75% or more of my 100 or so books on the bedside TBR shelves fall outside the date parameters.

I have posted all my readings in the month to month forums.

If you want to see my forays and get a glimpse of the history of planned and unplanned reads that I have - take a look at my GoodReads profile:

Rick Riordan's books are great. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. He also wrote The Kane Chronicles, based on Egyptian mythology.

My TBR list is a lot longer than 12 novels. It's so big that it is taking over my room. ...I guess this is what happens when you have a super-good used book store and a free-book bin at the local recycling center.

1. We Should Never Meet by Aimee Phan
2. Amrita by Banana Yoshimoto
3. Life of Pi by Yan Martin
4. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
5. She's come Undone by Wally Lamb
6. The Karamazov Brothers by Fyoder Dostoyevsky
7. Kokoro by Natsume Souseki
8. The Godfather by Mario Puzo
9. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
10. House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
11. Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami
12. The Private Patient by P.D. James

Alternates:
The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir A. I. Conan Doyle (I think this doesn't have the short stories in it)
Tangled Skein by Sir A. I. Conan Doyle (if I can find it)
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins -- READ
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Moby Dick by Herman Melville
And in other words, I need to finish reading Alice Sebold's Lucky and Susan Gilman's Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Skirt. I started them over two years ago and never finished either....

Good Morning Lakendal,

You can update the post you created with your original list or you can re-post with an updated list of what you read. Some members have just added "READ" next to the title and others have included a emoticon rating.

In looking over the 2011 lists, a majority of the lists were not updated with a 'read' status. Whatever you choose to do is what works for you.

I have 25 books in my TBR pile that are newer than the parameters set in this challenge.
There are 12 books that fit the category but I have had them sitting there for a few years at least. I often think I will read them and then donate them to the library. But, with so much new material advertised on my Mystery Book Guild and Amazon and BOMC2 I wonder if I will ever go back to them. At any rate here they are:

Aftermath - Charels Sheffield
Burnt Bones - Michael Slade (read)
Night Whispers - Judith McNaught
High Stakes - Jane Silverwood (read)
The Last Exile - E. V. Seymore
The Tomb - F. Paul Wilson
Breach of Promise - Perri O'Shaughnessy
Hostile Takeover - David Sirota
The Regulators - Richard Bachman
Mr. X - Peter Straub (read)
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide - Douglas Adams
The Owner's Manual - Michael F. Roizem and Mehmet C. Oz.

Alternates: not in pile but will be reading:
The Maze - Catherine Coulter (read)
The Target - Catherine Coulter (read)

Thanks to MBECKER1975 for starting the 2011 challenge, we're going to continue the tradition. The rules are the same as last year, although I changed the published date from 2009 to 2010 for the books to be considered.

REVISION: If you create your list 'x' months from January, you can create a book list that equals the remaining months in the year, plus the 2 alternates. This should make it easier to finish your list by the end of the year since your list is pretty much a book to read a month.

*******"Hi all! I thought I would start a little challenge on here since I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a TON of TBR (to be read) books just waiting to be opened. The object of this challenge is to help us clear off our massive TBR shelves. The "rules" are simple:

1. Pick 12 books that have been on your TBR list for over a year. These can be twelve books you've had on your shelf or twelve books you've been wanting to read for at least a year.

2. Pick two additional TBRs as alternates, in case a couple of your TBRs are unreadable.

3. List your 12 books + 2 alternates.

4. "Cross off" the books as you read them.

The only real restriction is that the book must have been published 2010 or earlier. It can't have been on your TBR for over a year if the book itself is less than a year old.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone wants to read in 2012 and maybe sparking a few literary discussions as well!"
