In regards to toxicity in green tea: there are no vitamins or minerals in green tea that can cause toxicity in reasonable amounts of consumption. Toxicity is caused when you consume too many of a vitamin or mineral, but for many essential vitamins and minerals, there is a cut-off point for how much your body will absorb. For example, if you drink six cups of orange juice a day, you won't absorb all of that vitamin C because your body may not need it. It's only when you deplete those stores that your body replenishes. Maybe it's the water of the green tea? And even if it's the green tea itself, I'm sure ten ounces is a very low amount... I'd think it would be more like gallons a day.
But like anything, I suppose, moderation is the key.

I've also heard people say in regards to green tea, a little goes a long way. While it's true that the antioxidants in green tea are beneficial in eliminating free radicals in the body, more than 10oz a day can become toxic. A Biology professor told me this, however, if anyone thinks/knows this is incorrect please feel free to post!

interesting. I'd heard about all the benefits of green tea but not about it being negated by milk. Not that I put milk in green tea... I wonder if it works the same way for soy milk.

I do put milk in chai, but I don't know if chai has all the benefits. It's darn delicious though! mmm... I think I'm going to have some spiced chai now

People tell me they like my profile picture because it makes them laugh

I say, "Thanks! Thats why it's there."

My mom advised my to read an article on that same information.

if it's decaf, then it does count toward your water total. it's the caffeine that negates the effect of the water, actually making your body dehydrated.

My father was forcing me to watch FOX news (He's blocked all the "liberal" channels from our cable, so no CNN) and they had that Dr. Whatshisface. He was talking about tea and milk.
So we all know that green tea has antioxidants and the added benefit of reducing hypertension by relaxing blood vessels.
APPARENTLY, if you put milk in your green tea it negates those benefits. Not that milk isn't good for you, just not at the same time as tea. He said if you drink them separately, it's okay. But not with it. I'm not sure if it also applies to black tea or other kinds of tea. That's something to check into.
I'm not entirely sure I buy it, but I was wondering what you all thought.

PS: There was a note on the Pop! article about green tea having caffeine and being a diuretic so you can't use it for your daily water. However, there is a lot of decaf green tea available that tastes just as good. Does it still not count for your daily water?
