I used to read very fast but after chemotherapy I couldn't concentrate on books. In the past 4 years, I've only started reading again and it is at a much slower pace but at least I am able to read again!

I usually read slow, unless I've found a book that is really exciting than I read faster than normal.

I tend to read medium. I'm not real fast and not real slow. It really depends on what I'm reading and what I want to get from the book. I really do enjoy reading and try to read as much as possible. Most of my reading is done on week-ends.

I am a fast reader, but I don't absorb a lot . . . so if it's something I really need to know, I read it several times and make notes to help it stick in my mind.

Usually I read relatively slowly, not sure just how slow. I like to take the time to ponder images, phrases, or ideas the books dredge up from the deeps.

If I HAVE TO read something, and I'm not that interested in it, I will try to speed-read each line in 2-3 chunks of words at a time.

I'd say I read fast. Always when I had to share my textbook with somebody in school, I was the first to finish the page ;).

Why did I stand up? Wasn't I waiting for tomorrow?

I read very slowly because my concentration is shot. It's very frustrating, but the alternative is not to read at all.

I tend to be a very quick reader, but that means that I normally scan everything. If I really need to pay attention, then I do slow down. The good news is that because I scan stuff, I don't tend to remember it, so I can re-read books without too much memory of what the plot is.

Yep, it depends. I'm trying to read Reamde by Neil Stephenson and I'm lucky if I can read 10 pages a night. I like it, it just requires me to pay attention and think, which often leads me to fall asleep!

When I read on the computer it is slow. If I read in bed it is faster (if I don't fall asleep). I manage an audio book every night or two.

I agree, it does depend on the book. I read about 1 book a day. various types. However if I was still in school, studying for classwork, it would definatly take me longer to absorb the material.

Speed-wise, I can read pretty fast depending on the material. Some books that rest your brain, can be done real fast. However, like most people, if I'm reading heavier literature that requires more thought, or maybe is more descriptive and wordy instead of fast-paced action and short sentences, then I will read slower. I'm afraid, however, it takes me forever to read anything, as it just doesn't seem like I have the time to put into just sitting down and reading that I used to.

I'm like most people it depends on what I'm reading. If it's fluff like Janet Evanovich I read fast. Someone like Kathy Reiches I usually have to think about what I'm reading so it takes me a little longer.

It depends on what you are reading.
Some good books are like fine wine, you savor each passage; some lightly written books are like "light" beer, finish them quickly and move on to the next one.
Also some books have short chapters and an empty page before the next chapter.
This is probably padding by the author to get to a requisite number of pages for his book.

It depends on what I'm reading but I do about 200-250 words per minute. That's fast, I think?

My speed depends on the type of book I am reading. If I am reading for pleasure I usually read pretty quickly. If I am reading to learn something I am much slower and often have to reread what I have read 1 or 2 times. Good luck.

I don't think I read all that slow but I am not fast... average. I think it would take me longer than 6-7 hours to read 400 pages but I am not sure.

I've never timed myself, but I do think I get through books faster than my friends do, even though I'm not skipping words and not trying to read fast on purpose.

I read at about the same pace as you...I consider myself a slower reader b/c I have to read each word...I'm not a "skimmer". My husband can read a book very quickly & I think he can do it without reading every word.

I would suggest trying to read as much as you can before book club. You might be surprised how much you really get out of it! AND...if it sounds interesting when you discuss, you can finish it after!

Good luck!

I've never timed my reading. My speed depends on the subject matter.

Currently I am reading much slower than usual because of eye problems.

I have to finish a whole book for bookclub today and I am wondering how long it will take me which makes me wonder how long it would take other people.

So .... just curious ..... how long would it take you to read a 400 page book?

I read about 1 page a minute so this book is going to take me 6- 7 hours.

Which I don't have .... sigh..... so far it's a good book but I really wish I could finish it before book club.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
