Pledge to eat 1 healthy sweet, such as raisins, 1 hour before taking a walk or exercising.
How to do it
About an hour before you plan to exercise - whether it's going for a walk, working out, or taking an exercise class - eat a naturally sweet snack that's high in carbohydrates. Raisins, dried fruit, trail mix, and fruit yogurt are all good choices that are easy to find and eat.
Why it matters
The carbohydrates you eat an hour before you exercise will become the energy you burn as you move! Think of your snack as a shot of fuel right to your muscles. And by preparing your body in this way, you minimize the chances of feeling sapped of strength when you're done. Instead, you should find yourself feeling energized for the rest of your day.
Fun Fact
Despite having a high concentration of sugars - about 70% by weight - raisins actually fight bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease because of the high level of phytochemicals they contain.
