Hi Candy/CRM - I learned this guideline here from Kierae and she uses the official South Beach site (I am not a member there). I did make an error, however. You may have 8oz (1 serving) of V8 and count it towards 1/2 cup of veggies. So you still need to eat 4 cups of veggies, as I said, but the serving size of V8 is bigger than I thought.

The thing about juice is that they don't "stick" with you. Whether a veggie juice, or a fruit juice, you're far better off eating the original fruit/veggie than the juiced version.

Using juices as a beverage, rather than as a food, can get us into trouble on quiet a few levels.
They won't last long, and we'll get hungry before we should, which can lead to eating inappropriately.
The fruit juices concentrate the sugars and the veggie juices lose a lot of the valuable fiber.

As for the low-sodium V8...yes it's better than the regular, but one 8-oz glass has 140 mg of sodium, and that's a lot out of your daily sodium budget not to mention you calorie budget) for a few sips of liquid.

MUCH better to have a glass of cold, icy water with a sliced tomato!

Remember......juices are NOT beverages...they are foods!

You are only allowed to count 1 cup of V8 (CORRECTED) towards your veggie allowance, so you need to eat 4 cups of veggies every day, no matter how much V8 you drink. Are you tracking your food? Watch your calories and especially your sodium intake; if you are not drinking the low sodium variety of V8 the sodium can really add up. I guess as long as you aren't replacing veggies or any other food group -- or water! -- with V8, aren't going over on your calories or sodium you can have as much as you want.
