I indulged over the Christmas holiday weekend, but not TOO badly. I actually was surprised that my weight didn't go up very much. I will not drink today and I'm hoping to avoid it until New Year's Eve. I don't see having NYE without some champagne. I wish I could substitute the sparkling apple cider, but I don't think that will happen.

Yes, I probably will tonight. I reached my goal weight, 25 pounds lost since the middle of July and I am going to "celebrate".........................maybe. Maybe not? Right now I don't even feel like having a glass of wine.........I must be coming down with something..........what's wrong with me? LOL. I've already gone two days in a row without alcohol. Maybe it's getting easier as the days go by!
I sure hope so!! This is a great feeling!

Hey, it's been a rough week, was on call for the last 7 days......nothing with alcohol all week. I went off call this morning, so tonight I am indulging! Gin and tonic, having my second one now! Tomorrow is work Christmas party, may have a glass of wine or two but definately not much cuz it's work people, ya know!
Don't know what the rest of the weekend will bring.... emoticon

I know just how you feel! I took a look at this group today. It's not very active but we can make it so. I am having a couple of glasses of wine tonight. I will keep it to 2. Let me know how things are going for you!

I am grateful I found this spark team! This is one thing I am struggling with these days. I should cut back but I don't really wanna...................... I like wine too much. I know if I cut back a lot then those last few pounds would come off. I need to plan an AF day and really get through it with no excuses.
I know and acknowledge I sleep better without wine and my outlook the next morning is fresh and upbeat. Why oh why can't I not drink for a few days in a row? That will be my goal next week: Monday and Tuesday: no wine.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for your support here.

Maybe, but I have made a step in the right direction. I have taken to drinking wine out of a smaller wine tasting size glass. So my glass of wine is more like 3 oz. rather than the 6-8 that I would pour into my stemless glasses.

I will not drink today. I drank last night. Had six beers, 2 with no dinner. After 4 beers, I had a burrito. I have not had a burrito in about 1 1/2 years. Then had 2 more beers. My stomach is NOT HAPPY with me today at all. Back on track today.

As I am at work (3:30pm) I am not drinking either. But I am thinking about a whiskey and 7UP tonight as a reward for working out. BUT, I suppose that means I will have to actually go work out...

Well, it is only 10:46am and I am at work so no I haven't but I was thinking about having a glass of wine with dinner. The real issue is that my wine glasses make a "glass" of wine look so puny so I end up having about 8 oz. instead. I really should just use the small glasses that we got at a wine tasting but I don't reach for those first.

I wish I was more of a numbers person! You are stronger than me, my friend. After working hard all day, running from OR to OR, I think about not drinking, but then talk myself into it. I tell myself, "You've worked so hard, you deserve a drink." Ten beers later, I've realized I haven't made my kids lunches yet, and it's time for us to go to bed. I haven't played with them, just drinking while I make dinner, drink while I eat, and sit my butt infront of the TV with a few more beers!

Actually, telling you this is making me realize how much of a loof I am. I need to stop the drinking and spent more time with my kids. Maybe then loosing the 20lbs won't be so easy!

I just made a cranberry vodka for myself. I even measured the ingredients for once instead of eyeballing :) I have a tendency to make triples instead of doubles and I didn't know that until yesterday. I have been logging everything I eat or drink in the nutrition tracker and biking so much in the evenings lately that I haven't been drinking as much. I'm a numbers person, so when I see each beer/cocktail adding up, I tend to think about it more before I have more.

I found getting off my couch can be troublesome, but after I make that first step and go bike 10 or 20 miles listening to good music I get rid of a lot more stress than when I watch TV. Today I went 22 miles with a friend. I didn't feel guilty at all when I just logged in my measured drink, and I'm going to drink it in a bubble bath because today I earned it. I doubt I'll have a second one because I don't want to have to log in another set of calories after burning so many tonight!

Going out with two friends to enjoy drinks at one of Chicago's (allegedly) better lounges. Really that's the best way to drink.

I joined this team a while ago but never really read any of the topics. I really need to drink less frequently and I decided to, on my own without announcing it, go a night without making a drink or 5 and plopping on the couch. It's my routine. Its how I wind down at the end of a long day. I was successful and it was not as hard as I thought. I went to bed earlier and woke up refreshed. I had two AFD's in a row and felt good. Just knowing I can made me feel better. I went to Hibachi with a girlfriend last night and didnt feel the need to be strict on myself. I had a couple drinks. I have no desire to give it up but a strong desire to cut back and shed some weight! emoticon

every evening when my husband goes to work, it is almost too easy for me to walk to the fridge and grab a beer....or 5. i finally came to the conclusion that i am not in control enough to keep alcohol in the house, even, until i get a handle on my drinking. we will occasionally buy a bottle of wine or a 6 pack of beer for a treat. but other than that, i cannot have it around or i will drink it!

No I didn't...an No I won't! I'm getting a handle on it. I have come to the conclusion that booze has helped make me FAT!! I LOVE to have a cocktails..but I will never get a handle on my weight lose if I don't just leave it alone all together. The calories in the drinks, wine, and beer are just not worth it for me. An the booze munchies, and late night eating,...Good grief!! I have to just abstain all together..Unfortunately...Cheers! emoticon

Yes to alcohol. No to beer.

I joined this team today and have no desire to quit drinking but a strong need to drink less. I've been gaining weight lately and I know it is partly because an injury has kept me from running as much as I usually run but mostly due to
emoticon

And when I switch to bourbon if I am not careful I tend to give in to eating too much.

I'm hoping joining this team will help.

What about yoga or stretching? Just 10 minutes or so. Or, one thing that is helping me during the week is getting up early to workout. I can only do that if I get to bed early without drinking.

I had an argument with myself last night. I really wanted a glass of wine while I was cooking dinner, but I knew I wouldn't stop at just one, and I had to do my workout that evening. So I didn't have the wine. But I still want it really bad. I have two parties to go to this weekend. I know I will be drinking at one of them.

Even though it is sometimes just a couple of glasses in the evening, there still is a great difference when waking up in the morning. Yesterday was AF - easy - together with somebody that did not suggest it. Drank sparkling water and orange juice - and did not miss the wine at all. Why is it that other days the cravings are so strong? Strange and interesting mechanisms kicking in here.
Anyway - great morning - off to a full day teaching with clear head and enough sleep

Much too much stress here lately - and too much wine. Almost a bottle yesterday. OK - today I am in another country - and therefore without my drinking pall - so maybe I can break the habit for the next couple of days?
I plan to do so.

Wow. Eight days is good streak. I normally go around 5 or 6. I broke my one bottle rule by one glass, BUT, I did go to my workout on Sunday morning without a hangover. (3 glasses Saturday and 2 on Sunday.)

I have been doing very well with not drinking. I went a whole 8 days, but then I splurged and drank like 10 beers. Mother is coming into town this Thursday and were having a birthday party for her and then were taking her to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. I know there will be a good three days of drinking involved. After she leaves I am going to try to go 30 days without a drink. Lets see if I can do it. I never knew this could be so hard.

I'm trying to limit my drinking to weekends, and only 1 bottle of wine per week, however, this is only my first week on the program... I'm trying to abstain at least until I get weighed on Saturday.

This month, I made a point to sign up for some exercise classes on Sunday mornings so that I won't drink so much on Saturday night.

I am having the same issue. I can hold off Sunday through Thursday, but once Friday hits its all over with. My suggestion is to plan something on Friday and Saturday where you cant drink alcohol. Thats rare though. Its hard to refrain from going to the store. Fridays and Saturdays are our break days to relax and unwind. We conciously associate that with alcohol. Its hard to break that cycle. We have to get ourselves into a new patter. Fridays and Saturdays should be the days that we go and do something new and spontaneous without alcohol. I have wanted to go hiking for some time now. I would also like to go to the Detroit museum. If you find a solution let me know, because I havent.

I don't don't generally drink during the week any more. But weekends are still a challenge. If I buy it, I drink it - whether it's 750 ml or a 3L flask.

I've switched to other non-alcohol drinks during the week - like club soda with lemons - which I really enjoy. But I still can't seem to shake my weekend "indulgences".

Anyone got any suggestions? Extra exercise? I already do 30-60 min. per day.

Last night with my SO for 8 days, so we'll be enjoying a bottle of Chardonnay. Then I'll probably take most of the week off. Seeing my extended family next weekend - these events always go better with lots of alcohol!

I have the same issue. I never used to have high blood pressure. My drinking has taken a toll on my health. I hate alcohol, yet I love it so much. I can actually feel my blood pressure changes. My face is always hot and read and I now get frequent headaches. Why do we continue to abuse ourselves? Its so hard to say no sometimes. I am just beginning to admit my faults and addictions to myself. Everthing is coming to the surface and its scary and intimidating, because while I notice what I need to do to get healthy, I also notice how little will power I have and how strong a hold alcohol has on my lifestyle and daily decisions.

No, I won't be drinking tonight or in the foreseeable future. My blood pressure is currently up substantially and the only significant factor in my lifestyle that I can see id my bad drinking habits of late. So I have to stop.

I've been thinking about having a nice cocktail tonight but I have been also trying to talk myself out of it. Anyone else having an internal argument over this tonight?

peace,
moonlit
