I couldn't believe how dark it was this morning! I was talking with the coffee gal and even asked how her night was going...purely by accident...it wa 7:30 a.m.

I have a friend who has his lights hooked up with a computer system so that the lights in his house gradually come on...they get brighter as it gets closer to time to get up. A couple of years ago when he got the program it was $300. I thought about doing it. Should look into it again.

Hi MaryJO - I knew you had to be an Oregonian. Same lighthouse. Anyway, it is nice here on the coast this weekend. We have almost finished painting our house which desperately needed it. Just need a couple of more days of sunshine.

I'll be in Portland for the weekend at a photo workshop. I'm really looking forward to that and some shopping.

I have an east facing bedroom. I have the top 5" of the window uncovered (no one can see in from that point), and cover the lower part of the window. The "natural" light is wonderful. "natural", because I have street lights the peek through also.

I love my morninglight..
Yes they can be pricey.. You can also get a timer and a grow lamp. Have it click on a half an hour before you get up.

we have used that method as well and it is just as good.

we got the simulator for our daughter. She has seasonal depressions.. but, she hates it.. lol

I think she would rather sleep.. she is a teen.. lol

I love this sunny weather...

Are the dawn simulators expensive? I think we need one for my husband, especially...although once he sees the real weather, he might stay down. LOL

A dawn similator is just what it sounds like.. It is a light that gradually gets brighter.. to simulate the rising of the sun.

We also have used grow lights on a timer.. where it clicks on 45 minutes before we have to get up so it looks like the sun has been shining...

little tricks to deal with the dark..

Its starting to get dark earlier here. all I want to do is crawl in bed and sleep when it is dark. When I work nights I have to do that standing up because theres no beds at work except for the nurses station. LOL.

What is a "Dawn Simulator?" Sounds great! I really love the long warm days of summer, but I have a new house and I'm trying to learn to appreciate the earth's cycles again (I used to live on a farm, then went to an apartment!)

I like it cooler, but not gray and rainy. The one who is really affected negatively is my husband...he gets downright hard to live with. He was born and raised in Medford and I think he will never outgrow the desire for warmer weather.

Yesterday morning, my husband got up before I did and made me coffee. This is extremely rare-I normally have to draaaaag him out of bed. I asked him why he was up so early and so damned cheerful. He said, "I think it's this weather. I'm SO happy that it's cooler now". I thought it was funny because so many people I talk to say that cooler fall and winter weather makes them lethargic and sometimes even downright depressed. Personally, I love the cooler weather, but I don't think it really affects my mood or overall disposition. What about you?
