Yup sf ice cream is fine - limit is the 100 calorie sweet allowance we have.

Hi Ladies!

New to the team & SB. Just finished Phase 1 & started phase 1.5 Monday. Had a quick question - I have the "old" book which says no ice cream allowed...but read on one of the threads that SF ice cream is ok. My question is this: Is Breyer's Carb Smart ok on phase 1.5 (It's made with Splenda)? I've only introduced WW flour for 1 meal a the past two days - no cravings. blood sugar's are rock solid around 115-120 in the am (woo hoo!).

The NI for Breyer's is: 90 Cal, 6g Fat, 15mg Cholesterol, 13g Carbs, 4g Fiber, 4g Sugar, 5g Sugar Alcohol, 2g Protein.

Ingredients: Milk, Skim Milk, Cream, Sorbitol, Polydextrose, Whey, Glycerine, Natural Flavor, Cellulose Gel, Propylene Glycol Monoesters, Mono And Diglycerides, Cellulose Gum, Carob Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Sucralose (Splenda Brand), Acesulfame Potassium, Carrageenan.

Thanks!!!
Fiona

responded to your other thread and looked but in a nutshell - tracker looks good, had some extra serving of nuts which can stall you..and popcorn (which technically isn't allowed in p1 but not a huge issue).

Can someone check my tracker for any tips??

I'm on day 12 of Phase 1 and I see no weight change since Monday. [I also posted under Phase 1.] Thanks!!!

I won't keep the tracker open for very long since I don't like unsolicited advice on what I eat. Thanks!

Also know that in phase 1 calories tend to hover around the low range - it is just for the two weeks so I wouldn't stress as long as they are averaging out in that 1100-1200 range.

A couple things: some of it was just food choices, ie pork, cheese and salad dressing. Salad dressing - take a package of dry hidden valley and mix with a container of ff sour cream or ff greek yogurt (16oz). You now have a great dip/dressing (you can thin it out w/milk if you want). Calories drop to basically one calorie over the original calories for the sour cream (personally I just count the sour cream). Also ironically the premade Hidden Valley has hfcs in it if you are trying to avoid it.

The cheese - try to limit to one or two servings. Anything more stalls. Try getting in some dairy (milk or plain yogurt).

Wouldn't stress about the fat being at the high end IF its healthy fats (ie cooking w/olive oils, etc).

Oh get those 4 1/2 cups of veggies in!

Hi, I'm on day 3 of phase 1, and I'm concerned about nutrition goals. I went over the recommended fat on my first two days, even though my calories for those days were at the opposite ends of my range. I haven't had lunch yet today and I'm already approaching my minimum fat intake.

I think I can substitute the Bolthouse yogurt dressings for the Hidden Valley, but I'm not sure what else to do. Also, I learned today to just measure out a serving of hummus rather than eating directly from the container. I tried cutting back on my fat calories on Tuesday, and ended up below my calorie goal. Any other suggestions?

Pineapple is a bit up there on the glycemic scale so it falls into the rare occasion category and of course not at all in p1. Once you are well established in p2, you can "test" it out and see if it triggers for you. I am betting that as a marinade versus straight up juice/fruit, it may not be an issue.

Hi, I'm on day 5 of phase 1. I make awesome beef jerky. My favorite marinade is low sodium soy sauce, garlic, ginger and a small can of crushed pineapple. I understand that pineapple is a high gi food. Is it ok in a marinade? Thanks!

You can have more than one serving of beans so no worries there. Just make sure you get those veggies in since you are still missing some. emoticon

Thanks for the input Kierae. I am going to the store here after work and picking up some fatfree half and half. The last time I did Phase I in October I was able to use 2tbps of half and half and a 1tsp of flavored creamer. I need to pull back on that. Maybe I should try to get the sugarfree.

I made a few mistakes yesterday on program but they weren't horrible. I feel much better today and I accidentally had two bean choices. Hope that doesn't mess me up. I ended up about 114 carbs for the day and after two intense military workouts today with my unit I think the 1 cup of beans was much needed LOL!

We ran 3 miles in under 30 mins and then had a heavy lifting session. Thanks again!

On the creamer - if you limit yourself to the one cup of coffee and limit the creamer to 2 tbsp MAX, it's not going to be a "dealbreaker" unless it triggers cravings. But you are showing 4 tbsp of creamer for 160 calories which is alot of wasted calories and sugar - any chance of doing half of the flavored creamer and the other half and half? IE wean yourself down so you aren't sucking up so much HFCS.

You need 4 1/2 cups of veggies every day - you are short (you have 3 cups).

Hope that helps and don't hesitate to holler for anything else!

Ok I am starting Phase I again and I am so mentally ready for it. Can you look at the tracker for the March 6 and tell me what you think. Please note I drink regular creamer flavored. I just can never give that up and use the sugar free. I do still see great results in Phase I. I also tend to stay in this phase for at least 3 weeks. Then I will go into Phase 1.5 very slowly this time and monitor how I feel adding back in fruit and whole grains. Thanks for your help and any ideas.

Some items I am trying to incorporate to get rid of boredom are:
White Chicken Chili w White beans no flour (Chicken Broth)
Ground Turkey Chili w Kidney Beans
No Taco SouthWest salad
Tilapia cooked with salt free Mrs Dash a few capers:)
California Turkey Rolls Phase I recipe
Spinach and Mushrooms added for volume:)

Looking at your prior days, you had too much cheese going on and not enough veggies. IE usually about 3 servings which can slow your weight loss down (some folks are more sensitive to it). Today's food looked good. Also some folks lose differently, ie you may lose more in the second week than the first. The weight will come off but it is going to take time.

I make a pot of chili every week. Its a great way to get in your beans and lots of veggies, too. Try it with ground chicken or turkey -- or keep it vegetarian -- for less fat.

You can have ranch - get a package of the dry ranch mix by hidden valley and mix it with fat free sour cream (or ff plain yogurt) and BAM - instant dip mix which you can use on salads (or thin it out with ff milk if you like).

And your chili is fine...beans are good in any form as long as no sugar involved

Hey Pam,

Thanks so much. I forgot about the ricotta counting as cheese. Probably from the carb brain. haha. I will correct that. I will also add the milk and change the dressing (I will miss my ranch, sniff, sniff). On the beans I thought I had that covered with the chili. Do I need to drop the chili and just do straight beans?

Thanks again,
Lisa

Hi Lisa

Your carbs will be very low in Phase 1; that will improve in Phase 2. Don't worry about fat if you are eating "good fats", like avocado, nuts and EVOO.

Good job with the veggies today!

Watch your cheese servings. Riccotta is a cheese, not dairy or protein, on South Beach. You want no more than two servings of cheese in Phase 1 and you seem to be getting three.

Consider adding beans, 1/2 cup per day. Do you tolerate milk? You should have 2 cups of milk or NSA/fat-free yogurt daily. Both of these things will improve your carb intake.

You can reduce your fat and calories -- making room for more good food -- by making salad dressing with EVOO and balsamic vinegar. Add herbs and even some sweetener if you like.

...Pam

Hey there - a couple things pop out. First fat may go over on some days - its normally good fat and just food choices for the day so I wouldnt stress. You are cheese heavy - it really is best to keep your servings to one or two max. Cheese stalls out some folks. Make sure you get those 4 1/2 cups of veggies in. Carrots is a phase 2 veggie.

1 - Enter the recipe into Sparkrecipes.com. Each time someone views the recipe there is a spot on the recipe page to add it to today's Nutrition Tracker.

2 - Under "Add a Food" on the Nutriton Tracker, select the tab "Food Groupings". This is for a meal you frequently eat, but don't want to share as a recipe.

Looks good - be careful with the nuts. We are limited to one serving which is one ounce. Although occasionally to have more isn't going to hurt you, it can stall weight loss if done consistently. Good job on getting veggies in!

Yes I'm in Phase 1. I thought I was safe because there are 0 sugars in the veggie burgers. I will check the ingredients list when we get another package, I ate them all already. I'm going to assume that I'm doing ok, having lost 5lbs already!

Holler at me to take a peek when you have a couple days tracked (since you have just started). Are you in phase 1? If so make sure you check the ingredients on the veggie burgers since many have corn or wheat in them. emoticon

I'm new, and I already share my tracker. If anyone wants to take a peek, they can.

I hope I can get some good habits going and get my health back on the right path.

Try "sweet red peppers"... or something like that. The word "sweet" is the key.

Anyone know how to add red bell peppers to the nutrition tracker? I see green and yellow, but not red.

May not have any difference in calories, etc., just driving me crazy! :)

Thank you! I think I'll try making a veggie soup today that I can add to my salad at lunch. I'm hoping to get my Supercharged book in the mail any day, which should give me some ideas, as well!

Yup! Get those veggies in - 4 1/2 cups of veggies every day! v8 counts as 1/2 cup max. Otherwise it doesn't look too bad. You do have a bit of cheese going on but it looks like it amounts to about 2 servings which some folks can tolerate on phase 1 without stalling out. So just keep an eye on that.

Your page is set on private. I added you as a friend so you must add me and then I can see your tracker (assuming it is public). Dairy - you are allowed 2 cups on phase 1 of lowfat/fatfree milk or plain yogurt. Cheese, ricotta and cottage all fall under protein category versus dairy. The diet cocoa is fine - you are allowed up to 100 calories in "sweets" which that would fall under.

Can someone check out my tracker from today and yesterday? I think I'm going too heavy on the dairy and I'm wondering about the 25 calorie diet hot cocoa that I had for dessert today? Should I have skipped the hot cocoa because I had cocoa powder in my smoothie this morning? Thanks!

Of course we aren't focusing on numbers. You are allowed up to 100 calories per day for "sweets". This would be your sugar free candies, sf jelly/jam/syrups, sf popcicles/ice cream/puddings/jello. Natural sugars occuring in milk/dairy or in fruit do not count.

Another question please. How many grams of sugar should I be limiting myself to?

That's great to hear! I know I was never a breakfast eater (more of a grande quad breve kinda gal) so I was initially amazed to find myself not only eating breakfast but having it to be usually my highest calorie meals. I normally do eggs with tons of veggies and another protein for breakfast every day. It just gives me the right amount of energy since I work out in the morning (do a smoothie before I work out and the breakfast when I get home).

Thanks.
What I find interesting is that #1 I'm not bored - there is an endless list of items and ideas to create something new and tasty to eat and #2 I can't seem to eat more than the 1200-1300 calories - I'm full or satisfied. I love the eggs in the morning they just give me that boost of energy I need and they are filling. The other thing that I have noticed is my energy level is like WAY up there and I would suspect it's because the sugar intake is WAY down. But I'd come home from work and just drop...now I get things done around the house and just feel like a 30 year old instead of a 56 year old. The weight is dropping off consistently each week....this is an incredible lifestyle. I've done WW and while I lost the weight I felt that I was depriving myself - I don't with this diet.

hehe well we don't add in potatoes (unless they are sweet potatoes) and we only do whole grains so any "pasta/cereal/cakes/cookies" would have to be made with whole grain flours and sugar substitutes...

So technically you are doing just fine..lol. When you are in phase 2 (or 1.5) most folks add in a serving of fruit (like berries) and "starch" wise, an occasional serving of whole wheat bread or 1/2 whole wheat pita or a sweet potato is doable. These food groups aren't the enemy - they provide us with some good vitamins, minerals and of course fiber.

As long as you are seeing progress, aren't bored (which does happen) and occasionally getting in a serving of the "starch" (couple times a week), I wouldn't stress. Keep working on those veggies - you are getting closer! emoticon

Kierae,
I have yet to introduce pasta, starch, potatoes, cereal, cakes, cookies or any sweets into my diet. I'm hoping that I'm not hurting myself by doing this, but I'm seeing such progress in the wieght loss that I'm almost afraid to introduce any. What are your thoughts?
