Wanna dance? Yes, I miss dancing. As a younger person, I did much in the dancing category. What excellent exercise without trying. I am now getting back into the field with country line dancing. I love country music-it is a blast but I am not very good so far,
My daughter is a dance therapist and she agrees to go for any type of movement. She uses it so much in her therapy and has very good results. So ALL let us keep dancing.

My husband & I dance Salsa. It's such a good workout. We're planning on going out this Saturday, I'm looking forward to burning around 500 calories.

I went to Vegas for the weekend and had a dancing cardio blast! As long as I watch my alcohol intake and dance rather than sitting at the bar, it was the best workout, and I was having so much fun!

I've been doing a Zumba DVD workout for about f-5 months and it is great fun! I can't find a "new" DVD; we bought this from Zumba.com. If you know if a different one, please let me know. I desperately want something a bit different because I get bored easily. I'm doing a country line dancing class one night a week, and I have DVD's for dancing with the stars and belly dancing. I like Zumba best, but add in the others to break up the routine and use different muscle sets.

I'm constantly dancing at home and it's definitely helping. My most recent new DVD is an attempt to learn Bollywood style dance. I'm not really terribly coordinated but I'm having a great time laughing thru a workout - and hoping these moves will start to do a number on my waistline, they sure feel like they should.

Have fun and keep moving to whatever makes you smile.

I use ballroom dancing to supplement my aerobics. Some times we sweat up a storm and other times not so much. So I dont rely on it for all my activities.

I love my Hip Hop Abs dvds. I really want to try Zumba, too. They only offer it at a time I'm at work right now, though. I may work through lunch one day & try to make the class. I've heard so much about it. Even though I've never been a dancer or even taken dance classes, I still love it & think it's a GREAT way to exercise!

Yeh....Art and I tape it and then pick out a few to add to our "repertoire". Works out great! We even put it on "slowmo" to really get the steps down. emoticon
PS....That's right. There other things besides running. I have never ran to lose weight.....ever.

I was thinking about dancing along with "Single Ladies" too. It looks like Beyonce works every muscle she has. One thing is for sure, I would have to do when my sons (ages 11 and 17)aren't home -they would think their mom has totally lost her mind.

Awe, thanks Mary Ann. It's been so long, I actually don't remember them that well. I'm sure if I looked it up though it would all come back to me. The elliptical is exactly why I keep my gym membership because I can't run all the time, I used to be a runner but have injured my right ankle many times of the years and it bothers me a lot so I have to stop. But I am finding so many other options that will help me loose the weight. Thanks for being my Cheerleader! :)

Remember all the old floor exercises ?? Those are all pilates moves.....I do a lot of those and also crunches.....with the precise moves of a dance student. So many things you can do without going to a gym, hiring a private trainer or spending money on anything. But I do do light weights and work out on my home elliptical 5 days a week. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! YOU HAVE YOUTH ON YOUR SIDE.....now you just have to CRANK IT UP, GIRL!!!! I'll be your cheerleader!!!! XXOO Mary Ann emoticon

WOW Mary Ann, you look fabulous!!!! You have truly inspired me to get back into dance, I have wanted to for many years but never did it. I originally stopped dancing when I went into the six grade to try out for cheerleader, well I didn't make it and I was a year behind in dancing and my mom couldn't afford more private lessons for me to get back up to speed, so that was the last of my dancing. Thanks for the motivation, I want to install a ballet bar in my house now! :)
Take care,
Natalie

Hi Natalie, Beautiful name....and also my daughters'! I have actually danced since I was 6 and will tell you that it has been my "rock" all these years. You can do it any time and it doesn't cost a thing. Ballet bar exercises have been a staple....and has helped form me in many ways. Posture...strength and endurance...and a flat stomach! If you go to my page, you will see that I have danced many dances for over 55 years! I'M 61 and STILL dancin'. No dvd's, no videos, no gyms....just me, music and my body. Wishing you every success....With hard work, self-control and determination, you will get there! XXOO Mary Ann

I would love to do a live class but can't swing the additional costs right now. I have a membership to LA Fitness but the one I go to does not offer the class. :( I will definitely be checking out some videos on YouTube and probably buy a dvd though. Looking at it now. :)

You could use some youtube videos, and there are DVDs out that you can get from ebay, amazon, or zumba.com. if you can swing it, however, i would recommend live classes. they are growing everywhere like crazy. Go to www.zumba.com to find an instructor or find classes. It SO MUCH BETTER in live class. But grab what you can, it tones the body if you work the program!

With Zumba I have lost all the weight in my ticker (over 30 lbs.) and gone from a size 16 to a 10, and that's just since December 08.

Hey NTRISDALE! Dancing is a GREAT way to get in shape! I have used different forms of belly dancing in the past and its totally fun. Tomorrow, I am going to start a program called Hip Hop Abs that is REALLY fun! If you enjoy dancing, its a great way to get moving and not "feel" like you're working out. There's lots of DVDs out there that can get you dancing too - you may want to look into Hip Hop Abs, Core Rhythms (they have like 4 different sets), and the 10 Mins Solutions series has lots of dancing ones too.

Lots of people dance around the house cleaning or with the kids to burn calories. Some on our team do a dance called Zumba, and there are some posts about it. So the answer is yes.. I'm sure we will see good response to your questions. I want to hear more about this also! Welcome to the team and best of luck!

Hi everyone, I am new to this team. I have recently decided that I want to start using some dance moves as a way to help me stay motivated and mix up my work out routines. I'm thinking of using Beyonce's "Single Ladies" music video to learn the dance moves she choreographed in the video and at the same time burn off some calories. I was in dance for 8 years when I was younger and love to dance still. My question to all of you is this, have any of you used this type of workout routine (dancing) as a way to loose weight? If so, what did you do and was it effective??
Thanks,
Natalie
