Fishing: Sitting
Yesterday I worked on tile for about 3 hours! I recorded it as Fishing: Sitting; for 2 hours; I didn't really fish for 2 hours! I didn't fish at all!
I cut 18- 13 x 13 tiles down to 12 x 12 tiles with a wet saw. Then I laid the said tiles. Not all 18 though, only 9. I chose fishing because it seemed closer to what the actual calories might have been.
Blessings,

Chores and cleaning your home certainly burns calories. Cleaning your home is a good way to burn calories when you don't do any formal exercising.

I also include chores & list them as heavy cleaning. But thanks for the idea of cutting time in half if it isn't heavy.

I know it burns calories but I don't include my housework.

When I do housework I use "heavy cleaning" but cut the time in 1/2.

Thats right knitting and crocheting does burn calories and it save me from eating because my hands are too busy, so I chew gum instead. Also tapping your feet while reading or doing computer work is a calory burning trick.

Every move I make is considered an effort. If you look back at one of my blogs it shows you how even crocheting can burn calories and how much per hour.

I love my pedometer, I put it on first thing in the morning and take it off when I am in bed. I like having to know how many steps, miles I logged in.

How about stuff like vacuuming the house, or cleaning the garage (lifting, sweeping, etc.) How do you rate those things?

I usually use the 24 min. or 30 min. mile when shopping depending on where I'm shopping and how often I'm stopping.

If you are going through the grocery store, you are probably closer to a 30 minute mile. If you are not stopping at every item that is.

I agree with the pedometer, but get one that also includes calories spent. You enter you weight and it will give you approx. calories burned. They're pretty cheap.

Do you have a pedometer? Many of them record how many miles you've walked, in addition to a number of steps. You could see how far you've traveled in a typical shopping trip, and how much time you spent doing it, and just divide the time by the number of miles (and you can just type the calculation into a google window, so you don't even need a calculator!). I find that if I'm walking at a constant pace, but not trying to walk as aerobically as possible, my pace is typically between 24 and 30 min/mile. (of course, I'm pretty short, so that might have something to do with it--my steps aren't nearly as long!)

Nice job fitting calorie burning into all parts of your life!

I typically walk a 17 minute mile and that's too fast in a store. I think walking in a store is about a 21 minute mile if you don't stop and stay at a pretty good clip.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

I just walked around the grocery store for 40 minutes. I want to say I excersized. How would I know how many calories I burned? How can I post that on my Fitness page? I tried "Walk 13 min/mile" but I don't really know what that means.
