Everyone is doing awesome! I'm so proud of each of you and thank you for sharing your stories. I did some bloodwork and my tests came back in the diabetic range so I am doing my best to lower my numbers by changing my diet, weight loss and exercise and then in 3 months I will go rerun blood work and if not in normal range will go to Dr. for meds. Just hate to get on meds if I can lower it without via exercise and diet. You are all giving me great hope. Thanks. This first week alone, I've lost 3 lbs and my FBS is already much lower. I was diagnosised the first of October 2010 with a blood sugar of 162, I have now lost 35 pounds (as of this morning) and my sugar ranges anywhere from 85 to 116 depending on what time I ate the night before.

After the initial shock, the first thing I did was give up the thing I enjoyed the most, sweet tea. I used to drink sweet tea whenever I was out (which was often) and I would drink a lot of it. It was not uncommon for me to drink an entire pitcher of sweet tea by myself. I suppose it shouldn't have been a surprise that my FBS was 401 on October 1 when I was diagnose.
After that, it was just a matter of educating myself of what I should eat and how much. The Diabetes Center at my local hospital really helped me with that and now I am doing really well with normal FBS of about 110 each morning.
So, to all my fellow newly diagnosed diabetics, know that it is possible and for me, it really didn't take too much.

AMAZING! By all means, share! You and I were diagnosed about the same time and I just had my second A1c. I went from 7.8 to 6.5 which was due largely to the metformin.
I focused mostly on my meds and checking blood levels the first three months. I have to take things one step at a time. The next round I'll be focusing more on diet and exercise. ALWAYS working on the stress levels. :)
