"in the BFFM he says that drinking is good if your in a hurry but its better to eat a piece of chicken or lean meat then it is to use a meal replacement drink."
I'm thinking you're getting too hung up on the details. There's a lot of options (ie protien powder vs whole food). Obviously some of them are better than others, but if you're in a pinch, or needing extra supplementation, then powders are the way to go.
I think Tom was alluding to not using it as your sole source of protein all the time.
As for the bars - never tried to make them, but I have made Tom's Pumpkin Protien Pancakes... num!
I also like Cliff Builder bars, in a pinch/when traveling, because I can identify all the ingredients in them. Peanut butter is my fave. ;) It's got a higher carb count, but I'd rather have that than extra fillers/artifical ingredients.

I think what he is talking about is if I just drank my lunch and dinner- you know, instead of taking the time to eat the lean protein and the veggies- right?
I am doing good today- I have had my oatmeal with my protein powder- for snack I had a protein with water and 1/2 cup cottage cheese (NOT GOOD- but I ate it anyway) and I had a stir fry with chicken and brown rice for lunch. I forgot to eat another snack- but- and now for dinner I am having broccoli from my garden, with turkey breast, and a small yam...
I am still learning- and I am so trying to not make this more complicated then it needs to be! :) I have a pretty good plan for the week- so as long as I follow the eating and just be consistant... I know I will see some results!! :) I am excited! I am on chapter 11 by the way! :) reading all about carbs :)
If I have any more q's I will ask- believe that! I hope you all dont mind !!
That's what I eat almost every morning! Oatmeal, whey, and berries! YUM! I think if you are using it 1-2 x per day, that should be fine. And I hear many people who make their own protein bars too. If only I had enough time....
Yes, it's safe! Why wouldn't it be? Protein powder is no different then eating a peice of chicken... it's just a LOT more convenient sometimes! (However, you must remember that protein powders are typically derived from whey (dairy) and should also be considered a "processed food" in my humble opinion!)
PS... why does it matter if it's considered a food or a drink? Anyways, drinks are food too!
So I was reading last night how Tom says real food- try to stay away from just drinking the protein powder- which I can understand- but I use my powder to add to my oatmeal- is that safe... I am eating it with a food substance...
If you add a fruit to it- does that make it a food- or is it still a "drink"?
