I do suffer from allergies all year round but I need to learn how to breath properly when I run. In through the nose and out throught the mouth. I breath in throught my mouth and I just learnt that is the wrong way to do it. Any other great tips for running please share. I didn't want to start a new post when this one is just a good.

Do you have allergies? I get seasonal allergies in the late winter/early spring here in northern CA, and I get something similar if I am doing any heavy workout without taking an OTC allergy medicine. You might also be mouth-breathing and not realize it, and your body might be coating your throat to compensate for cold winter air or jsut the extra strain. Keep it up though - it's great what you're doing!!!

My husband and I are planning on starting a jogging routine when the time changes at the end of March (actually I've done a very little bit while I'm walking my dog - sshhhh, don't tell him that lol)

I just ran for a solid 4 minutes today while trying not to miss the seabus going home and I made it without gasping to much of air. I still need alot of work in learning how to run and learning how not to let my lunges burn. I am getting there. I might just start to like it.

Hi, I am also new to jogging. I am following Sparks "SPark your way to a 10K" as a guideline. My goal this year is to run my first 5K. I have not experienced the problem you are talking about but I am loving running. emoticon

My brother had to have a hip replaced as he jogged. I am a huge walker as it is how I have lost much of my weight.

Not jogging yet, but am hoping to add it to my exercise routine by summer.

I think it's great that you're doing it!

Hi! I'm new to jogging. I've had a treadmill for a while but have been a walker. Recently I decided to step it up a notch and jog. I've been mentally able to get over that wall that you hit, but I seem to get this phelmy feeling in the back of my throat. I don't mean to sound gross, but I was wondering if this happens to anyone else and what you might do to get past it. I've tried clearing my throat and drinking water, but nothing seems to help.
