Hi, Julie. Thanks for the words of advice. I think the celery and peanut butter (2Tbsp) is a better combination and I may schedule it for my night snack. Since I posted last, I have been doing better sticking to the sparkpeople diet. I'm finding out that bread and I don't get along and I need to cut it down as much as possible in my diet. My blood sugar seems to rise after eating it and I'm hungry soon after. Yesterday, I did not have any bread and I had high protein snacks like nuts (2Tbsp), etc. and I did rather well.

As for water, I try to drink as much as I can because one is suppose to drink a lot of water with Metformin (I heard). Try drinking water with all your meals in a large glass with ice/or without. Drink a large glass (3cups) when you get up and also before you go to bed (if you don't have a problem with getting up for the bathroom at night). When we are watching tv in the evening or if I'm reading, I will sip on a large glass of water with ice. If you don't like the taste of water (and some people don't) you could use flavored water. I don't have a problem with water and I am trying to get off Coke zero. Hope this helps.

Congrats on losing 100 lbs! You are an inspiration! emoticon

My husband was just diagnosed, so I am just learning. But, I would think that peanut butter is an ok snack. So what if you put it on celery instead? Just don't overload the celery. I also have a roblem with nighttime snacking. I wish I had the answer. What works best for me is staying busy, or planning a good snack. Also, what do you drink at night? I always drink more in the daytime, so I need to make the effort to drink more water at night.
Good luck

Hi..... I'm new to the boards and diabetes -- just diagnosed the end of February 2013. The doctor said it was pre-diabetes, but my bs numbers are in the diabetic range I understand. Either way, I'm having problems. I weigh 326 -- losing 15 lbs since that appointment in February. My goal is 150, since I am 58 and don't expect to weigh what I did in high school.

I've been able to follow the diabetes management program on Sparkpeople, but I have problems at night, after dinner with overeating. The usual culprits are peanut butter and crackers or bread. So my bs, even though it is pretty good throughout the day, skyrockets at night, even with Metformin at dinner. I think the only thing to do is throw out the peanut butter, but being a vegetarian it has become a protein source for me. Does anyone else have a problem with overeating? Should I schedule snacks at night?

During the day, I am happy with smaller amounts than I'm used to eating. It's just in the evening where I have the problem. I think I can distract myself during the day better. I've failed every weight loss program emoticon and don't want to fail this one especially because my health/life depends on it. Any suggestions? Need a little encouragement.
