Lots of changes in my life and all with the help of SB. Good luck!

I am new to this team but, I am not new to South Beach. I started on it the beginning of this summer and within a few months, lost almost fifty pounds. Unfortunately, I fell off. That is why I am starting back but with some support! Hope this will be more long term this time!

Just wanted to pop in and say yippe for one more lb gone!! wohoo!

I appreciate everyone's encouraging comments on my page :-)

I have just started a Topic in the Eating on the Beach team and it's called 'Holiday Eating Plan-Guidlines for maintaining control' and I'm asking people to contribute tips and offer helpful advice to us SB NEWBIES who are having our first holiday on SB.

All those who will comment--we appreciate your input and help!

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner..and then Christmas the next corner...wow!

Have a wonderful day to all!!!

You could try some Deli meats for breakfast. Also Laughing Cow cheese is really good (I surprised myself that I liked it). The first two weeks are really difficult but you get passed them. I would look to the menus in the book to get some breakfast ideas. It gets so much easier when you can start adding fruits and healthy grains back in. I don't have the book handy and it's been quite a while since I did Phase 1 so I'm not remembering what I ate for those couple of weeks.

Not counting calories is one of the good things about SB, but you have to remember that a pound lost is still the difference of 3500 calories between intake and burn. Just because you're not counting calories doesn't mean that you can eat to your heart's content. Portion control is still key.

It does get easier though and after a few weeks you get full much, much quicker. I used to think I needed two hamburgers on buns with french fries to feel satisfied and now one burger (no bun), a couple of pickle slices, some homemade cole slaw or (in phase 2) baked sweet potatoes fries)and I'm good. Having legal snacks in the house is a must! Sugar free fudge pops, pudding cups, or Jell-O really satisfies those cravings for sweets.

My biggest junk food craving has always been pretzels which are a huge no-no on SB. I did find pretzels in the Health Food store made out of spelt which is a legal grain on SB. I'm guessing that they are legal and I do indulge in a couple of them once in a while. They taste great and just a few goes a long way towards satisfying my junk food cravings (especially during that time of the month).

What I did find during the first couple of months was that I was very fatigued. I also spoke to a friend of mine who said that he couldn't do SB because of the fatigue factor and the fact that it interferred with his job (he's a stage actor). That does go away soon and with the loss in pounds you really start to feel increased energy.

All in all SB has been a great diet for me. It's working and I'm feeling great!

Buttercup is right about being lightheaded when you are working out the first few days. I started this Monday, worked out Monday and today and I am feeling very sluggish and light headed. After 48 hours of being on the diet I went from weighing 143.5 to 139. I did this diet a year ago for about a week and lost 7 lbs. It does work!! I am also having a hard time choking down the eggs in the morning. I am not a big egg person anyway. I have been eating LOTS of nuts for snacks as well as the string cheese and Laughing Cow cheese stuffed into celery. I just eat whenever I feel hungry...which is a lot. I'm not really worried about calories, the book says not to count calories. If I see the weight starting to stay the same or creep back on, I will get a little more strict. Until then, I am just trying to stay satisfied and keep away from the bread and sweets...and alcohol!

Also, it helps me to drink a lot of Crystal Light when I am having the sugar cravings. That and Jello.

Hello!

I just started the SBD on Monday 11/6 (phase 1) and so far so good!
What I would love to know is what do you eat for breakfast to add variety on Phase 1? SO far I have had eggs every morning and have a feeling I am going to get tired of these really quick!
What are your favorite snacks? All I have had so far is low fat string cheese.....
Thanks in advance,
Diane

Hi all,

So glad I found this group!! I have been on the SBD for about 6 weeks, I didn't loose much (5.5 pounds), but I feel so much better. I hope to loose 10 pounds this month, I am still a bit confused as to some of the guidelines...how much lean meat do I get in phase 2? It seems like I eat all the time, is that normal, because it doesn't feel like that will allow me to loose weight (I have read the book on this but I just need to know from "real" people if it truly works like it says it does--)
I am so excited; I have been struggling with pre-diabetic issues since my son was born and this diet is the only one, literally, that has allowed me to have any success.

Have a great night all. emoticon

Actually no dairy for the first two weeks except ricotta cheese (low fat). They are hard, but you can get passed them. I can't believe I've been on it for almost 10 months. When I reach a particularly frustrating plateau I go back to Phase 1 for a week.

Good luck to all!

Well,

I don't follow the meal plans because I don't have the prep time. I just make sure of the following:

1, 8 glasses of water a day
2. 4.5 cups of vegies
3. 1-2 cups of milk or yogurt
4. lean protein
5. limit the nuts to 15 (I never can)
6. no sweets, alcohol, fruits, starchy vegies or grains.

Generally salads or steamed vegies with a side of protein for each meal. Good luck to ya!

Hi There,

I am just restarting SBD, and I was hoping that we could all pull together. Today was Day 1 Phase 1. ( I did cheat with a few blueberries though) oops.

I have done the diet before, and it is just a matter of getting past the first 5 days. After that your body adjusts to things and you feel a lot better. I don't recommend heavy evercise for the first few days anyway--you might get light headed.

I originally lost about 30lbs, but I have been gaining it back since I quit and started on the junk food again. I miss it and I felt so much healthier doing it, and really proud of my accomplishment. I went and threw out all my fat closes and bought all new clothes, which are now all too tight and uncomfortable.
emoticon

Anyway, back to the drawing board for me. Good luck! If you have any questions, let me know, as I know the system pretty well. Also, you may have a bit of difficulty going to the washroom during phase 1, so get some ground flax seed to help with that problem.

emoticon take it easy

Welcome!

I've been on SB for about 9 months and have lost 102lbs so far. It's a good diet, very healthy and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

Phase one is tough but it's only for two weeks and you can do anything for two weeks. I would bring the book with you to the market and refer back to it when making food choices.

Just remember that no dairy (except low-fat cheese), fruit, or carbs during those two weeks. After that you can slow introduce those things back in.

Good luck. You can always e-mail me if you have any questions or if I can help. There isn't a lot of activity on this board but you can e-mail me anytime either through my private e-mail or Sparks mail. Welcome!

Maryann

Hello,

I actually just started using this website again on Thursday and I just started the South Beach Diet yesterday. If you guys have any tips or "words of wisdom" for me, I would love anything. I'm still trying to figure out all of the foods I can and can't eat in Phase I. I bought the book yesterday, so I'm reading up on that. It's good to see that there's a group on here.

A little about me: I'm 22, almost 23, years old and I work a lot. I just graduated from college and I'm trying to get into a better workout routine. This is kinda generic, so sorry. Hope you all are doing well.
